Carmen’s POV

Before I could even blink my eyes, my dad was at the door.

“Who the fuck is…” he started angrily, but when he saw that it was me, he stopped. “Carmen,” he called, his voice becoming a little calmer instantly.

I hadn’t set eyes on my dad since I moved out in anger two months ago, but this didn’t feel like a good reunion.

“Who is it?” Lori asked from inside the room.

My dad opened the door widely.

“It’s Carmen,” he said.

I had to walk into the bedroom like a silly lamb that had been caught going astray.

“I thought you were downstairs,” Lori said, turning her face away.

She sniffed and wiped her eyes before turning back to look at me, and again, I knew that she still had tears in her eyes. Well, now that I had already been caught eavesdropping, I might as well address it.
