Carmen’s POV

“Can I take a moment to use the men’s?” Chase asked Edna.

“Oh, of course,” Edna said without hesitation. “It’s just the aisle down, and the second door by your right. The first door leads to the ladies, so be careful about that one,” she added.

“Thanks,” Chase said with a nod.

Then he walked away from us, and that was when I released a breath I hadn’t even realized I was holding.

“Finally, some women-time,” the same woman said.

She was introduced to us as Fiona, one of the wives of the men present, and a very good friend of Edna, but she almost made me pass out with that intuitive question of hers. The moment Edna Jones introduced Chase and me, she had asked that question.

Others had simply stared at us with suspicion, and that was because the party was for couples, but none of them said anything like Fiona did, and I knew immediately that she was a woman who would like a gossip.
