Mia

“Who are you?

The question slipped out sharper than I intended as I studied the strange woman standing in my living room. She looked to be in her late twenties…young and undeniably pretty. That fact alone stirred something ugly in my chest, something tight and unpleasant that I didn’t bother suppressing.

I watched her eyes…not on me, but on Rolex. She hesitated, as though waiting for his permission before answering me. That alone sealed it.

I didn’t like her.

“Hi,” she said finally, forcing a polite smile. “You can call me Lissa. I’ve been assigned to keep you company and help with your needs.”

Assigned? My jaw tightened.

Rolex gave her a nod, a quiet approval, accompanied by a smile that I should only be the one that had access to it. It was polite and I hated that I noticed.

I didn’t trust her, not even a little and I definitely wasn’t leaving my children with her.

I didn’t trust her around Rolex, let alone my babies. The way she looked at him the admiration barely concealed beh

KayHe must be losing his mind.Kay let out a low chuckle, lifting a hand to brush back his hair as the image of her flashed uninvited through his thoughts. The way she had stood there. The way her eyes had followed him. He shook his head quickly, forcing himself back to reality. Whatever that was, whatever strange pull he had felt, it had no place in his life, not after everything. He walked toward his car, pressed the remote, and listened to the familiar click as the doors unlocked. Sliding into the driver’s seat, he shut the door behind him and leaned back, exhaling deeply. For a brief moment, the quiet wrapped around him before a hand suddenly locked around his neck from behind, fingers digging into his skin, before he could react, cold metal blade pressed against his throat. Kay froze instantly. One wrong move. He knew it. His pulse thundered loudly in his ears as his eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, searching for the attacker. But he couldn’t see her.Whoever it was had po

Mia“I understand that you’re pregnant, Mia,” Rolex said, running a hand through his hair as he exhaled slowly and the faint scent of exhaustion clinging to him. “But like I said before, Lissa is like a sister to me. The only reason she’s here is to look after you. Nothing more.”His voice was calm, but there was something underneath it…tight and restrained, yet I felt it immediately.“If you don’t want her around,” he continued, his jaw tightening, “then fine. I’ll send her back. You don’t have to be bitter about it.”The words hit harder than I expected.Bitter.The room seemed to tilt slightly, my chest tightening as tears stung my eyes. It had been a long time since Rolex had spoken to me like that. A very long time. He rarely raised his voice at me, rarely sounded displeased. And now, all because of this Lissa girl, he was scolding me again. My hands curled into fists at my sides.“How could I not be bitter?” I snapped before I could stop myself. The words rushed out, fueled by m

KayHe stepped out of his office and paused, as though the corridor itself had shifted while he worked. His tie hung loose around his neck, the knot pulled down and crooked, the top buttons of his shirt undone. His hair was rough from the countless times he had run his fingers through it, frustration and focus tangling it into something unintentionally attractive. The building was quiet. The kind of quiet that only existed when time had slipped past without permission. It was late, much later than he realized. Earlier, he had shut the blinds that separated his office from the adjoining one. The glass wall had become a liability and he didn’t need another distraction. Not after Ruby. So he had worked. Buried himself in reports, projections and contracts…anything that kept his eyes off the woman sitting just beyond the glass.Which was why he hadn’t known she was still here, until he saw her. She was slumped over her desk, her head resting sideways on a neat stack of files. One arm w

KayTaking the public elevator when he could easily have used the private one was a habit Kay never bothered to explain. It was inefficient, inconvenient, and often loud…but in a strange way, it grounded him. Standing shoulder to shoulder with employees who didn’t bow or whisper his name felt like therapy. For a few minutes each morning, he wasn’t the president of the company. He was just another man heading to work. That morning, the elevator was empty when he stepped in.The doors slid shut with a soft thud, and the car began its steady ascent. Kay loosened his tie slightly, exhaling through his nose as his eyes stayed fixed on the changing floor numbers. Silence filled the space…but it was brief. The elevator slowed.A soft ding echoed, and the doors opened.Kay lifted his gaze lazily, already preparing himself for the usual rush of bodies and noise. What he wasn’t prepared for was the face staring back at him.Ava…he recalled her name. For a split second, his mind stalled. She s

MiaHis eyes met mine for a brief moment, and in that instant, I saw everything he was trying so hard to hide. Fear and worry. The kind that crawled under the skin and refused to leave. His brows pulled together sharply as if he was fighting a storm inside his head. Then he took a few long strides toward me and sat at the edge of the hospital bed, his hand immediately coming up to caress my hair in slow, careful strokes, as though I might break if he touched me too roughly.Only then did he turn to the doctor.“What’s the update on her condition?” he asked, his voice steady, and my heart leaped painfully in my chest, fear shot through me like lightning.“She…” the doctor began.“No.” I cut in quickly, my voice louder than I intended, clear with panic. My eyes flicked briefly to the doctor, silently begging him to stop, to say nothing more. “I’m pregnant with twins,” I said hurriedly, filling the space before the truth could escape his lips. “It was just discovered after they ran the
