Jack POV “What?” I ask confused and scared. I only wanted to know the good news. The bad news sounded ominous. “Oh Jack, the baby is safe for now;” Jenna says apologetically. “I did not mean to scare you,” she adds. “And Sarah?” I ask with my heart in my throat. “Sarah is fine. The bad news is she will need to stay on bed rest for at least a month,” she replies. I look at her incredulously. “That is the bad news? I would say that is great news,” I reply feeling excitement once again for our future. Jenna smirks at me, “You obviously have not been around a pregnant she-wolf before. Sarah will go crazy having to stay in bed for a month … well hopefully it will only be a month of bed rest,” she shares with me. “Why does she need bedrest?” Josie asks curiously. “We had to put stiches in to help keep the baby inside her. We need her to carry as close to term as possible,” Jenna says. You could tell she was worried, “So she needs bed rest? S
Sam POV Fuck! I handled that perfectly. Why could Josie not see that she was just as valuable as anyone else? It was like she was continually trying to prove herself. Or prove that she was worthy or maybe that she was not as important as everyone else. I did not know the answer in this moment, but I did know that she had more than just herself to think about. Our pup deserved to grow up and have two parents who loved him. I slam the door harder than I intended to and instantly had a mind-link from Adam. “Everything okay down there?” he asks. “Everything will be fine – sorry to disturb you Alpha,” I reply showing respect when I was not very respectful. “Hey, our rooms are soundproofed – how did you hear that?” I ask as an afterthought. “Just on my way down to get some snacks for my mate,” he says with a chuckle. I chuckle as well and sign off wishing him a good night. I tug off my clothes and move to have a shower hoping to cool off bef
Sarah POV It was day five on bedrest. I do not think I will survive any longer. Jack is acting like a mother hen. I cannot breathe without Jack calling Jenna to check on me. Even she is getting frustrated with his panic attacks. I get it. I am terrified as well and doing everything that has been asked of me. Jack’s panic is just adding a tad more stress to the situation. I finally got him to leave me alone for five minutes when someone knocks on the door. I sigh, “Come in Josie,” I reply as I see her wave a white tissue. “I hear you have had a rough morning?” Josie asks as she steps into the bedroom with a sympathetic smile. “I only had a rough morning because of my mate!” I reply in frustration. Nodding, “I understand Sarah, but try to see it from his view. He was there when he thought he was going to lose both of you. He will settle down soon enough,” Josie says wisely. “I know, I know, but I cannot take much more. I want to be doing
Josie POV Things had been suspiciously quiet for the past two weeks. Crickets. Nothing was happening. No more border attacks. No sign of our mother. Simply nothing. Jack had identified the warriors who had been bribed by the Council to leave an opening for access to the territory. Needless to say, after the relevant information was obtained from them, they were destroyed. They would never be trusted again. Sarah was adjusting to her life on bedrest. I kept her time filled with files and discussing scenarios that we would use to keep Jenna safe, if the need arose. Even with Sarah on bedrest she was proving to be an asset to the team. We have both hit our needy points in our pregnancies. It is a total piss off for Sarah as Jack avoids her like the plague, but Sam and I are quite enjoying the time as I tease her mercilessly. Jenna is getting closer to her delivery date. Everything has been going perfectly for her, but she is anxious to del
Josie POV “Who is coming?” I murmur to Jenna as we stand there watching our mother try to get some rest. The doctor had been in twice to adjust her pain medications and to try and help her rest. Her main concern was us and whoever was coming for us. Sam and Adam had joined us after the first warning from our mother. Since then, she had woken up two more times to warn us. We tried to assure her we were fine and were watching for an attack. She just became more distraught. “You will not know when they arrive,” she says as the doctor administered more drugs that would calm her down. Her blood pressure was high, on top of her other ailments. For a wolf to have high blood pressure, it had to be severe. As she finally settled, Sam pulled me into his arms. “No matter what, you go no place by yourself,” he says to me. I nod as I rest my head against his shoulder. Jack went to Sarah immediately to ensure she was protected. We had increased warrior
Sam POV I grab Josie’s hand and tug her behind me. “Adam, where are you?” I mind-link my Alpha wanting to ensure his safety. “We are locked inside the hospital room. I cannot take Jenna from here. She cannot shift,” Adam mind-links me back. “We will come to you through the window,” I reply quickly. “No, take Josie to the secure bunker. We need to ensure your safety. If anything happens to us, you and Josie will run the Red Pine Pack,” he says coldly before closing our mind-link. Josie had heard the conversation and I see tears well up in her eyes. She had just found out she had a sister and was going to potentially lose her. “Come on babe, we have to go,” I say to Josie as I open the window and do a quick scan to ensure no threat is around us. Helping Josie out the window, we both shift and take off toward the secret bunker. I do not see any chaos outside the Pack hospital. In fact, there is no visible attack on the Pack. What the hell?
Josie POV As I land in front of them, I swipe at the closest man and my claws rip into his side. His intestines start to spill out of his body. He quickly shifts but not fast enough to stop his imminent death. I turn slowly towards the other man as he simply stands there. “I want to take you in peacefully, Josie,” he reiterates as we stand off looking at one another. Not wanting to waste time, I leap at him as he tosses me off him still not shifting. I go again to attack him, and he punches me in the chest cracking a bone. I realize quickly I am going to exhaust myself before he even attempts to shift. My thoughts are erratic as my only goal is to get to Sam. Refocusing I step back, and we stare at one another. I consider taking another leap, but I decide against it. He is positioned to receive my next attack. He still has not shifted and I need him to shift to allow Alexis, my wolf, to take over and fight to get us free. Looking behind hi
Jack POV Within the hospital there was chaos. Doctors were yelling for nurses to come help with patients – specifically Adam and Sam. They were still trying to save Adam from the poison coursing through his veins. And Sam they were trying to stop the bleeding. His wolf, Chance, was doing what he could to help but these wounds had happened in Sam’s human form and that would require more doctor intervention. I am pacing between rooms when I see Josie running around the corner. I stop her grabbing her up in my arms, “He is still alive, Jack. I have not felt the bond break,” Josie says repeatedly. “They are working on him Josie. Just sit here,” I say pointing to a chair in the hall. “No, I want to be with him,” she says shakily as she tries to get around me. “You will just get in the way. Sit your ass down and do what you are told, for once!” I yell at her. I had not intended to be so harsh, but I was feeling the pressure of both the alpha and
