Chapter 65

Author: Ada Plus
The pig lay sprawled across the assault boat, mouth open and gasping hard.

Nicole suddenly pulled out a stun baton from her bag. Two sharp squeals, and the pig went limp.

Hughie and Jeremy just stared.

Zeph spoke first. "We need to butcher it somewhere else."

There was no way they could bring it back like this. If anyone saw, it would turn into a problem fast.

Jeremy snapped out of it. "What about that construction site we checked before? No one's around, and it's not too far."

They turned

  • The Apocalypse Survival Manual   Chapter 822

After so long adrift at sea, Sawyer and his crew desperately wanted a place to settle. More than anything, they hoped to find their families and friends and be together again. They still had faith in Yorwyn and trusted that the new settlement would become a home."Could you take the pilot home?" Nicole asked.Sawyer's voice caught. "Of course. It would be an honor."Nicole asked Zeph to go below and bring up the box containing the man's ashes. She also suggested sending the crew off with some food and medicinal herbs. Her storage space produced far more of both than the four of them could ever use. There was no point letting the surplus pile up while Sawyer and his crew struggled to get by.The coordinates were a long way off, and the route would take them through dangerous currents. They needed their strength to make it through the journey. The storage space belonged to Nicole, and Zeph supported her decision. "How much do you wanna give them?"He was glad she brought it up. S

When Ardelon was destroyed in a matter of moments, many of its survivors drifted from one country to another or turned to piracy. They didn't just rob people; they hunted survivors from other nations for food.Of the dozens of Savadian survivors captured just ten days earlier, only a handful remained. The Ardelonian pirates forced them to pretend they were injured and call for help, drawing other survivors aboard so the pirates could kill and eat them.Sawyer kept one detail to himself. Several bodies lay in the hold, all victims who had been lured aboard and murdered that day."Those monsters," he spat. "How could anyone do this?"Sawyer spent years at the military base, sheltered from much of the violence and cruelty beyond its walls. Nothing prepared him for a discovery like this.Nicole shared his anger, but the pirates' physical deformities concerned her more. Something caused those changes, and she needed to know what it was.Zeph frowned. "Could eating mutated sea creatu

It took several minutes to kill the last of the attackers.Meanwhile, a fight broke out aboard the fishing boat, with gunshots ringing out over the water.Nicole couldn't see past the obstructions on deck. The fighting went on for nearly 20 minutes before everything fell quiet.Sawyer leaned over the bow, vomiting. Several minutes passed before he managed to wave at them. His face was pale. "It's over."Several of his crewmates were throwing up, too.Something was wrong. Nicole searched the water for the bodies around the submarine. All the attackers had worn masks, but the current had already swept them away.At Sawyer's order, one of his men brought the fishing boat over and stopped between the two submarines.Nicole and Zeph paddled across in their inflatable raft, fighting the wind and waves, then climbed aboard.Blood and bodies covered the deck. One clear look at the dead sent Nicole to the railing, struggling not to throw up. Her stomach heaved, but nothing came up.Z

If No. 2688 were alone, Nicole would've taken it underwater and into her storage space. With No. 1926 beside them, she couldn't risk revealing that secret unless their lives were on the line.Zeph sent Poppy below while he and Nicole slipped weapons beneath their clothes.Poppy hesitated. "Please be careful. Both of you.""Go keep Cola safe," Zeph told her. "Stay below until I give you the signal."The crew of No. 1926 was armed as well and kept their advanced body armor on.Drawing on his naval training, Sawyer watched the fishing boat closely, judging its speed and how low it rode in the water. As it drew closer, three people stepped out of the cabin, their faces shaded by wide-brimmed hats and scarves. The fisherman waving at them called out, "Savadia."Nicole nearly choked. His face fell when no one seemed to understand, but he kept calling. "Savadia! Savadia!"When Nicole said nothing, Sawyer ventured an awkward "Savadia."The man brightened. Apparently convinced Sawyer

The sun dipped toward the horizon, and darkness crept across the sea.Nicole called across the water. "What are your plans?"After so long underwater, Sawyer and his crew wanted to make the most of the calm weather. They planned to spend the next few days resting on the surface, getting some sun and recovering their strength.Meeting Nicole and Zeph had given them fresh hope. If they kept looking, they were sure they would find more friends and fellow service members. The southern military base was gone, but the Ark Project would go on. Sooner or later, they would find somewhere to call home.Nicole and Zeph exchanged a glance. Since the crew intended to stay nearby, there was time to get to know them better. Sharing the coordinates could wait a couple of days. They had no particular reason to distrust Sawyer or his crew. Still, the men seemed a little too ready to see the good in others.Given the coordinates, they might share them freely, convinced that humanity's survival d

Sawyer stopped himself before he could put those fears into words."I'm pretty sure I saw Beatrice. She trained with our group, and we were all at the deepwater dock. These submarines are tough. They could handle the tsunami. She's probably out there somewhere right now."Nicole took comfort in that. They might never find one another on this vast, flooded planet, but knowing her friends could still be alive was enough. All four were aboard the same submarine. They had one another to rely on.Perhaps Jeremy and Hughie were thinking of her, too. She could almost hear them inviting her over for a barbecue.Having people to look forward to seeing again made the future feel a little less empty.Maybe their wandering would bring them across No. 2639 someday, and they would get together for a meal far beneath the surface.Nicole turned her attention back to Sawyer. "You've been down here a while. Have you run into any other submarines?"Sawyer nodded. "A few. None from our country."

Just after midnight, the timer refreshed. One hundred thirty minutes remaining. That meant time could stack.Nicole nearly laughed out loud. Seconds mattered. During crucial moments, even a minute could mean the difference between living and dying. She decided that unless it was absolutely necess

Nicole jolted, then immediately checked with her mind. The storage space was still there. The supplies were still there, too. She tested it; she thought of an item, and a coal briquette appeared in her hand.Sweeping the space again, she noticed the glowing timer had reset to zero. That was when

Nicole never expected the new resident of 1801 to be the same young man who had helped her at the courier station. He looked mildly surprised, too. He nodded once at her, then went back to work.Up close, he was striking in a cold, sharp way. He was tall and lean, with broad shoulders and clean li

Two miles was nothing. The Hummer reached the entrance to the complex in just a few minutes.Nicole handed the man 400 dollars, thanking him for saving her and for ignoring traffic rules. His voice stayed cool. "No need. I was heading this way, anyway."Seeing he wouldn't take it, she didn't push
