I reached out and threw the curtains open before coldly looking at the old woman.

"Hi. Please keep your voice down. If you need to be loud, go outside."

The old woman felt embarrassed at my words. She grabbed the bag the pregnant woman had left behind and yelled at the baby, “Not only are you a mother-killing jinx, you’re an embarrassment, too! I’m selling you off once we get home!”

She barged past me while viciously pinching the baby in her arms.

I only caught a glimpse of the baby’s left ear. There was an oval-shaped birthmark.

The baby cried out in agony. “Ow! It hurts so much. Mommy, please save me!”

Unbothered, I looked away and rocked my baby daughter gently in my arms.

“Rosa, what happened? How did you end up in labor while I'm on a work trip?”

My husband, Nolan Grey, entered the ward while panting. He ran directly into the old woman carrying the baby.

“Watch where you’re going! You hurt my elbow. I demand compensation.”

The child’s voice in my head turned louder and shriller. It sounded close to tears, yet joyful.

“Daddy! It’s Daddy! Daddy, it’s me, Alex!”

Nolan looked around in search of the source of the voice. His gaze was one of confusion.

“Look down, Daddy! I’m the baby that old woman is carrying!”

Nolan looked at the baby and was taken aback. He hurriedly said apologetically to the old woman, “I’ll take you for a check-up. Please wait for me outside.”

Nolan strode over to my bedside and said agitatedly, “Rosa, did you hear that? The child that the old woman was holding said he’s our Alex!”

I frowned and leaned forward to sniff at Nolan. Then, I said hesitantly, “It doesn’t smell like you’ve been drinking.”

Nolan’s shoulders fell in dejection.

“I’m serious. Didn’t you see that? The kid had a birthmark just like Alex’s!”

I was unmoved as I replied, “That doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a coincidence.”

He looked up at me and asked, puzzled, “Did you really not hear that?”

“What did the kid say?”

Nolan’s eyes shone as he clutched my hand. “He said he’s Alex reincarnated! He’s our Alex, but reincarnated as the baby from the next bed because he was a step too late! Goodness! I can’t believe there’s actually such a thing in this world. Rosa, let’s take him home!”

Nolan’s face beamed with excitement.

In sharp contrast, my expression got even colder.

“Get it together. Alex died in that sailing incident. Besides, that child has a grandmother.”

Once the housekeeper, Mrs. Volescu, helped me into the wheelchair, I told Nolan, “Stop being a busybody. Let’s go. We’re going back to Florinberg.”

“Didn’t you hear what that woman said? Our child is going to be sold off!”

I looked straight at Nolan, and he immediately froze.

“I-I heard it in my head. Alex has a light case of asthma. His grandmother thinks he’s a burden.”

I remained silent. Nolan became excitable again as he suggested, “We can hire the child’s grandmother to be a nanny. She can take care of you while making money to raise the child.”

“No,” I said decisively.

Nolan frowned. “Rosa, you’ve always been so kind. How could you leave him to die?”

“You haven’t even taken one look at your daughter,” I said, interrupting him. “Is Lucy your baby or that kid?”

“Lucy, of course!” Nolan blurted out. He sounded tense. Quickly, he reached out to take our daughter.

But I moved to avoid him. I looked at him inquisitively.

“With the way you’re acting, I want to do a paternity test.”

Nolan’s hands hung frozen in midair as he rushed to explain.

“Trust me, Rosa. Alex and Lucy are my only children. It’s just that I miss Alex so much—”

My expression was steely, my gaze cold.

Nolan could not help but gulp.

All of a sudden, I spluttered and burst into laughter. The iciness melted away as I teased, “Look how worried you are. I was just joking. I know what kind of man you are. How could I not? But that old lady can’t ever be a nanny. We can bring the kid home, though.”

Nolan’s posture loosened. His voice was a little croaky as he said emotionally, “I’m so lucky to have a wife like you, Rosa.”

I opened my mouth to reply. “On one condition.”

He glanced at me, his hands balling into fists by his sides.

“Once we find a suitable candidate to adopt that boy, we’re sending him away.”

Jackson must have been through some terrible experiences while he was with the couple. Perhaps his asthma had been triggered and he had not received treatment in time. Whatever happened, it resulted in irreversible brain damage. Angela’s mother, Mia, ran away after realizing that Angela was only going to cause her trouble. All of her assets had been seized as recompense, while her two children would cost her a fortune to raise. Angela became mired in poverty and no end of troubles. As the two children were covered in their own filth and screamed for milk, Angela broke down and started crying. More despairing was the fact she would be imprisoned after she weaned her second baby. “No, this isn’t how my life should be going…”That very night, Angela had a dream. In that dream, Nolan used the “voices” and managed to trick Rosa completely. They paid off the nanny so that Lucy would constantly be getting allergic reactions. She would then be brought into Rosa’s villa as a skill

Nolan became immediately frozen to the spot, and his arms and legs went weak. Angela realized that something was wrong after a moment. She reflexively looked around. “T-That can’t be. Right?”On an overpass not far from the company’s offices, the flashing lights and sirens of police cars came on. I grinned. “What a perfect coup. The police are coming to arrest you right now.”“Let’s go!”Nolan was pale and his expression wavering as he pulled Angela to turn and try to escape. Calmly, I gave an order. “Stop them.”“Yes, Madam!”Nolan punched Sam and eyed a gap through which he could flee to freedom. Several muscled, uniformed security guards leaped out and swarmed Nolan and Angela. Sam wiped the blood from the edge of his mouth and called out darkly, “Beat them up!”The security guards rushed up and shoved Nolan to the floor to thrash him viciously. When the police arrived upstairs, Nolan had been beaten into a pulp. They chastised me for the violence. However, onc

“It’s not like that, Rosa. Alex is talking nonsense. Let me explain.”“I’m not talking nonsense!”How much did Alex know?I frowned while picking him up. Alex clutched my hand tightly and refused to go back into the lounge. Resigned, I signaled for Sam to bring out Nolan’s mother. She had been bound tightly. “Tell us if Alex is talking nonsense.”The old woman had been locked up for quite a few days by then. She looked at me and started cursing me out. “How does it concern you on the way I discipline my grandson? Don’t think you’re all that just because you have money, Rosa Bradley! No one but my son would be interested in you. You’re a despicable, unlovable tomboy!”Sam moved forward to shove a tea towel into the old woman’s mouth. I slapped her. Her face instantly swelled up. “I do have the right, because your son was the one who married into my family. He’s only successful because of me!”Nolan rushed forward in a rage to stop me from hitting his mother again. He s

That very day, I went to the office and started firing Nolan’s co-conspirators en masse. The proof of their illegal dealings was so numerous that it piled up into a mountain. It was like shooting fish in a barrel, and they could do nothing to resist it. In a scant three days, most of them were arrested. Only one of the upper managers managed to escape because he happened to use the bathroom. Surely, he would have sent a message to Nolan to warn him. But that would really ruin the fun. “Sam, you need to make sure that Nolan can’t receive any calls or messages.”“Yes, Madam Bradley.”Thus, just as Nolan was anxiously trying to contact Jackson’s adoptive parents, he kept receiving countless scam calls. In a few hours, his message inbox was bursting. By the time they ended up at the adoptive parents’ address, they found that the place was an uninhabited, condemned house. No one lived in the surrounding two miles of the place. They finally realized they had been tricked

Early the next morning, the security camera showed someone coming inside. Nolan checked the nursery, then the bedroom, but he could not find Jackson. He felt ill at ease for some reason. My phone started ringing. I spared it a glance but did not answer it. In the footage, I saw Nolan put a hand on his hip as he paced the living room. He kept trying to reach me on the phone. I signaled for Mrs. Volescu to answer the phone. Nolan was frowning. With an anxious, he said, “Rosa, why isn’t the baby at home? Where did you take him?”Mrs. Volescu answered calmly, “Sir, the madam has brought the baby out to do a health check-up. She can’t answer the phone right now.”“Ah, I see.”Nolan sighed heavily and said in a sincere tone, “Rosa is really doing a lot. Tell her that I’ll take care of the company, so she should relax.”The second he finished talking, my financial consultant warned me something was off. I smirked.Later, Nolan dressed himself up and casually drove to the office

“Who are you?”Nolan hurriedly walked forward to make introductions. “I forgot to tell you, Rosa. The nanny was awful, so I fired her. Mrs. Volescu was also responsible for that incident, so she's gone as well. This is Angela Harper. She’s a really good nanny. She can take care of the kids and help you with the household chores.”When she heard about the chores, Angela clenched her teeth minutely. I scoffed to myself. In the previous timeline, Lucy kept having allergic reactions. Thus, Nolan fired Mrs. Volescu, who had been working for me for five years. He had brought in his mistress as a staff member this way as well. But Angela was not the kind of person who could handle working for her rival in love as a servant. She had poisoned my food. Before I nearly died and went back in time, she had even stomped on my face. With hatred in her expression, she said, “I was with Nolan first, so why did I have to hide in the shadows while you lived it up in luxury and showed off yo
