Chapter 266

Cynthia's POV

~ Twenty years ago ~

The church was magnificent.

White flowers everywhere—cascading down the aisle, wrapped around every pillar, filling the air with their sweet, almost overwhelming fragrance.

Harold Walker had spared no expense.

"My son deserves the best," he'd declared when the wedding planner had presented the budget. "And so does his bride."

I stood at the back of the church in my wedding dress staring down the long aisle toward the altar where Ethan waited.

Chapter 300 Cynthia's POV I woke up feeling like someone had wrung me out and left me to dry. Every muscle in my body ached with exhaustion that had nothing to do with physical exertion and everything to do with emotional depletion. Yesterday had been... too much. The lead on Pascal that had sent my hopes soaring. Bryan's strange, withdrawn reaction when I'd told him the news. Nikolai's insistence on taking me out, the expensive necklace I'd refused, the uncomfortable weight of his expectations pressing down on me. And then Nathaniel. The fight we'd had about Julian replayed in my mind, making my stomach clench with guilt and residual anger. The things I'd said. The way I'd challenged him. The look on his face when I'd walked out. I'd meant every word. But that didn't make it hurt any less. I rolled over in bed, grabbing my phone from the nightstand. Six-thirty in the morning. Too early to be awake, but my brain was already racing, refusing to let me fall back asleep.

Chapter 299 Ethan's POV The car pulled up to a small farmhouse, modest but well-maintained, with a neat garden and a sturdy fence surrounding the property. The rain had finally started to let up, though the sky remained heavy and gray. Miguel turned off the engine, and he and Carmen exchanged another rapid conversation in Spanish. I sat in the back seat, clutching my bundle of wet clothes, feeling like an intruder despite their kindness. I caught fragments of their discussion—heard my name mentioned, heard what sounded like concern in Carmen's voice, saw Miguel glance back at me through the rearview mirror with an expression I couldn't quite read. They were definitely talking about me. Trying to figure out what to do with the soaking wet stranger they'd just picked up off the side of the road. Finally, Carmen turned in her seat to face me, her expression warm and open. "You want to stay?" she asked in her heavily accented English. "Tonight? We have... room. You can sleep her

Chapter 298 Ethan's POV I sat on the side of the road, my back against a fence post, staring at the drawing in my hands. Cynthia's face looked back at me from the crumpled paper, her eyes seeming to ask a question I couldn't answer. What now? I had no idea. The police wouldn't help. Gavin had given me an ultimatum. And I had nowhere to go, no resources, no plan beyond this desperate need to find a woman I could barely remember. Tears blurred my vision, making the drawing swim in front of me. I failed. Failed to convince the police to help. Failed to make anyone believe me. Failed to do anything except prove that I was exactly as helpless and lost as I'd been six months ago when Gavin first found me. The first drops of rain started falling. Soft at first, then harder, until it was coming down in sheets, soaking through my clothes, plastering my hair to my forehead. I looked down at the drawing, watching in horror as the paper started to darken with moisture, the pencil line

Chapter 297 Ethan's POV I didn't sleep. The drawing in front of me wasn't perfect—my artistic skills were limited at best, and working with just a pencil and cheap paper didn't help. I stared at the drawing, my heart pounding. Gavin's ultimatum echoed in my mind. Stay and let her go, or leave and see how far your obsession gets you. But it wasn't an obsession. It was love. Bone-deep, soul-certain love that I couldn't explain but couldn't deny. And I had to try. Even if Gavin kicked me out. Even if I ended up homeless and starving. Even if Cynthia had moved on or didn't want me back or never existed in the way I remembered. I had to try. Because my heart wouldn't rest until I knew the truth. … The moment the sun was fully up, I grabbed the drawing and headed out. I didn't tell Gavin where I was going. I just walked out of the farmhouse and started the long trek into the nearest station. The police station was exactly as I remembered it from my previous visit months ag

Chapter 296 Cynthia's POV Nathaniel's face hardened, his jaw setting in that stubborn way that meant he'd already made up his mind and nothing I said would change it. "I'm going to tell Mom," he said firmly. "She needs to know what Julian is doing. What he's become." "What he's become?" I repeated, my voice rising. "Nathaniel, he hasn't become anything. He's always been gay. This isn't something that happened to him. This is who he is." "It's wrong," Nathaniel said, his voice tight with conviction. "It's ungodly. It goes against everything we were raised to believe, everything our family stands for." "Everything you believe," I shot back. "Not everyone in this family shares your rigid, judgmental view of the world." Nathaniel stepped closer, his expression a mixture of anger and something that looked almost like desperation. "Julian needs to come back to his senses," he said. "He needs to understand that this... this lifestyle he's chosen is unacceptable. That he's putting the

Chapter 295 Bryan's POV I looked Grace directly in the eyes, keeping my voice cold and controlled. "I don't actually give a fuck about whatever drama is going on between you, Anna, and Pascal," I said bluntly. "That's your mess to sort out. What I do care about is making sure you never get found." Grace's eyebrows rose slightly. "Because if the police catch you," I continued, "they'll make you talk. They'll get information about where you took Ethan, where you dumped him, every detail of what happened that night. And that trail will lead them to finding him." I stepped closer, my voice dropping lower. "And I can't let that happen," I said. "Right now, I don't know if Ethan is dead or alive. And honestly? It's better not to know. Better for everyone if he just stays... gone." Grace stared at me for a moment. Then she burst out laughing. The sound was sharp and mocking, echoing off the walls of the alley we were standing in. "This is hilarious," Grace said, wiping at her eyes
