The Memory Loss

The pounding ache in her head was making it difficult for Renata to open her eyes. She knew drinking so much would be a pain in the ass in the morning, yet her girls made her drink. What is the big deal in turning twenty-nine? Everyone turns twenty-nine.

Renata knew what she needed, coffee. A large cup of black coffee would help her or maybe Sameeksha could give her a banana bag. It was good to have a doctor in the house. She sat up but kept her eyes closed.

“What?” she groaned. “I understand why my head is pounding. I don’t understand why my whole body is aching. It feels like I spend a whole day in the gym. Shit!” she sighed. She lifted her hand to stretch when her blanket fell from her chest.

“What the hell!!” she shouted as she found herself naked. “Ah, girls! What kind of stupid prank is this?” she looked around her room, her red dress was lying at the foot of the bed. “Why would they leave me naked? Stupid, girls!” she groaned.

Rubbing her temple with her middle finger she took out fresh clothes from her closet and covered her body. Carefully, mapping her path to the living room, she came out of her room. Being Sunday, her housemates were inside the house.

Hazel was getting ready to do laundry. Sameeksha was reading a medical journal. Ambrosia and Valentina were idly sitting on the couch watching some stupid morning show.

“Why the volume is so high?” complained Renata.

All her friends stopped what they were doing and looked at her with sly smirk on their faces.

“What?” shouted Renata.

“Oh my! You are gorgeous!” teased Hazel.

“Oh shit! Oh shit! That was not a dream?” cried Renata. All friends smiled and nodded their heads in no. She sat with a thud on the couch, “I have never done that. How could I say to a man that he looks good? I would never do that. I am a hardass when it comes to men. Oh god! It was so humiliating.”

Everyone immediately looked at each other. Renata noticed the exchange of looks. “What?” she asked.

“Oh…” Hazel opened her mouth but didn’t know how to tell Renata.

“What? What else happened? Oh! Did I do something even more embarrassing?”

“The thing is…” said Ambrosia. The scary one was scared now.

“What? What are you hiding?” shouted Renata.

“Well! You were about to kiss him,” said Valentina. “You ran away from me and were about to kiss him.”

Renata’s jaw dropped to the floor. “I… o… phew…” No legible words were coming out of her mouth.

“Not only that, you fainted and he helped you and us get back home,” replied Hazel.

“What do you mean he helped me?”

“Um… you fainted, as we all know, so… he lifted you in his arms,” said Sameeksha.

“He did what? And you guys let him?” shouted Renata.

“Wait till you hear this,” Valentina rolled her eyes.

“There’s more?”

“He gave us a lift in his car and then carried you all the way to your bed,” said Ambrosia.

“Excuse me!” Renata stood up in shock. “He was inside our house? Are you serious? You let a stranger enter our house. What if he was a serial killer? What if he was mafia?”

“Haa! As if the Mafia is real. That is stuff for movies and books,” laughed Sameeksha.

“She is worried about him being in our house. What about when you were in his arms?” sniggered Valentina and all the others joined her. The snigger changed into a loud laugh.

“I just can’t even… SHUT UP!!” she shouted at her friends. “Where is the newspaper? None of you brought it inside?” she scolded.

“Oh, old soul! No one reads the newspaper nowadays. You can get all the news on your phone,” teased Ambrosia.

“I like the feel and smell of newspaper. Do you have a problem?” snapped Renata.

“No!”

“Then go make coffee, it’s your turn. I will the newspaper,” said Renata to Ambrosia and walked to the door. Her doorman made sure that the newspaper was kept on her welcome mat every morning.

She opened the door and bowed down to pick up the newspaper. Before she could stand up, she saw two legs coming at her way. She stood up and faced the stranger.

“Excuse me!” said the tall, rugged-faced man.

“Yes! How can I help you?” asked Renata. She knew she had seen that man somewhere but could not recall where.

“Um… Hi! We met yesterday. I am Severino. Can you tell me when Michel is coming out?” he asked.

“Who?” asked Renata.

“Uhh… you don’t remember, do you?” asked Severino.

“Remember what?”

“He took you inside. You were unconscious,” replied Severino.

Renata gasped as her mind started working. “You mean to say that the man who helped me, didn’t come out last night. You mean to say he spent the night in my house?”

“Yes!”

“Holy Shit!” she shouted and shut the door in Severino’s face.

“What? What? Who was it?” all her friends came running.

“Was there anyone in your rooms last night?” asked Renata.

“What, no? said Hazel. “I was alone.”

“Me too,” said Sameeksha.

“There was no one in our room. What is the matter?” asked Ambrosia who shared her room with Valentina.

“Someone…” Renata pointed her thumb behind her at the door, “…is saying that a man stayed here last night. The man…” she lowered her voice, “… who helped us.”

“Not in my room,” shouted Hazel.

“Not me,” said Sameeksha.

“Not us,” said Ambrosia and Valentina together.

All looked at each other and then together shouted ‘shit’.

“But how?” Renata was breathing heavily. “I… I just woke up… there was no one inside…” Renata gasped and stopped talking. Flashes of last night started appearing before her eyes. She recalled her mouth over someone’s mouth, her tongue inside someone’s mouth, her hands over someone’s body, someone’s hand over her body, someone’s something inside her.

“No, no, no, shit! Shit! Shit!” she shouted and ran towards her room. She flung the door open and before her, Michelangelo was standing in his trousers with a towel around his neck. His soft curls were holding pearls of water that kept falling on his smooth shoulder and running all the way to his chest.

“FU… CK… ME…” she shouted.

“Um… I did that last night. Want a second time?” smirked Michelangelo.

“Who? What?” all her friends came running. Renata immediately closed the door, hiding Michelangelo in her room.

“What did I do? What did I do?” Renata kept repeating.

“Someone had a blast birthday,” teased Hazel.

“Oh, shut up!” shouted Renata and opened her door. She didn’t let anyone peep and closed the door almost instantly.

“Who are you?” she shouted at Michelangelo.

“Uh… my name is Michelangelo. We met last night, remember?”

“Do I look like I remember?” she shouted.

Michelangelo smirked and started walking towards her. Renata tilted her head and stepped back immediately. But Michelangelo didn’t stop. Renata blinked vigorously and froze after her back banged against the door. Her hands started looking for the doorknob. She almost had the door open when he caged her with her body and shut the door.

“First you initiate everything and now you act like you don’t remember,” he bit his lips.

“I… I did what?” Renata’s eyes widened.

“You grabbed my collar and kissed me,” he winked at her.

“SHUT UP!! I do… I don… I don’t do things like that,” she protested.

“Well, you did it with me,” he licked his lips.

His words and his actions were making the atmosphere very hot. Renata’s brain was fried now. She had no idea how to behave in front of the Greek god. His sculpted muscles, the water droplets all over his chest, the soft curls moving with the water droplets, were making her hot and wet.

That feeling made her remember how hot and wet she was last night.

She curled her lips in ‘O’ and exhaled a big puff of air. She didn’t want to believe his words. She didn’t want to believe the flashes she was having. She didn’t want to believe her bed and the crumpled sheets on it.

“Do you want me to jog your memory? I won’t mind,” he teased.

“No, thanks!” she shouted and pushed him away. She instantly opened the door but instead of her going out, her friends fell inside her room.

“Oh my!” shouted Hazel when she saw the handsome angel before her. All the girls started giggling.

Renata groaned and rolled her eyes. She shouted at Michelangelo, “will you leave, please? Someone is waiting for you outside.”

“Let him. Won’t you offer some tea or coffee?” he teased.

“You literally are a stranger. Please leave!”

“You slept with this stranger,” he winked again.

“Ohh!!!” the girls hooted.

Renata hid her face with her palms and ran away from the room.
