Laura's POV

We were having dinner at one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city.

The crystal chandeliers sparkled overhead, soft classical music played in the background, and our table had a perfect view of the city skyline.

It was a picture of bliss. Me, Jaime, and the children looked like the perfect little family.

Except it wasn't perfect at all.

Sara was struggling with her bib, the fabric twisted around her neck in a way that was probably uncomfortable. I leaned over, gently untangling it and securing it properly.

"There you go, sweetheart," I said, smoothing her hair.

"Thank you, Mommy," Sara said sweetly.

Across the table, Jaime was completely absorbed in his phone, clearly not present mentally despite sitting right there.

Michael was eating his pasta, his face was blank.

I cleared my throat loudly. "Can I have everyone's attention, please?"

Jaime barely glanced up. Michael continued eating. Only Sara looked at me with her big eyes.
