JAKE’S POV

I’d been about to leave my office for the day when the phone call came in.

A smile spread across my lips when I realized it was Angelina. Guilt still lingered over the things I’d said to her. I knew how much she wanted a child, and I’d called it desperation—even though it was the same dream most werewolf females shared. I had no right to say that.

I picked up the call.

“Hey babe—”

“Jake, it’s Sophia,” came the voice on the line, and my smile vanished. But something in her tone made me pause—she sounded… scared. Instantly, I was on alert.

“Where is Angelina?”

“I—I… I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault…” she sobbed. She said more, but through the crying, I couldn’t make out a word.

“Sophia, where is Angelina?” I questioned again.

“They took her…”

I didn’t need to hear any more.

I sprinted out of my office and headed towards the main entrance. I ignored all the curious stares from pack members and alarmed pack soldiers now following after me to know what the emergency was about.

TESSA’S POVI’d woken up to realize Wraith wasn’t on the bed. He was by the floor-to-ceiling window, speaking calmly into the phone in his hand, but the hard look in his eyes told me there was nothing calm about the conversation he was having with the person on the other end.He was in nothing but his briefs, and I couldn’t stop my gaze from trailing lower. It took everything in me to look away and focus on the tension in his shoulders.I watched the slight tightening of his jaw, something he always did when he was annoyed. He finally ended the call, tossing his phone on the table before turning to me. He managed to put on a smile, but I could see through it.“Did I wake you?” he asked as he returned to my side on the bed.“No. You didn’t.”I couldn’t even hear a word of what he’d said to the caller. In times like this, werewolf hearing did come in handy.“Did you enjoy your sleep?” he asked, placing a kiss on my lips and then my forehead.“I did.” I admitted, blushing at the memory

ANGELINA’S POVI woke up on the floor of an unfamiliar room. My hands were bound with silver cuffs, and a collar had been fastened around my neck, chained to the wall to restrict my movement. My injuries had healed up, but my hair was still clumped with dried blood, and the sharp metallic stench was hard to ignore.I looked around. The white paint on the walls had aged, chipped, and stained. There was a single couch in the middle of the room, and there Sophia sat. Still dressed in my clothes.“You’re awake!” she noted.“What am I doing here, Sophia?”“Angel—may I call you that?” she questioned, but I gave her no response. “I’ll take that as a yes. The thing is, you’ve been deceived.”“Who are you?”“I’m your downfall. The thing about you werewolves is that you believe humans are way below your leagues—you can’t even view them as threats. Perhaps that’s what Diana saw when she employed me.”“Diana Callister?”“Yes, Angel. Callister. She’s the reason you’re here.”“How could you?”“Oh,

**DIANA—THIRD POV**With Falcone, sex had felt more like a duty. Perhaps that’s why she never really enjoyed it. It had always been about the performance and pleasing him.Now she lay naked on the bed, with Joffrey—Falcone’s cousin—between her legs. She didn’t exactly have feelings for this man. She’d made a vow to herself to never give her heart to any man; no man deserved it.Joffrey was different, though; she cared about him, and that was as far as she could ever go with any man. She cared, but not enough to risk her own skin for his life—just enough to want him by her side at all times.Diana fisted his hair, letting out a moan as he skillfully used his tongue on her.He knew exactly how to please a woman, and she had been denied pleasure for a long time. She had met Joffrey during a business meeting and had been instantly drawn to him. It had been one of those days she felt the urge to go a little wild. She had winked at him, even with Falcone there, then excused herself to the r

ANGELINA’S POV“Hey, Angel,” Jake called the moment I stepped into his office. The nickname still sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach.“You called for me?” I asked, moving toward his desk.“Yes, there’s something we need to talk about,” he said, as I perched on the edge of the table, facing him. “It’s about Sophia. I… don’t really trust her.”There was something in his voice that told me he was being serious. “Did she do something wrong?”“She just really gives me this weird feeling.I think it was a mistake letting her stay in our wing; she should live amongst other breeders.”“But she’s having our child; if she’s closer, we could watch over her better.”“She doesn’t need to live in our wing for that, Angel. There are plenty of nurses down there, and she’ll be fine. We can visit, but I don’t think we should let her stay.”“Jake, what’s going on?”“Nothing. I just don’t like the idea of sharing our personal space with some… stranger.”That was a very un-Jake-like thing to say.

Logan’s gaze locked on me. “What’s he doing here?”“I’m the mate, have you forgotten?” Wraith questioned, not bothering to hide his jealousy.Werewolves had sharper senses; they could pick up scents easily. Which meant he knew exactly what we’d done in this room.“I see you’ve made your decision,” Logan muttered, more to himself than to me. “I’m happy for you, Tessa,” he said, with a small smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.“I’m sorry, Logan. But you were right.”He nodded slowly. “I guess I was.How are you feeling?”“Good as new.”“No injuries.” He noted.“I was lucky; Wraith came with a healing potion.”“What exactly happened?”“Kelvin happened. He must’ve been sent, but I wasn’t the one he was after. So… he brought me here. Kept apologizing the whole time.”“Prehaps I was the one he was after, it was my car after all, I should have been the one in it.But it’s clear he wasn’t very well informed on how to kill werewolves,—it requires a little more than a common car crash.”“Wh
