WRAITH’S POV

A bottle of whiskey sat before me. No matter how much I drank, it wasn’t enough—no amount could dull this ache inside me.

Gods, she really thought me a monster, and maybe she was right. I’d shot her and thrown her into a cell. She might have betrayed me, but in the end, the Nightshade potion had saved me. I never thanked her for that.

I’d kept the truth from her—to protect her. That was my excuse. But the real reason? I was afraid that if she ever found out, she wouldn’t feel the same way. And I was right.

Last night, for the first time, she’d seen me for what I truly was: an animal, a beast, and a monster.

I heard the footsteps. Jake was supposed to meet me here, in my wing, in a few minutes—but I didn’t need to look to know it wasn’t him. It was Natasha.

I poured myself another glass of whisky, deciding to ignore her.

“You’re mad at me, aren’t you?” she asked. And though I wasn’t looking, I knew there’d be a smile on her face. “You shouldn’t be. In fact, you should be t

Rex guided me past the manor and around to the back.Once again, I was astonished. The land stretched out vast and open, but unlike the elegance of the front, this place was much… different. For one, there were a lot of people present. Wolves, I could tell.“This is the pack’s training ground, though more demanding exercises take place in a clearing deeper in the woods,” he informed me. I counted about five training rings. In each, two members faced off, their movements nothing short of graceful. While others kept busy with different exercises, some were punching at wooden dummies, others lifting hefty weights, and a few firing arrows into target boards. In one of the rings was Jet—the guy I’d met in the woods. He seemed to be getting the upper hand against his opponent, landing punch after punch with precision at him.“Do they enjoy getting beaten up?” I asked, curious.“Partially, yes, though they’d much rather win the fight. But you should know—werewolves heal fast.”“That’s why y

Danika’s POVAfter taking a bath, I dressed in simple blue jeans and a dark brown shirt. I walked to the door and, just as I did every other day, I tried the handle. The door was… unlocked. It had never been left that way, not once since I arrived here—except during the maid’s visits. Once, I had even planned to overpower her and escape, but I’d hesitated, wondering if, like Rex, she was a werewolf. If that were true, then there was no way I could overpower her.I walked out of the room.Had they forgotten to lock the doors? My mind drifted to the conversation I had with Rex only yesterday. Could this have been done deliberately? The stairs were easy to find, and the continuous staircase was sure to lead to the ground floor. I couldn’t understand how anyone could walk up and down them multiple times a day. It felt and looked like pure torture. On my way down, I spotted several uniformed men, dressed just like the ones who’d been standing by the dining room entry earlier. I didn’t miss

“How do you know about all of these?” I questioned. “Were you a part of this secret society?”“No. I was the Alpha, and your parents, being good people, came clean to me. They made me swear that I’ll never utter a word about it to a single soul. But if I’d known. If I had known that because of them, I’d lose everything, then I would have sent them away when I had the chance. I should never have allowed them to stay.”My parents—my mother, whom I’d believed couldn’t hurt a fly, and my father, who was all about honor—I couldn’t imagine it. And yet, I knew there was truth in his words. My parents had been the reason the pack had been destroyed. My father didn’t lose his leg serving the pack; he lost it escaping the same organization he co-founded.“They could have just given him the serum; Cellise pack would still have been standing if they just handed it to him.” Terrian said, unable to hide his bitterness. “And so, when I realized I had lost, I ran away like a coward, with my tail bet

Alpha Terrain was barely recognizable. The youthful look I remembered was gone; grey streaks lined his hair, his frame had lost its definition, but his eyes told the whole story—he’d given up.“When I received your letter, I still had my doubts. Perhaps it wasn’t you at all, but someone else, because everyone, including me, believed you were already dead.”“I really don’t think anyone cares whether I’m dead or alive. The day my pack was destroyed, my story ended alongside it.”“There were survivors, Terrian. Boys like me, some girls, the elderly, the injured—the helpless. In the chaos, no one knew what to do. We were scattered. The boys taken by rogues, the girls… god only knows what befell them. And all that time, you were alive.”“I did not come here so you could tell me what I already know. I know I failed them all, I know I’d been a coward, and I got my own fair share of punishment for my actions. I’m here because I want to speak to you on an important matter. It’s about your pa

Wraith's POVI stared at the letter, signed by the name Alpha Terrain.“I guess I'd assumed he died alongside the pack soldiers.” I said to Jake.Alpha Terrain had been the Alpha of the Cellise Pack, the pack where I’d spent my childhood, until Falcone attacked and reduced it to ashes.“And all these years, he never showed his face; he made everyone believe the same thing. I'll say he's a coward.”Jake was right. Terrain should have died alongside his soldiers, that’s what being an Alpha meant. He could have faced Falcone, but instead he hid to save his own neck, while his soldiers fought the battle.Still, I couldn't help but wonder why he was reaching out after all these years.“Arrange a meeting. Invite him to the pack; I think I need to hear what is so important he had given up hiding to send this letter.”Jake nodded before leaving.*I'd been heading back to my wing when I spotted two pack soldiers engaged in a heated argument.“I warned you to stay away from my sister!” the fir

Days passed, and Rex stayed away. A maid brought me food three times a day, asking the same question each time she visited: 'Do you need anything else?' My response was always the same: 'No.'Today though, as she walked in with the tray, I stopped her.“I want to see Rex.”“The Alpha is a bit… pre-occupied right now.”Alpha? Like as in Alpha wolf?“Could you just let him know that I’d like to dine with him tonight?”“Of course,” she said, before leaving.I waited anxiously for her return. Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Perhaps Rex had turned her down. Perhaps she never even conveyed the message…My thoughts were cut off when the maid returned.“The Alpha would like to meet you now.” She picked up my tray of food, before leading the way.I was going to leave the room I’d been locked in for the first time. As I walked beside her, my eyes darted to every window and every possible passageway. Finally, she stopped before a huge double door. Two men stood on either side, dressed in matchi
