The Isla humiliation and hate train kept burning strong. With each passing second, a new horrible headline about her dropped. Her hostel was no longer safe, people had broken in and trashed her room. Paintings of her name, smeared with vile remarks, covered every corner of the school hall.

She was too scared to even check her phone. Death threats kept piling up like a semi-truck, but Damien remained untouchable. Instead of losing support, he gained triple.

People painted him as the victim- the man who had almost been sabotaged by an attention-seeking lowlife.

The hate was too much for Isla to bear, so she decided to leave school for the time being.

"Isla, you don’t plan to lock yourself up in there forever, do you?" A familiar voice called from the door. Throughout the nightmare, Priya never left her side.

But Isla wanted to be alone. Nothing could convince her to step outside. At least, that was what she thought- until a thunderous knock nearly rattled the door off its hinges.

That could only be one person.

Cursing under her breath, Isla dragged her tired body out of bed and opened the door. Standing there was a skinny, sharp-featured woman. She was in her mid-forties, but her permanent scowl made her look ten years older.

“You sly brat. The nerve you have to come back here after running off without paying,” the woman seethed, pointing at her like a witch.

“I promise I didn’t run away, ma’am Rohana. I just didn’t have the money. Even while schooling, I’m still trying to find ways to pay you back,” Isla pleaded.

“Oh really?” Rohana sneered, twitching her lips. She stretched out her hand. “Then give me the little money you’ve managed to make.”

Sweat dampened Isla’s forehead. She didn’t have a single coin to show. And even if she tried to give Rohana another excuse, she knew it would only earn her ridicule. Rohana was fed up and Isla knew it.

“For an extra year, I’ve given you time and listened to your lame excuses. But no more. I want you out tonight!” Rohana snapped.

“Ma’am, please…” Isla clasped her hands together in desperation.

“Your pleas and fake tears won’t work this time. I’ve already sold the house to someone else. They’re moving in tomorrow morning. You have until this evening. I don’t want to see you here again!” Rohana didn’t wait for a reply. She stormed off, leaving Isla trembling.

Isla shut her eyes tight, convinced that was enough bad luck for one day. Then her phone pinged. A message notification.

She planned to ignore it, expecting another death threat. But when she saw the familiar heading label, her heart lurched. She quickly opened it.

Greetings Miss Isla, this is a reminder from Unity Medical Center. Your grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Pereira, has outstanding medical bills. Until payment is settled, she will not be able to continue treatment. Please contact our billing office immediately for follow-up.

Isla’s legs nearly gave way. She bolted out of the house and ran as fast as she could toward the hospital. With no money for a taxi, it took her a long while before she finally arrived, breathless and shaken.

“Why aren’t you attending to my grandmother?!” she cried helplessly to a woman at the billing office.

“I’m so sorry, Miss, but we’ve done everything we could for her. Her bills still need to be cleared,” the woman said gently.

“How much is she owing? Please, I’ll see what I can do. Just treat her... she’s my only family.” Isla’s face was drenched with tears. If anything happened to her grandma, she knew she would never forgive herself.

“She’s owing ten thousand dollars,” the woman informed her.

Isla nearly fainted on the spot.

She didn’t even have a penny, not enough to buy a piece of candy, let alone ten thousand dollars. Where on earth was she supposed to find such money?

Her phone began ringing. An unknown number. She instantly assumed it was another threat from the school, so she declined the call and slumped onto a chair, trying to process everything.

The phone rang again. She declined it, blood boiling.

When it rang a third time, she lost her patience.

“Listen, I don’t know who you are. Leave me alone, okay? Stop bothering my life already! I already have so much to deal with and I don't care about some stupid video on the internet. My grandmother is dying in the hospital, and I don’t even have the money to pay for her treatment and I don't even have a place to stay because I was kicked out of my house. Leave me alone!” Her voice cracked as she screamed into the phone.

The caller stayed calm, waiting for her to finish venting.

“I’m sorry you’re going through all that,” a gentle male voice replied. “But I’m here to bless you with some good news… if I’m really speaking with Miss Isla Pereira.”

Isla blinked in confusion. “Who are you? And how do you know my name?”

“My name is Graham. I am the butler of the late Mr. Harold Khan. He passed away a few weeks ago, but he left everything he owned to you- his estate, his business, his wealth. I’d like us to meet so we can finalize this.”

Isla furrowed her brows, stunned. “With all due respect, sir, I’m already going through too much. If you’re trying to scam me, I’m sorry to inform you, you won’t get a thing from me,” she said firmly.

“I understand it’s hard to believe,” Graham sighed. “But there’s no other way to prove it. You said your grandmother is in the hospital. Send me the hospital account details. I’ll settle the bill, then you’ll know I’m telling the truth.”

It sounded absurd. But Isla had nothing left to lose. If he was a scammer, then at least he couldn’t steal what she didn’t have.

With trembling fingers, she sent him the account details.

Seconds later, a screenshot arrived in her inbox.

It was the proof of payment.

Sent.

Gareth, on the receiving end, went silent for a few seconds before asking as though he didn’t already know the answer.“Who are you with?”Isla blinked twice. She stared quickly at Damien, catching his mischievous smile for a split second. “I’m with Mr. Da Silva. We’re working.”Gareth went silent for the second time, then cleared his throat. “Then I should leave you to work.”Isla gasped, wanting to speak, but Gareth had already hung up. She held the phone to her ear for a few seconds, as if he was still on the line with her.“Sheesh, he’s such a gentleman. He clearly wants to talk to you but must let you work,” Damien’s voice rang, immediately sending anger through her.She glared at him, her eyes sharp as a blade. “I don’t know what your intentions are, but get something straight, Damien. We have absolutely nothing to talk about. You’ve done more than enough, and you should thank your fucking stars that I haven’t sued you!” She hit the table as she stood up, angrily picking up her

"I feel like I haven't apologized enough about that dinner night. If I had known things were going to turn out like they did, I would have done everything I could to stop Dev," Priya apologized to Isla on the phone for the umpteenth time.A soft breath could be heard from Isla on the other end. "It's fine, Priya. I told you I'm not mad at you."Priya pouted her lips, folding herself on her couch. "I just feel like I should have done something to protect you. I'm your best friend.""Priya, you've basically spent all your life trying to protect me, and now I'm in a situation where I can return your favor, so you don't have to worry about that. Besides, it's just business," Isla responded."Really? Gareth isn't mad?" Priya carefully asked, and Isla was silent for a few seconds before answering."He's fine. We’re just very busy at this point."Priya sighed. The silence was enough reason to tell her that things weren’t fine between Isla and Gareth."I have to attend a meeting right now. Go

The morning sun was still hot, and the golden light reflected through the glass window of a spacious building where people dressed in fitness attire could be seen working out.A black pair of trainers followed by strong legs hugged in tight grey leggings and black gym shorts moved around the room. Alexios folded his muscular arms across the tank top that clung to his six-pack as he stared at a huge woman who struggled to lift weights while doing squats."Shoulders... steady your shoulders." He helped guide her hands before nodding. "Good job."He walked to a man lying on a bench and lifting heavy weights, then stood with his arms akimbo, watching him.The opening of the glass door distracted him. Elise walked in alone, which was strange because she usually came with her girlfriend. The reminder sent a small twist through his chest, and he turned his eyes away from her, focusing on the man in front of him."Five more, you can do it!" He clapped, counting down until the man dropped the

The dinner was over. Isla and Gareth stayed silent on the car ride back home. That tension was there again, and this time it was tighter than before. Gareth didn’t look at her; his strong gaze was fixed ahead, and he wasn’t trying to hide his unhappiness.“Hunn…” Isla called softly, but there was no response from him.“Are you going to ignore me like this? Shouldn't we at least talk?” Isla tried again, but it was in vain. Gareth pulled out his phone and started tapping the screen like she wasn't even there.Isla sighed. “Hunn, please…”Gareth finally looked at her, his eyes burning. “You couldn’t just say no, Isla?” His tone was cold and carried a hint of irritation.Isla? He just called her by her name. He’d never done that before.“I said yes, Gareth. What’s the big deal? It’s just business, and I was put on the spot!” Isla defended herself. She was getting offended, though her voice was still calm.“What’s the big deal?" Gareth looked at her almost unbelievably. " It’s just busines

The grand ballroom was decorated with glowing chandeliers and golden drapes. Everything about the room screamed wealth, from the shiny glass walls and marble floors to the crystal centerpieces glistening under the soft amber lights. The scent of champagne and expensive perfumes filled the space, while soft classical music drifted from the live orchestra.A massive banner stretched across the entrance: “Welcome to the Echelon Dinner.”Expensive cars rolled to a stop at the parking lot as some of the world’s most powerful names; CEOs, tycoons, investors, influencers, and celebrities, all dressed to impress, walked hand in hand to the entrance.Business chatter filled the room as seconds passed.Isla and Gareth arrived at the venue. Isla was dressed in an elegant silver gown adorned with crystals, while Gareth wore a tailored suit with a rose tucked into his chest pocket. They posed for pictures on the red carpet before Gareth gently led Isla inside. The private jet touched down on the London runway, and the stairs rolled down for Gareth and Isla to step out, followed by their bodyguards carrying the luggage. The melting blue sky was drizzling. A black umbrella was handed to Gareth, which he used to cover Isla as they made their way to the black SUV waiting for them.During the quiet ride, Isla faced the window, watching the streets pass by while listening to the soft sound of the drizzle. A warm hand pressed on her legs; turning to the side, she was greeted by Gareth’s smiling face. She mirrored his smile and rested her head on his shoulder. Soon, the ride came to a halt at a building. Gareth led Isla out of the car and guided her inside the house.“You like it?” he asked with a proud smile.Isla chuckled happily as she rubbed her cold fingers together. The house was cozy and simple, giving her a nostalgic yet safe feeling, like the life she used to have.“I figured you might want a little break from shining jewelry, so I made su
