I wake up to an empty bed and feel an immediate sense of panic. I jolt up to see the storm is still in full motion and crawl quickly over to find the boys still sleeping in their bassinets. I take a minute, clutching my chest to calm myself and try to catch by breath. I look over at the clock to see that it’s half past five and decide to look for Leo. It was odd to find that he’d just left the bed.

I get up quietly and slowly exit our bedroom to find Leo sitting at the breakfast nook in the kitchen. I can hear the sounds of his phone showing the weather reports.

“Is there something wrong?” I ask as I come to his side quietly. He hadn’t heard me and seemed surprised as he puts his phone down.

“Oh. Did I wake you?” He smiles softly as he turns his full attention to me and I can tell he’s trying not to worry me.

“No. I think the wind must’ve startled me or something.” I try to fake a small smile and push away the anxiety that nerves that were still eating away at me.

  • The Billionaire Husband’s Betrayal   Chapter 137: Leonardo’s POV

I wake up to see that it’s almost five in the morning and notice that the storm was still in full effect. The wind was relentless, the rain - furious and the darkness was almost infinite. I see the bottles and realize that Claire had done the routine and let me sleep. And although I was grateful, I felt almost guilty that she had to do it alone.I take a look over at my boys. They were sleeping peacefully and I could see the roundness of their small and full bellies. I then turn to have a look at my wife and I’m relieved to see that she decided to get some rest. I knew better than anyone that Claire was fighting a losing battle with her fears. In her mind, things still go bump in the night and whatever awaits you in the dark is never a friend. I reach her side of the bed, giving her a gentle kiss on her forehead before heading to the bathroom and then downstairs. To my surprise, Elena was fast asleep on the couch. She must’ve stayed up to keep Claire company. I reach over to wake her

  • The Billionaire Husband’s Betrayal   Chapter 137: Charlotte’s POV

After my luxurious shower, I change into a comfortable outfit - black, of course and find keys to one of the many vehicles I had abandoned outside when I was taken forcibly to that looney bin. I jump into the front seat and hear the wind hissing against the windows as I push the ignition on and watch as the car roars to life without hesitation. My first destination would be Leo’s house. I’m nothing less than certain that I can find Claire there. After a short drive, I land at the same house where I began this journey of separation between that grotesque Claire and my beloved Leonardo. Only this time, I was left speechless. A ‘For Sale’ was picketed in the front of the driveway and the house seemed to be vacant. I get out of the car and rush to the door as the rain continues furiously, almost whisking away my umbrella. I knock and hear no response. After a few seconds of silence, I look over to some windows and try to peek inside. I’m shocked to see the house is completely vacant. No

I can’t help but feel my entire body shiver as the power plunges and the generator takes the lead, kicking on within mere moments. This storm made me feel more anxious by the second. I instinctively look over at our boys who are sleeping carelessly in their bassinets with Leo laying on bed just in front of them. ‘It’s only a storm. We’re going to be fine. We’re safe.’ A mantra I’ve found myself repeating internally since the mention of this storm hitting our coastline. I’ve hone through countless earthquakes, severe thunderstorms and even tornados before, but for some reason - this one made me feel the most afraid and uneasy and I couldn’t even begin to explain why. I take one last look at Leo and the boys before heading downstairs to get a snack and pump for the next feeding. To my surprise, Elena was already in the kitchen making my plate. I jump as I notice her. “Oh! I’m sorry, Ms.Claire. I didn’t mean to startle you.” Elena says softly as she reaches for my arm gently.“No, tha

  • The Billionaire Husband’s Betrayal   Chapter 136: Charlotte’s POV

It’s been three hours and I watch as the clock strikes the opening hour of the storm. The lightening, wind and rain have all started to pick up and I’m almost elated to see my plan fall into place. One power outage and I’d be free. I wait in anticipation of my new freedom as the lights begin to flicker. I then see my mother appear vaguely for a second - she was in the corner and just as she materializes, she disappears. The medication had helped with her departure, I’m sure. Although, I couldn’t care less about her right now. I continue waiting until I hear the electricity surge and I’m left in complete darkness. “It’s time.” I smile as I rush out of bed, pull my door open and head two doors over to the designated triage room before kicking in the vent and climbing inside quietly while putting the vent back into place. The funny thing is that I didn’t know if the doors would even open for me to escape because they lock automatically behind them - luckily for me, they were indeed e

  • The Billionaire Husband’s Betrayal   Chapter 135: Mason’s POV

I watch as Jasmine checks the pantry once again. For a woman with such a healthy and slim appearance, it was impossible to miss just how much she ate. My mother will be one proud woman once she’s met Jasmine’s appetite.“The food isn’t going to disappear, Jas. Relax.” I could hear Nathan say from just across the kitchen. He wasn’t wrong but that wasn’t going to stop Jasmine from checking and second-guessing anyways.“I just don’t know if this is enough for the three of us if anything happens.” She saws through furrowed brows.“I’m sure we’ll be just fine. I’m going to step into the living room for a second. I got to call Leo and confirm our arrangement.” I had offered that Claire be kept safe by an officer; pending the current severe weather forecast. I pull out my phone and wait for Leo to answer.“Mason, is everything alright?” His immediate concern was evident.“Hey man, yeah. Everything is just fine. I just wanted to see when I should send Officer Paul over for surveillance.” “Le
