"Alpha, I think we've found the source of the mysterious disease that has afflicted our pack," my brother, Beta Drake said. I set aside the documents I was reviewing and gave him my full attention. "Really? Go on," I asked. "My men and I embarked on an investigation like you suggested and we discovered that there is an unauthorized presence in our pack who we believe is responsible for the outbreak," he answered. I leaned forward, my interest piqued. "Who is this person and why are they linked to this outbreak?" I asked. Beta Drake's expression turned somber, causing me to worry. "The person in question is a witch, Alpha." My eyes narrowed and I could feel the rage coursing through my veins. "How did a witch manage to infiltrate our pack without being detected? How did this happen?" I asked, my blood boiling. "I'm not sure about that, Alpha. She probably got help from the inside but I doubt anyone would be foolish enough to risk their lives by aiding a witch," Beta Drake said. "Bring her to me," I said to Beta Drake. He nodded and turned to leave but before he could reach the door, I stopped him. "Do you know how long she has been hiding in our pack?" I asked him. "Not really but from what my men and I gathered, Ravenna has been here for a couple of months, let's say two months," he replied. Thinking about what he said, I realized that the outbreak had indeed begun around the time of Ravenna's arrival. My long-laid conviction has been proven right; witches bring misfortunes and their presence spells trouble. "Okay then, why don't you bring Ravenna in? It is high time Ravenna and I had a...talk," I said, my voice dripping with malice. Beta Drake nodded and finally left the room without a second interruption. I sat back in my seat with clenched jaws, trying to suppress my anger. The mere mention of witches could start up a fire in my heart. For years, I've resented them, which makes me eliminate them whenever I had the chance. But the fact that one had been hiding under my nose for so long without my knowledge made me question my effectiveness as the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack. As I sat there seething in anger, I heard the door open and I looked up to see Beta Drake escorting a woman into the room. She was tall, with long grey hair and piercing grey eyes that seemed to bore into my very soul. "Ravenna..." I said getting up from my seat. "Alpha Kaidon," she replied with a smile on her face. How could she smile despite knowing what her fate would be eventually? I thought "I can see you're the reason behind the strange disease in my pack," I said. "Yes I am. I'm simply getting revenge for the death of my people whom you've cruelly murdered in cold blood in the last years," she said, the smile still etched on her face. "And I must say, it was quite fun to watch your people suffer and die just the way my people did," she added with a smile before I could even speak. Her smile only fueled my anger and I knew she knew that. "You'll pay for what you've done. I promise," I said, snarling. For a minute, she was quiet, as if she was scared of what I was going to do to her. But to my surprise, she suddenly burst into laughter, causing me and Beta Drake to exchange glances in confusion. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots, Alpha. I'm scared of what you're going to do to me," she said, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh you should be, Ravenna. You should be cause I'll make you regret ever stepping your foot into my pack," I said, clenching my fists. Without another word said, I ordered Beta Drake to take her back to the dungeon until I decided her fate. Later that evening, I held a meeting with the elders of the pack and we decided on a date for the execution. "We shouldn't permit the witch to see the rise of another day. Why don't we execute her tomorrow afternoon?" Elder Loin said. All the other elders nodded on agreement and I had no choice but to agree with them. I had the guards set up the execution stand. She was to be executed by hanging and then her body was to be cremated. I ordered the Messengers to go around and spread the news about the execution so that everyone would witness the execution of the pack's greatest enemy. The afternoon of the following day, all of those who had not been afflicted with the disease yet, attended the execution. Ravenna was brought out from the dungeon and was placed on the execution stand. "Everyone, we're all gathered today to witness the execution of Moonstone's worst enemy, a witch. We all know how witches bring misfortunes and should not be spared. Before we execute her, let's find out if she has any last words," I said before turning to face Ravenna with a smirk on my face. "Of course, I have something to say. In fact, I have a gift for you, Alpha Kaidon," she said. Without waiting for me to ask, she continued, "A curse actually, one that would change your life forever." "Oh please, you think a curse can harm me. I am the strongest wolf and the Alpha of the pack," I said, my voice scornful. A smile broke out on her face as she said, "You'll meet your demise in the hands of your fated mate. You'll both fall deeply in love but she will strike without knowing your true bond. Only after eliminating you will she realize that you were meant to be." As she spoke, the skies darkened and a loud thunderclap shook the air.I hated him. I hated Drake with every bone in my body. People always said hate is a strong word, but they didn’t know what it meant to lose something dear… no, someone… because of a lying bastard who smiled at you and stabbed you from behind. It wasn’t even about Lila anymore. Well, it was. But this wasn’t just about her. This was about everything Drake had ever taken from me. He thought I had forgotten; that I had moved on. That I had buried the past like it never existed. But I didn’t; I couldn’t. It was the one thing that haunted me every damn night. You know, back then, I was just a guy in the pack who wanted peace, a little love, and a chance to build something for myself. I didn’t even want to be close to the Alpha family. I just wanted to stay on my lane. Then I met her. Toone. God, she was… something. You know those kind of women that walk into a room and the whole place just pauses? That was her. She didn’t even try to be noticed. She wasn’t loud or dramatic. She jus
I should have killed her that night. The blade was in my hand, the moon was high, and the forest was quiet.. too damn quiet. Lila was tied up like a ragged bundle of bones, staring up at me with those huge green eyes that made it hard to breathe. She looked half-dead already, but that wasn’t what made me stop. It was… something else. Something I couldn’t explain. She didn’t beg. Didn’t cry. Didn’t even flinch. She just… looked at me like she had already accepted her fate and was waiting for me to put her out of her misery… Because it was. And in that moment, everything inside me stalled. Like I wasn’t meant to do it; like the moon itself was holding my hand back. So I didn’t do it. I couldn’t… even if I wanted to. And that haunted me more than I liked to admit, really. So, that night, after lying to Drake… telling him I had buried her in a place no one would ever be able to trace… I went back to the cabin. She was still there, barely breathing, and my head was a mess. I wa
I stormed into my chamber, the rage in me burning hotter than a thousand suns. I didn’t even try to hide it. Let them all see the fire in my eyes. Let them feel it. Let them taste the betrayal on my tongue. Lila. That girl… that little, quiet girl. I treated her better than anyone in this cursed pack. I gave her a place in my home, trusted her with things I wouldn’t even trust my Beta with. And this is how she repays me? I slammed my fist against the wall, and the crack that echoed through the room was like thunder. A piece of stone fell to the floor, shattering… just like the respect I had for her. The councilmen flinched, but none of them dared speak. “Bring the warriors in,” I said to the guard standing by the door. My voice was low but sharp. He nodded quickly and left. A moment later, the warriors stepped in… shoulders straight, eyes alert, waiting for orders. I looked at them, all of them, and I saw confusion in their faces. They didn't understand why I had summoned them al
I knew something was going to go wrong the moment I went to the maids' quarters and asked for Sara, only to be told the Alpha had summoned her. My heart dropped to my stomach. “Does anyone know why he did?,” I asked, sounding desperate, even though I tried to keep a calm look. But no one said a word… I guess they were too scared to speak. Summoned her? There was no way that was a coincidence. Not with how tense Kaidon had been acting since he returned. I didn’t need to say another word. I just turned around and walked straight out of there. I knew what this meant. My brother must have found out that Lila was missing… and worse, that she had been meeting someone in secret. I didn’t waste time. I headed straight to Clarkson’s cottage on the far edge of the territory. I didn’t knock when I got there. I pushed the door open. He looked up, already frowning. “He knows,” I said. Clarkson didn’t flinch. He set his cup down. “Who knows what?” “Kaidon knows about Lila's disappearance
I had returned to the pack to so much noise and excitement, you'd think it was the Moon Festival. Warriors lined up at the gates, bowing and welcoming me like I had gone to war and returned victorious. Drums, laughter, cheers… it was all a blur to me. My head was somewhere else. I nodded, waved, gave tight-lipped smiles, but I wasn’t really there. Something was off. Something... or someone. I couldn't place it. I tried to ignore the heaviness in my chest, the pounding in my skull. My wolf paced inside me, restless. Agitated. I told myself it was nothing… that I just needed a hot bath, a quiet evening, and sleep. But even in the bath, the silence screamed. And when I lay down on my bed, eyes closed, all I could see was that faceless wolf from my nightmare. The one that ran instead of attacking. And then... Lila's face flashed. I sat up instantly. No. It couldn't be. I shook the thought away. I was just stressed. Overthinking. That was all. By morning, the feeling hadn't gone;
I turned like a snapping twig when the crunch of footsteps came from behind. Clarkson stiffened beside me. His mouth, which had just been rambling about how Lila’s blood had soaked through the sack, shut instantly. My hand shot to my side, close to my dagger. The figure stepped into the moonlight. It was one of the Alpha’s guards. He looked young. Nervous. Or maybe that was just my own guilt crawling over my skin like ants. I clenched my jaw. “What are you doing here?” I asked, voice sharper than intended. “Did you hear anything just now?,” I quickly added. He blinked rapidly, like he hadn’t expected me to talk first. “Uh—no, Beta. I didn’t hear anything, I swear.” Liar. Or maybe not. But his voice trembled slightly. Clarkson didn’t flinch, didn’t move. He just gave me a brief look. The look we always shared when things needed to stay quiet. I understood it well. It meant: Don’t push this. Not here. I exhaled through my nose and slowly lowered my shoulders. “Then why are you
