**Anonymous POV

Rachel Valemont had given up ‘trying’ a long time ago. She’d settled into the reality that she would never be a good mother to her daughter, and at some point, she had simply stopped trying. What was the need? At the end she only got Tessa’s hopes up, only to disappoint her.

“I don’t want to remember how much of a failure you’ve been,” Tessa had told her. And the truth was, Rachel had earned those words—every harsh, brutal thing thrown at her was well deserved. Still, it had surprised her to hear those words from her daughter. Maybe because the loving daughter she’d known would never say that to her face. Tessa was changing, or maybe she’d just finally had enough.

She could have stayed back; she could have stayed with her daughter, but she didn’t, and the moment she walked out of that door, she knew there was no turning back. It wasn’t going to be like the other times she would beg and plead for forgiveness, and Tessa, ever the loving daughter, would let her back into

  • The Beta and The Lost Heiress   Chapter Fifty Five

If I had any tears left to shed, I would’ve drowned in them. But now, I just sat there—numb, yet strangely lighter.“She was not always like this, you know. I hardly remember those times, but I know they were there. I dream about them sometimes, but that’s all they feel like—dreams, distant dreams.”“Tessa…” Wraith began, almost like he didn’t know the right words to say. He settled on the words, “I’m sorry this happened to you.”But I didn’t miss the rage—the anger flashing in his eyes. I didn’t miss his fist clenching so hard that his already bruised knuckles turned white. He wasn’t mad at me, though; it was like he was mad at himself. He stepped back, running his hands through his hair.I could see how hard he was trying—trying to comfort me, but he just didn’t know how.I closed the distance between us and gently wrapped my hands around his, still clenched into fists. I didn’t think he even realized they were. But now, he slowly uncurled them, flexing his fingers. My hands trailed

  • The Beta and The Lost Heiress   Chapter Fifty Four

CHAPTER FIFTY FOURI was back in the apartment I grew up in. The small house held many memories, many good memories, and also equally bad ones.I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t want to remember. But I had to—just this once.Dan was a drunk—just like my mother. He wasn’t the first man she brought into our home, and he certainly wasn’t the last. I always made sure to steer clear of my mother’s 'partners.' So, whenever she came back with one of them, I stayed in my room. Usually, they were gone by morning, and I could go on pretending I didn’t hear all the screams and sex noises. This time was different, though. Dan hadn’t left. He was slouched on the living room couch, watching some boring sport on the old box TV. Two empty beer bottles sat on the table in front of him.He spotted me before I could return back to my room.“Hey there, little angel.” He whispered, his voice soft, but his eyes betrayed that falsity. The wicked look in those brown orbs was difficult to miss. “What’s your

As a child, I used to wonder why I wasn’t given a caring, loving parent like so many others had — why I was given someone like Rachel as a mother. But growing up taught me to stop bawling in self-pity and take the reins, because no one else was going to do it for me.“How much is the debt?”“Twenty-five thousand.”“What?”“It’s a huge sum, I know, but I need the money.”“Twenty-five thousand? What did you do — loan a warehouse full of weed? How am I supposed to come up with that kind of money tonight?”“I’m sure you’ve made friends here. Perhaps you could ask a few of them,” she suggested, and I couldn’t help the sudden disgust I felt.Rachel looked even thinner, if that was even possible. I didn’t even know how she managed to get in as one of the breeders.“Wait here.” I gritted and walked to the door. I paused. “And don’t you dare steal anything.” I said before walking away..I knocked at the door to Angelina’s home, and she opened so quickly that it felt like she was waiting behin

I led my mother back into my room.“I’m so sorry, baby, this was never my intention—”“You know what? I don’t want to hear your apology or excuses anymore. The fact that I brought you in doesn’t mean I forgive you for what you did to me.”She nodded slowly. “I understand.”“But I want to know, why did you do it, Mom? Why did you betray me? Why did you turn back on your own words… why?”“I—have no answers to those. I tried, Tessa, believe me. I tried to quit, I tried to be a better person, but … I failed. I couldn’t do it.”Inhaling deeply, I choose to let go of the past memories, because I knew it would do no good.“How did you find me?”“I didn’t; I was brought here. I convinced one of the pack members that I was a breeder, and they brought me in.”“You know about… werewolves?”She chuckled. “Yes, I do. Let’s say I poked my nose in the wrong place and I discovered somethings I would rather not know.”The idea flashed through my mind. Maybe my mother knew the truth about the will and

The funeral ended, and I returned to Wraith’s wing. After he slipped away earlier, I hadn’t seen so much as a glimpse of him. Now I sat on the couch, awaiting his return.I finally heard footsteps coming down the hall. My chest tightened with anticipation—but then Natasha came into view.“You again.” I muttered beneath my breath.“No need for the stink eye, human. There’s someone here that you might want to meet.”“Who is it?” I questioned“Why don’t you see for yourself?” She said before turning and leaving. My curiosity got the best of me, and after a slight moment of hesitation. I followed after her. She walked ahead of me, like she didn’t want to be seen with me.After ten minutes of walking, just when I was about to question if this was some kind of a trap, I heard the voice.“I’m not going anywhere till I see my baby—you can’t keep me away from her!” a familiar voice argued. My mother.A few more steps and she came into view.I stood there, frozen to spot. Natasha had long aband
