Jack’s POV It has been hours since they took Sarah away. I felt our bond waiver a few times and at least I knew she was continuing to fight to live. Fight to survive. It was not right. Josie POV Sam and I had gone back to our room in the Pack house after the first day of waiting. Jack and Lucas would not leave so we brought clothes and food for them. We were into day three of waiting for some type of movement from either Sarah or Daniel. Nothing had happened so far. Sarah was not shocking that it was taking her time to heal; however, Daniel had the medical staff perplexed. For some reason he was simply not waking up. He had no obvious physical ailments. Daniel POV I could hear everyone around me. Most importantly I heard everything Lucas has said to me. I could not understand why I was not able to wake up and communicate with Lucas. I wanted to hold him and assure him I was not angry with him. None of this was his fault. This – whatever it was – was bigger than all of us. It was only this morning that I had become aware that I was being injected with something. Emma had spoken to me this morning while she injected me with a fast-acting drug that continued to keep me in limbo. Sarah POV The Pack doctor rushed into my room and checked my vitals. I simply sat and stared at Jack. Stared into his eyes. “Well Sarah, it looks like you are back,” the Pack doctor says as I simply turn and smile at him. I still had a really dry throat but was drinking water slowly so as not to upset my stomach. Jack simply held onto my hand, holding it to his lips waiting impatiently for the Pack doctor to leave. As soon as he did, Jack was in the bed with me holding me tightly in his arms. Nobody else had come yet, “I have not told them you are awake yet. I want a few minutes with you to myself,” he says. I smile and snuggle in closer. I am still tired, but finally awake. “When can I leave?” I whisper. Jack smiles at me, “As soon as the doc gives the go ahead, I am breaking you out of here,” he promises me. ‘I should be able to go home today, nothing left for me to do but recuperate,” I remind him as he simply holds me tighter.

Lucas POV “What the hell are you doing here?” I ask Alpha Thomas. Alpha Thomas spares me a brief glance before walking toward Daniel. I step in front of him. “I will not hurt your mate, Lucas. Stand down,” Thomas says as he walks around me to stand by Daniel. I grab his arm pulling him away from my mate. “Anything you need to say can be said across the room. You will have to excuse me. One attempt on his life by the Wolf Council is all I am willing to tolerate,” I growl at him. He looks at me in surprise. “What are you talking about?” he snarls at me equally pissed off. I look to Daniel who nods. “One of your own tried to inject poison into Daniel. Her goal was to make us believe he was dead so she could take him back to the Council, was what she advised us before I killed her,” I reply darkly. “Who?” Thomas asks. “Emma,” Daniel forces out. “Emma? Lucas POV I sat there in stunned silence as I watched Daniel walk out the door and out of my life. I knew logically it was for only a short period of time, but my fear for him and the mission he was about to embark was tense. I did not know all the players. I did not know who Daniel could trust. Josie POV Jenna and I had been driving for about an hour when she indicated we were almost to her old Pack, the Black Crescent Pack. Throughout the entire situation, I had never forgotten that I was told about a letter my birth mother had left for me. Jenna and I shared a mother, so I approached the subject with Jenna. Once I reminded Jenna about the letter, she immediately wanted to go and retrieve it for me. I would not allow her to go alone, so we were on our way together. Of course, we had warriors with us.
