Zebulunia’s POV

The moment I picked up the phone, I turned off the cooker and walked away from Damon toward the luxurious dining room beside the kitchen. I needed privacy. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught him smirking before he headed upstairs.

His eyes were a jerk. And what he did to me… unacceptable.

But I didn't know how come it had so much control over me..... I wanted everything he did.

Gosh.... stop this

The call ended, but I still held the phone in my hand, staring at the screen like I was sure she would call again.

My body had calmed down, my nipples no longer betraying me. Regret started to creep in—regret for the closeness, the moans I never expected to let slip. Holy shit.

That feeling was strange. Weird. I wanted…

Then the phone rang again.

Amber.

I hesitated for a few seconds before answering. What I heard caught me off guard. She was sobbing. My chest tightened instantly.

“Amber, what is it?” I asked quickly.

She didn’t answer right away. “Nothing, Zee, I’m alright.” She used that nickname—the one she’d always called me for years. The one that used to make me feel special, but a few days ago, it disgusted me.

I remembered it all too clearly—the kiss, the betrayal.

I stayed quiet, waiting for her to continue.

“I want to speak to you personally.”

“What is it?” I snapped, my voice too sharp, my anger still raw.

“Can we meet tomorrow, please?” she asked, her voice calm, almost scared I’d refuse. “I know you don’t trust me. I know you’re angry. But please… I have something important to tell you about Ethan.”

Ethan? My curiosity lit up. Could it be connected to the attack?

“Fine,” I said coldly. “I’ll send you the location. Tomorrow. Two p.m.”

“Alright.” I could hear the relief, the happiness in her voice.

I hated it—but I missed her.

The call ended, and I stared blankly at the wall. I wasn’t going to tell Damon. Not this. He’d only try to block it. I really don't know, but he behaves strangely anytime I mentioned Amber.

I walked back into the kitchen, poured the medicine drinto a glass, and carried it upstairs.

I hope this won't be another crazy night.

The next day, the atmosphere was cool and quiet.

“So tell me,” I said coldly, my eyes fixed on Amber across the table. “What’s the real reason for this meeting?”

She looked different. Her curly hair was pulled into a ponytail, making her look vulnerable, soft. Beautiful even. For a moment, I wondered if I was overthinking it.

The place I’d picked was private, quiet, far from the house. No Damon. No eyes.

“First of all,” she began, her voice shaking slightly, “I want to apologize… for what you saw last time.”

The scene flashed in my mind again. My stomach turned. I never expected it—especially from her.

“I’m sorry,” she continued. “I went too far kissing your supposed groom. It wasn’t intentional and I regretted it. The rifts I have created between us.”

I stared at her, searching her face, trying to read her emotions. All I saw was sorry. I refused to be convinced so easily.

“Then why did you do it?” My tone was sharp, my eyes locked on hers.

She shifted uncomfortably. “It was just a visit. I wanted to confront him… to ask why he treated you the way he did. He doesn’t deserve you.” Anger glimmered in her voice. “But then… he kissed me-.”

“And you kissed him back,” I spat angrily. She looked down, shame or whatever written on her face. I didn’t care.

“I regret it, Zee. Immediately. I know no apology can fix it, but I swear I was stupid.”

I sighed. I pitied her, but I didn’t trust her.

“Fine. But is that the only reason you called for this meeting? Last night, you mentioned Ethan.”

“Forgive me first,” she whispered, pouting.

I almost laughed at her childishness, but my lips only curved into a weak smile. I missed her. She was my sister. And anyone can make mistakes—just like Damon makes me feel things I shouldn’t.

“I forgive you, Amber,” I said softly. “But please, be careful around Ethan. He’s more dangerous than we think.”

She smiled, reaching for my hand across the table. “Thank you so much zee”

I returned it with a small, genuine smile.

What was the use holding grudge against her. I guess what she did wasn't much of a big deal. Ethan wasn’t my fiance or husband anymore.

I can't let this little thing break my beautiful relationship with my sister.

“I heard about the attack,” she said suddenly. My body stiffened. Fear prickled my skin as the memory pushed into my head—the chaos, the pain, the terror I tried every night not to relive.

“Yeah…” I forced a smile, trying to look composed. “It felt like something out of a movie.”

“I’m sorry. But you weren’t hurt, right?”

“Not really. I’m fine.”

“Did you involve the police?”

“Damon didn’t agree to it, so no”

She raised her left eye brow giving the why? Look

I hesitated before saying “I really don't know, he was just clearly against it even his medi-”

Gosh… I was spilling too much.

“His what?”

“Nothing, never mind” I said bluntly.

She hesitated, then asked, “Do you trust me now?”

The question weakened my chest. I saw the honesty in her eyes, the sincerity in her voice.

“I’ll need time. But yes—I forgive you.”

Her lips curved into a big smile, though disappointment lingered in her eyes.

“I love you and would always stand by you” she said softly “But you have to believe me now,” she said quickly.

My brow arched, curiosity rising.

“Ethan and Damon already had issues long before you came into the picture. Their fight… it’s not about you.”

My chest tightened. “What do you mean?”

“You just made it worse. Ethan already had this dislike for his brother.”

Of course. I’d always wondered why Ethan cared so much about me and Damon. Maybe it was never about me at all.

“But why?” I asked, desperate for answers Damon would never give me.

“From what I heard, Ethan believes Damon took everything that belonged to him.”

A question slipped from my lips before I could stop it. “Why was Ethan considered the heir?”

Amber paused, thoughtful. “I don’t know for sure. It was their father’s decision. But honestly? Damon should’ve been the real CEO, not Ethan.”

I leaned back, processing. My mind spun with the weight of it.

Amber’s eyes locked on mine, her voice lower now. “So here’s the bigger twist…” She leaned closer. “The whole kissing thing… was a plot by me… to get to Ethan.”

My mouth fell open.

What the hell did I just hear?

Damon hadn’t returned yet, and I was worried—a little. My hands stayed busy, grinding and stirring, but my mind kept drifting back to last night—his quiet confession about his “heart.” The doctors couldn’t even name what was wrong with him. Medicine had reduced the pain, he said, but never enough and it does. That revelation had disturbed me, gnawed at me. But I remembered the village days, remembered a cure I’d once made for similar pain. Maybe, just maybe, I could help him too. That was why I had risked slipping out today, despite Damon’s order not to leave the gates and I should order the medicine online. I possibly can't do that, I had to see and feel everything I collect. So I used the map.The herbs hissed
