Aurora’s POV

The next morning, as soon as I finished dressing up, I got a knock on the door. To my surprise, as soon as I opened the door, I saw a guard, bearing the crest of the Council.

My heart skipped a beat but I tried my best to remain calm. Why was the Council coming to me?

The Elders and I rarely had interactions save for important events like the full moon festival.

“Luna,” the guard bowed. “The Elders wish to see you this morning in the meeting hall.”

A familiar feeling of dread sprea

Aurora’s POVThe amusement came unbidden with his words which he flung at me like an accusation I never signed up for.The hallway was blessedly quiet, free outside eyes. And I felt like laughing at my husband.Alaric was a damn hypocrite. He stared at me with slightly wide eyes, the anger still visible in his expression.I chuckled again, thinking of his words, of how much he seemed to blame me for everything.“Alaric, You don’t do that at all. You only treat her like your beloved in private. You let her sleep in our marital bed. You let her fall into your arms, you let her cook for you and make comments about your proper mate while saying nothing."I crossed my arms, watching his expression shutter.“And,” I continued with a sneer on my lips. “You let her wear my clothes, heirloom jewelry, and prance around like the Luna of the pack while your wife focuses on treating the patients, handling her duties while fighting to heal our son.”His jaw clenched.“That’s not fair,” he said, gri

Alaric’s POVThe hospital ward was filled with the scent of disinfectant, sterile and cold, with faint traces of blood that reminded me of the reasons that I was here.I grit my teeth, unable to stop thinking of the way Aurora stood way too close to that man.Was she trying to make a point to me? Make me jealous? If so, it was working. And I loathed it. This game of hers, was dangerous. She had no idea what she was getting into.Whatever Doctor Evan said, most of his words were unwittingly tuned out. Instead, what my mind could focus on was Aurora. Her scent was so close, barely two arm’s length from me.I recalled Seraphina’s words from this afternoon. I had somehow spilled to her about the friend Aurora had brought with her.And she had said, “She’s only trying to get your attention. It couldn't possibly be an affair… right?”Those words had sent a wave of sharp pangs through my body, and a sense of anger and frustration welled up.The truth was, I didn't know.Aurora, having an aff

Aurora’s POV“Don’t you think you laid it on too thick there?” Lyra asked that afternoon as I returned from lunch with Silas and explained how the day went to her.Asher was eating in a chair, more mobile than he had been in the past couple of days. He didn’t glance at Lyra or me once, focused on relishing his meal of pasta with meatballs. I cast a barrier between us, so he didn't have to listen to us adults talk while he ate, played and rested. The madness of last night seemed to have faded away, and even when he glanced my way, he didn't have any expression on his face. That, at least, was better than having him show hatred to me. My recollection of it still made my smile falter.“What do you mean?’ I inquired of my best friend, looking back at her as she munched on her bagel which I brought to her.“I mean, your friendship with Silas,” Lyra explained, her lips twitching as she tapped my arm. “I know he’s gay, but when you describe it that way it kind of looks like you and he are ha

Aurora’s POVEventually we headed to lunch in the clinic cafeteria.“The food here is incredible,” Silas praised 30 minutes later. He had already finished his pasta, chicken and salad bowl, and now sipped on the orange juice that came with today’s meal. “We don’t get meals like this in my clinic.”“Yeah, I think I heard something like that once from a colleague,” I mused. “The Shadowpine pack spends a lot of money to ensure us doctors and clinic staff are treated well.”“Your pack is the wealthiest, most powerful pack around, Aurora. And I can understand the need. You're Luna after all,” he chuckled, finishing his last bit of orange juice. I kicked his leg under the table and he winced, playing up the pain with a mournful shake of his head.“Thank the Goddess you and I don't work in the same clinic,” I scoffed. “There’s only room for one of us in an entire pack.”“I hear you nearly married Alpha Eric back then” Silas ended up musing aloud. The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable,

Aurora’s POVUpon hearing my words, Alaric’s grip loosened slightly and I pulled my arm out of his grasp, wincing inwardly at how awkward the exchange might have looked to others.Alaric didn't give me a glance, only striding forward with a clenched jaw and his hands flexing in that way he always did when he had something on his mind. I felt he looked like he wanted to strangle someone, but I tried not to think too much about it.I had no idea what might have caused him to act this way but it wasn't my circus, not my monkeys. Instead I waited for Silas to catch up and turned to him.“I’m sure you noticed the symptoms of the warriors in your pack,” I began. “The muscle weakness, for one. So the ingredients for the antidote include something to help give strength.”Silas listened while I began to explain the formulations we decided on and how the test of the antidote on the patients in our clinic went. His eyes gleamed with curiosity as he watched the liquid broth being ladled into seve

Aurora’s POVHead pack doctor? Of the Kyrian Pack? The news hit me like a ton of bricks, but in a good way.Silas stood there, all tall, lean and handsome, a smirk on his face while his expression tilted between pride and embarrassment.I could only gape, then I let out a squeal and hugged him again.“You devil! You didn't even tell me the good news!”The two guards cast me a glance but didn't say anything, keeping themselves wholly out of our way.His chuckle was low, breath fanning my ear.“I was so busy, Aurora. Truly you have to believe me. I swear by the Goddess, I meant to reach out,” he patted my head, the same way he used to whenever he won an argument or got higher scores on our assignments. It always used to infuriate me but this time it brought a smile to my face.I tugged on his arm, excitedly leading him down the hall.“I’m sure you came for something serious instead of just popping by to see me. Doesn’t it take 5 hours of travel to reach here?” I asked while we walked.S
