"...I'm speeding down the highway as we speak. I'll be there before you know it..."

Isaac paused for a heartbeat.

"Lydia, I believe you."

Hearing those four words was enough to convince her that her life hadn't completely collapsed overnight.

Right on cue, a sharp knock landed against the door.

She expected it to be Adrian. Perhaps he had finished dealing with his urgent matter and was returning to explain the situation, just as he had promised earlier.

"Come in."

The door clicked open.

"Lydia..." Natasha said, her voice breaking. The moment Lydia assured everyone the spill had already been cleaned and there was nothing to worry about, Joy quietly returned to her station.Natasha, however, didn't give Lydia the chance to say a single word."Because of you, Isaac is lying in the hospital.""He almost lost his life!"What?Lydia unconsciously held her breath.No...It couldn't be.She had tried so hard to bury that possibility the moment Isaac's location had led her to a hospital. The first emotion Lydia felt upon seeing Natasha had been disgust. The sister who had faked sympathy for her was now standing there in a figure-hugging outfit that revealed her long, slender legs.So unlike the Natasha she knew. The Natasha who had always been strict.Conservative.Almost obsessively obsessed with decency. It was as though she had transformed overnight.More beautiful.More confident.More... liberated. It made Lydia feel strangely small. It was as if a thin veil had finally be

In no time, the car pulled into the executive parking lot of Infinite Sky Tech.Ivy turned off the ignition, and silence settled inside the vehicle."We're here, Ms. Sinclair. The private elevator is clear."Lydia tightened her grip on her purse, her eyes fixed above the edge of her mask."Good.""I'd like to see exactly what we're dealing with....But before that... I want to walk through the first floor."With a firm push, she opened the car door and stepped out, ready to begin the day by facing whatever awaited her.The bustling reception lobby of Infinite Sky Tech was graced by her presence. At her left, Ivy walked with a straight posture and a stern expression. It wasn't a mistake, Lydia thought.Ivy was deliberately wearing a colder expression than usual today.Well...It certainly got the message across.Beneath her face mask, Lydia's breathing remained steady. The piercing gazes following her from every direction, however, were anything but normal. With most of her face concealed,

When Adrian—whatever he was, and whatever game he was playing—still hadn't shown up, Lydia's patience finally began to wear thin. She had dialed Isaac's number countless times.A hundred would have been an understatement. Each unanswered ring felt like another drop of ice water sliding down her spine. What if he had abandoned her?The thought clawed at the back of her mind.No.She forced it away. She wouldn't doubt him.Not after he told her he believed her.He said he was coming. He had to.Yet her feet were left on icy groundsHis last known location refused to make any sense.Ahospital.She tried to convince herself there had to be an emergency.Something urgent must have happened.Nothing bad happened to him. He's fine. She repeated the words like a mantra, though her chest continued to tighten.Fortunately, she wasn't entirely defenseless. She still held two trump cards.Adrian.And Henry. The two men would surely be useful as it is.Surprisingly, a narcissist like Henry hadn't recoiled

"Special? What do you mean by that?" Lydia asked. She locked her jaw, refusing to open her mouth for the spoon Miriam was holding out.It didn't look like the nanny intended to tell her anything.Realizing she wasn't going to get an answer, Lydia took matters into her own hands. She grabbed the bowl from the tray, lifted it to her lips, and gulped the soup down in one go."It's terrible. I really don't like soup," Lydia grumbled, setting the empty bowl down.Miriam didn't argue. She simply prepared the medicine the doctor had prescribed before reaching over to gently wipe Lydia's mouth."He never lets just anyone into this room," Miriam murmured."Well... he cleans this place himself."Lydia froze. That was quite the information dump. She stared at Miriam for a long moment before slowly nodding, piecing together what the older woman meant. No wonder the Harolds had reacted so strongly. All because Adrian had ordered this room to be prepared... for her."Why?"The nanny was already gone by t

You must still be exhausted. Have some warm soup," she said, offering a warm smile. Her kindness stood in stark contrast to the permanent frowns that seemed to plague the rest of the Harold family.Looking at her gentle expression, Lydia wondered if this woman might be willing to answer some of her questions."Thank

Henry sneered down at her, his eyes wild."But there's no need to fret. It just suggests that we fit each other perfectly, don't you think?"Lydia frantically pry at his grip, twisting just to break free from his painful grasp. He was insane."You're mine, young lady," Henry hissed. "And nobody is taking you away from me."Oh, no.Please, not another nightmare added to her plate."You're a bitch, and I'm scum," Henry whispered against her ear. "Perfect match. Happily ever after."To her horror, not a single servant happened to be nearby.Realizing Lydia had no intention of playing the submissive, apologetic girlfriend, the scumbag slammed his free hand over her mouth. Even if she screamed, every sound would be smothered against his palm."Have you forgotten?" Henry hissed, pinning her back. "We're already engaged. And whatsoever happened at the frmal party yesterday didn't change a thing."Lydia thrashed against him, using every ounce of her remaining strength to bite down hard on his h
