Chapter 2

Author: Prosperous Eagle
Luca looked at the streaks of blood on me and frowned.

Sally, however, looked like she had suffered a terrible grievance. "Forget it. If she likes the necklace, she can have it."

Luca was enraged upon hearing this. "No way! You're my real sister, Sally. Grammie's keepsake should belong to you."

His real sister, huh?

In the past, Luca would go to great lengths to spoil me and get me whatever I wanted. But ever since our parents adopted Sally, his attitude toward me changed completely. He believed Sally was his perfect little sister and that I was just a spoiled brat.

Just like that, they gave her my identity and the love that once belonged to me. In the end, to keep me from standing in Sally's way, they made it so that I perished in a fire.

In this life, I refused to stand down in hopes of securing their worthless love.

"Grammie passed down that necklace to me, but you stole it. Wait till Mom and Dad arrive and find out you not only gave her the heirloom necklace but also swapped out the bride. Let's see what they'll say," I challenged.

My parents had planned to make a grand entrance toward the end of the wedding to surprise me. They wanted my wedding to be perfect. However, Luca and Sally seized the chance to move the wedding earlier so that she would get married to Aidan before my parents could interfere.

With a graceful and composed smile, Sally said, "If you liked it, you could have told me. How could you claim Grammie gave it to you? She's my Grammie, not yours."

Sally's friend, Tasha Smith, immediately stepped forward to defend her. "You're twisting the truth, Zadie. You're just a filthy tramp the Weatherbys took in upon discovering you in a heap of trash. Stop dreaming that you're the heiress. Know your place."

Seeing that I refused to back down, Grandma panted heavily in rage.

She tried to get the event going by urging, "Let's not waste any more time. Time is passing as we drag it out. Let's proceed to the next step. Bring out the wedding gifts prepared for the bride."

The staff pushed me aside rudely.

I watched helplessly as Luca was about to transfer my shares and properties to Sally. They were out of their minds! Mom and Dad had long prepared those assets for me.

"All of that is mine. If you dare transfer it, you'd better be ready for a lawsuit," I warned.

Luca's hand paused for a moment over the document, but he proceeded to sign his name resolutely once he got over his hesitance.

He declared, "Mom and Dad said this is for my sister, and my sister is Sally. Stop coveting what's not yours."

Grandma pointed a shaking finger at me and cursed, "You jinx! Don't even think about getting a single cent from the Weatherby family's fortune. It all belongs to Sally."

Sally chimed in haughtily, "As expected of a country bumpkin. She's short-sighted and wants everything for herself. Just ignore her, Luca."

I could have grown up cherished and adored in Jirvia. But for my family, I went far away to recuperate on my own so that they wouldn't need to worry. But all I got in return was cold betrayal.

The guests were quick to contribute their scornful remarks.

"Look at her biting the very hand that feeds her."

"In the end, it's all about the Weatherby family's money. She has lost her mind, wanting to claim it for herself."

Luca wore a pained expression as he said, "You disrupted Sally's wedding. But if you kneel and apologize, I'll give you a chance."

I sneered. "Have I done anything wrong? Why should I apologize to a fraud?"

Sally swayed delicately on her feet. Her eyes brimmed with unshed tears, making her look pitiful.

Luca's heart went out to her. He ordered his men to force me to my knees and apologize to his beloved sister.

Aidan looked at me with a regretful expression. My assistant, Dani Boyle, thought he was finally coming to his senses.

"Mr. Yorke, please vouch for Ms. Zadie," Dani urged.

But Aidan gently wiped Sally's tears instead. "We've been too soft on her. It is because of our kindness that she repeatedly challenged Sally without a care."

Back then, he had pursued me for five years before Dad finally agreed to our engagement. Yet, he turned around and fell for Sally in no time at all. For her, he was willing to risk the longstanding goodwill between our two families by replacing the bride.

I spat at his face. "Are you truly stupid, or are you just pretending to be stupid? Do you really not know who your fiancee is?"

When Sally was about to suffocate and take her last breath, everyone finally came to their senses and pulled Aidan away from her. Sally was too terrified to utter a single word after that.Mom had calmed down by then. She took the documents handed over by the lawyer and glanced through them quickly. She then tossed them in front of Luca and Sally."Sign them. From this moment on, you'll have nothing to do with the Weatherby family," she said grimly. That single sentence was practically a death sentence to Luca and Sally. The two of them kneeled on the floor in despair, unwilling to be removed from our family. They begged by prostrating themselves and pounding their heads against the ground incessantly until blood streamed down their foreheads. They didn't dare to stop, knowing that they needed our mercy more than anything. But the moment they chose to harm me, they had already pushed themselves to the point of no return. Any wish for leniency was nothing more than their own delusi

"What misunderstanding? I'd like to hear it!" Mom bellowed. Her furious roar cut through the hall as her assistant hurried behind her, whispering an account of everything that had happened to me.The moment she saw me, her eyes widened in shock. Like an enraged lioness, she charged forward and hurled her handbag at those who had wronged me with incredible force. None of them dared to move. They all stood rigidly as Mom struck them again and again, venting her rage. Before she was done lashing out at them, the strap of her bag snapped, and it flew across the floor. Her gaze landed on the bloodstained dining knife on the ground. She snatched it up and lunged forward, ready to stab those she was mad at.Dad grabbed her and held her back. He quickly murmured some soothing words to calm her down."How dare you lay a hand on Zadie! I will never let you get away with this!" Mom roared. Her wild, hysterical bout of rage made Sally's knees go weak. She buckled and landed on the floor wi

"What do you mean?" Luca blurted. All eyes turned toward him, sharp and questioning. The moment he asked that question, he regretted it dearly. His gut told him that the answer was a Pandora's box that should have never been opened. But Dad had already made up his mind to reveal the truth. He said firmly, "Not only is Sally adopted, but so are you. All these years, we've raised you as the heir to the Weatherby family. Yet, this is what you chose to do."Luca staggered back, his face drained of color. "That's impossible. How can you say that? I'm definitely your son!"He suddenly gripped Grandma's hand tightly with a desperate look in his eyes. "Be honest with me, Grandma. Dad's lying, isn't he?"Grandma winced in pain. "Let go, Luca. You're going to break my hand. It's true that they adopted you, but so was their love for you throughout the years. Apologize to Jacob. Fathers and sons shouldn't hold a grudge against each other."Many turned to look at me sympathetically. A few g

As Dad watched the scene unfold, he finally understood everything. He turned to see Luca standing off to the side, looking awkward and uneasy. He barked at Luca, "You wretch! Why are you so concerned about the inheritance? Did you transfer the assets that your mother and I prepared for Zadie to Sally?"Even with his head lowered, Luca was still defiant. "You and Mom have always been biased toward Zadie. If I hadn't done this for Sally, would you have ever given anything to her?"Dad let out a cold scoff. "If that's how you feel, then I might as well give your share to Zadie."The words had barely left his mouth when Luca exclaimed in disbelief, "How could you? That's my share!"The entire banquet hall fell silent.Upon realizing that he had inadvertently exposed his true character, Luca quickly lowered his voice and tried to justify his outburst. He hastily said, "I mean… I'm your heir. So, I should manage more of the business. A young woman like Zadie wouldn't be able to handle

A layer of cold sweat formed on Sally's forehead as she bit her lip hard.I chuckled derisively. "Is that so? Was it Sally who told you that?"Grandma looked at Sally with a hopeful gaze, waiting for her answer. I, too, wanted to see how she would justify her lie in front of Dad.But Sally's flustered expression made Luca feel sorry for her.He cut in impatiently, "Does it matter whether Sally was the one who made the donation or not? It was just some bone marrow. What's the big deal? Do we have to be so fixated on it?"A sharp laugh escaped my lips, and I said mockingly, "You, of all people, should know how big a deal it was. Didn't Dad ask you to get tested back then? Why didn't you go?"I still remembered how my parents had worried themselves sick over this matter. They spent a lot of money searching for a donor but couldn't find a suitable one. In the end, they had to reach out to all our relatives, but none of them were compatible. Finally, they decided to let Luca undergo

The moment Grandma said those words, astonished gasps filled the entire hall. Dad's commanding presence and the chilly air he emanated made everyone around him too frightened to even breathe too loudly.Luca's back straightened with confidence as soon as Grandma spoke up to back him up. He said arrogantly, "Dad, you need me to inherit the family's business in the future. I'm the son you can rely on. You should just give up on Zadie."Dad's rage flared. "I'm not dead yet. So, what's this talk about inheritance? Who taught you to say this? And who talked you into neglecting your sister? Was it Sally?"Sally flinched in panic, shaking her head and stepping back in fear.Aidan frowned, displeased to see his new bride so frightened. "Mr. Weatherby, this is a joyous day. Sally and I just got married. Must you ruin it like this? We're in-laws now. Shouldn't you at least be considerate toward the Yorke family…"His voice trailed off as Dad shot him a sharp, intimidating glare. A pampe
