Prologue

Lightening danced outside the window of my bedroom; I couldn't sleep. The creaking of the old house raddled my nerves and kept me awake. I hated being alone; mother and father had to work late and told me to get in bed before they got home. As I tossed and turned, I heard something, a whisper, "Anna..." I looked up, but nothing was there, I closed my eyes once more and heard it again, "Anna..." but still, nothing. Footsteps and a loud thud echoed from the upstairs attic which scared me,

"Mom? Dad?" no reply; another noise echoed, and I jumped. Thunder clapped; thinking that was the noise, I turned back over to try to sleep. But then I heard something shatter upstairs, I got out of bed and grabbed my flashlight from the nightstand; I shined it around my room, but I didn't see anything but my things. I heard something else from the attic.

I grew tired of being afraid of the attic and decided to investigate. Reaching for the cord to lower the ladder, I felt a shiver go down my spine, something told me not to go, but I ignored it. I had to figure out what was going on. I pulled the cord and began to climb the ladder.

Once I made it to the attic, I began shining the light through the room, but I still didn't see anything. Walking through, I felt something touch the bottom of my foot; it was glass. Why was there glass? I looked up to see a mirror that used to be in my room; I remember it like it was yesterday. Mom and Dad took it out when I was little because I woke up from nightmares; I was six, talking about gruesome things that a six-year-old girl shouldn't know about. I shoved that memory aside and looked back at the mirror then started to leave, but I saw something, a glimpse of something "Hello?" I breathed; my chest was beginning to hurt. I heard the voice again,

"Anna," I turned around, standing right in front of the mirror was a girl, about the same age as me; I could see straight through her...what was she? A ghost? I took in a deep breath and asked,

"Who are you?" she looked up at me, her face seemed so sad; in a way, she looked like me. She began to speak softly,

"I don't remember who I was, but I remember this house, living here." I feared her, but I wanted to know more. "I would play here in the attic and my room a lot; but one day, daddy took me up here, and I never came down..." my heart nearly stopped, what did he do to her, I wondered, "You're in danger, Anna." I could feel the panic seeping through my body,

"How do you know my name? What do you mean?" my questions remained unanswered as she disappeared. I walked to the spot the girl had stood; the moment I did, I was struck with terror by what was standing behind me. Before I could even scream...I was dead.
