Chase’s POV

“Let me introduce you to my husband and our acquaintances,” Edna Jones was saying, but I could hardly concentrate on what she was saying.

My eyes were still glued to Arnold.

He was standing somewhere in the room with a glass of wine in his hand, and speaking to about two other persons. He seemed so invested in the conversation that he wasn’t even paying attention to anything else.

A part of me felt that he would have looked up and our eyes would have met.

“Of course, Edna,” Carmen said.

Thankfully, she was here to speak for the both of us.

That was exactly why she was my manager; to give all the responses that I couldn’t.

“This way, please,” Edna Jones offered.

I was supposed to go with them, but I just couldn’t move a foot.

This was a man that I had sent countless emails to, but never got a response. I had thought that I would see him at the event, but he hadn’t shown up, and that was the same event that Tiana Donalds had been given his promotion.
