Chase’s POV

The moment I saw the look in Carmen’s eyes, I knew that there was something she wasn’t telling me, and I realized that I didn’t really ask what the party was about before getting dressed to attend.

“What is the theme of this gathering, Carmen?” I asked her again. “Why exactly are we here?” I questioned further.

I had to cut short her dreaminess because it unnerved something deep inside of me.

Carmen was simply dreaming, and that was because she probably hadn’t been dealt a hard blow with life.

“Um, Edna Jones just wanted a few of her clients to get to meet you as well,” Carmen blurted out.

“Are you sure?” I asked her, suspecting that she was lying to me.

This could have done in a more formal setting, and not something that already looked cozy and intimate to me. Heck, she even chose to use her country home.
