Chapter 1

"Are you absolutely sure you want to do this, Alpha? Ophelia Hale only got badly injured because she tried to save you. When she wakes up and realizes she's lost her wolf, the pain might drive her mad," the healer said.

He was holding a syringe of liquid silver in his hand, but he couldn't bring himself to inject it into my system.

However, Xander Smith, Alpha of the New Moon pack, didn't want to waste another second.

"Stop stalling and just do it," he ordered. "It doesn't matter if she lashes out. As long as the silver kills her wolf entirely, she'll have no choice but to accept it.

"Dahlia has already lost the ability to be a mother and was exiled by the Red Moon pack. She'll only be spared from judgment if she becomes my son's mother. So, I'm willing to give up everything to keep Dahlia from suffering," Xander stated.

"But Ophelia is your Luna. Yet, you want to kill her wolf and take her pup away from her. Aren't you afraid she'll hate you?" the healer argued.

He was a soft-hearted werewolf, so he tried to persuade Xander again. "Also, your parents never liked her to begin with. And how will she survive in the pack if she loses her wolf?"

"Ophelia won't find out as long as you cover your tracks properly. Besides, Dahlia will only appear to have me and my son. Deep down, my son and I will still love Ophelia, just like always," Xander countered.

While gently kissing the back of my hand, he added, "A Luna should respect all of her mate's decisions anyway, right?"

Xander's voice was still tender, and his touch on my cheek was as gentle as ever. However, I felt ice-cold all over and couldn't stop myself from shuddering.

He was about to notice my consciousness when his phone rang.

"How's your Luna, Alpha Xander? Does she know you intentionally fell for the trap to force her to save you—so that you could kill her wolf?" the person on the other end asked.

"Shut up!" Xander snapped coldly.

"I'll give you another two million dollars to forget everything. Remember—this was all an accident. Even the Moon Goddess couldn't have seen it coming. If Ophelia ever finds out, I'll make sure you both pay for it," the unknown caller threatened.

Then, he hung up.

Xander shot me another glance before urging the healer once more. "Do it, and make sure to give her an anesthetic. I don't want her to suffer too much."

I felt a silver needle pierce my skin, and then my strength drained from my body. Like a dying prey, my fate was entirely in someone else's hands. But unfortunately for me, the man I once trusted enough to give my life to was the same man who wanted to kill me.

Tears discreetly slid down my cheeks and soaked the pillow.

It was ridiculous.

Xander had been my mate for six years. Yet, I wasn't the mate he treasured most. My mate was willing to hand my son to her to keep Dahlia from being judged. Then, afraid that I would disagree and might hurt Dahlia, he had deliberately fallen into a trap.

Xander even colluded with Rogues to seriously injure me and then used this chance to kill my wolf, reducing me to the same level as an Omega.

The happiness and bliss I once believed in were all fake. Our relationship was built on betrayal and lies.

My consciousness gradually faded as the anesthetic started to kick in. But in the next second, I jolted awake from pain.

As the liquid silver entered my body, I felt a searing pain spread from the end of my spine to the rest of my body. My wolf howled in torment and struggled with all her might to resist the poisonous effects of the silver. But it was no use—we couldn't fight something we were naturally weak against.

The silver slithered through my veins like a snake, and I felt my wolf begin to fade. I felt like my heart was being stabbed by thousands of glass shards, killing whatever love I had left for Xander.

I don’t get it - how does no one know who she is .. and why didn’t she stop the doctor from administering the silver injection if she was awake Am also tired of all these authors using the pretend -she pushed me -scenario in their books — it is played out!

  • The Best of Both Worlds? Sorry, No   Chapter 9

Xander's words infuriated Leo, who wanted to attack him again. After quickly wrapping my arms around Leo, I said, "I trust you."Of course, I was prepared to accept the consequences of accepting Leo as my mate—win or lose. And just as Vivienne had said, Leo was the best werewolf there was. At 18 years old, he could already suppress his pheromones, and his self-control was unmatched.Hence, someone like Leo wouldn't psychologically compromise himself for someone he didn't love. That was why I believed he wouldn't let me lose.Turning my head, I looked mockingly at Xander. "Not every Alpha is as useless as you. And what makes you so sure I didn't regain my wolf?"With that, I shifted into a pure, silver wolf. My claws glinted coldly under the moonlight as I raised a paw."Don't show yourself in front of me again. If you do, I'll kill you," I threatened."Ophelia!" Xander heartbreakingly cried, but I never looked back again."My love, he hurt you so badly. Are you sure you don't

"I don't believe you," Xander retorted. He looked deathly pale under the moonlight, and his eyes were locked on Leo's arm around my waist."You're doing this on purpose to get back at me, aren't you, Ophelia? How could you be with Leo when I'm the one you love?" Xander questioned. His eyes had become even more bloodshot, and his voice had started to tremble. "I didn't mate with Dahlia, Ophelia. I never touched her. She told me she was hurting—that's why I pretended to give her a home. My heart chose you as my Luna, Ophelia. It was always you."That day, when my mother tried to force you out, I only acted like I didn't care because I was worried—worried that if I argued with my mother, she would only make things even worse for you."After Leander's appointment ceremony was over, I immediately looked for you. And all the things you left behind in your home? I didn't allow anyone to touch them," Xander explained."I swear I love you, Ophelia. So please, come back with me—okay? If yo

Upon learning I had rejected Leo, Vivienne couldn't understand why."Why? Don't tell me you'll remain mateless for the rest of your life just because of that bastard, Xander?" she interrogated.I shook my head. "No, I'm just scared. I'm afraid my wolf might never fully recover. And I'm afraid that if I do fall in love again, it'll all end the same way. Plus, you said yourself that Leo is way better than Xander. Xander's mother always looked down on me, so why would Leo's pack ever accept me?"Vivienne suddenly looked sternly at me. "Ophelia, you're a werewolf, and you were the best she-wolf warrior in the entire joint task force. Where's that pride and confidence you used to have? How can one heartbreak make you think you'll never find true love and happiness again?"You're underestimating yourself—and Leo too. As the best healer across all the werewolf packs, I'm telling you you deserve the best the world has to offer," she admonished.I was dazed after hearing this. Could it be

  • The Best of Both Worlds? Sorry, No   Chapter 6

On the fifth day in the Glacialio, my wolf had recovered halfway, and I could shift again.Leo was off gathering ice crystals for me when Vivienne approached me, holding her phone."Xander just posted a huge reward on the werewolf internal network because he couldn't find you anywhere. Anyone who is able to provide information on your whereabouts will receive five million moonstones," she said.I scoffed. "What? So I can go back to being insulted by his Luna and son? Too bad for him—my wolf will fully recover soon."Leo silently offered me a cup of glacial water. Then, on my behalf, he proficiently cleared away the ice shards I had destroyed with my claws. He was a powerful Alpha, yet he did such menial tasks for me. It made me feel what it was like to be considerately cared for.I thought back to my six years with Xander. Throughout those years, I had been like an obedient robot. He hadn't liked me joining him on hunts, so I could only hunt alone. He had wanted his home to be

  • The Best of Both Worlds? Sorry, No   Chapter 5

After leaving the New Moon pack's territory, Vivienne and I traveled far north to the Silver Moon pack. The freezing climate helped ease the pain I felt from purging the wolfsbane from my body. The moment we arrived, we saw someone I hadn't seen in years—Leo Everhart.Vivienne slyly nudged me. "I've always said Leo is the one who truly loves you most. The second I casually mentioned you'd be staying here for a while, he was already waiting here."I looked perplexedly at the wolf before me.He had the signature snow-white coat that all Silver Moon wolves do. Under the northern lights, his fur appeared to have a metallic luster, as though the Arctic's moonlight had been draped on him.Leo was undoubtedly a much more powerful Alpha than Xander.I narrowed my eyes as I studied him. Then, a short while later, I looked away and shook my head."We haven't spoken in six years. There's no way he's waiting for me," I argued. However, Vivienne ignored me and called out to Leo. "Excuse me,

  • The Best of Both Worlds? Sorry, No   Chapter 4

Xander had arranged for Leander's appointment ceremony to be held at Austin Castle. As for me, I had been dumped in a storage room, far away from the festivities outside. From the glass window, I could see Xander and Dahlia dressed in matching ceremonial outfits, with Leander standing between them.I watched as they each held one of his hands and introduced him to the guests. They all had affectionate expressions as they received blessings from different packs. No one would ever doubt they weren't a family.Bitterness rose in my chest at the sight. After taking out the only family photo I had of me, Xander, and Leander, I slowly lit it on fire. Then, I watched as it turned to ash.Suddenly, the door flew open because a pup had barged in.The pup cried in surprise, "What's an Omega doing at your appointment ceremony, Leander? Who is she?""She's just a stray my daddy generously took in," Leander answered. The pup suddenly charged at me and shoved me to the floor. The sharp metal
