Kane’s brow furrowed. Caleb's accusations left him speechless, unable to offer a single word of defense.

“Kane, I told you before: if you can’t make her happy, then get out of the way! Stop blocking other people who want to be good to her!” Caleb was furious, filled with regret. He should have just taken her, consequences be damned, instead of worrying about upsetting Aria.

“Caleb, I’m warning you. She’s mine. Always has been, always will be. Don’t you even think about it!” Kane grabbed Caleb's collar, his voice low and menacing, then shoved him away.

Caleb stumbled back, hitting the wall. He glared at Kane, who returned the stare just as fiercely. The air between them crackled with tension, ready to explode.

Just then, Betsy pushed the door open. Seeing the two men at each other's throats, she frowned.

Aria didn't think much of it and started walking home with Basia. On the way up the stairs, Basia buried her face in Aria's neck and asked, her voice muffled,"Mommy, can I have a kids' phone?"When they were in France, Caleb had bought Basia a kids' phone for safety and so she could call her friends. Aria remembered how much Basia loved it but had forgotten to bring it with them when they came back. She had also planned to enroll Basia in a new preschool soon, so a phone would be useful."Of course! I'll get you one when I go to see Uncle Marvin, okay?" Aria kissed her daughter's cheek as they arrived home.Basia's eyes lit up, and she smiled."Mommy, are you going to see Uncle Marvin?"At the beginning of the year, Marvin was in France on a business trip and had run into Aria and Basia. He had thought Aria died in the traffic accident four years ago, so he was completely shocked to see her, let alone with a daughter Basia's age.Aria didn't explain the details of the accident; she j

  • The Billionaire Regret After My Goodbye   Basia's Secret New Friend

Basia's little face scrunched up, her rosebud lips in a tiny pout. Her big, dark eyes, as clear and bright as black grapes, blinked at Kane, while her brow furrowed in a worried frown.Kane couldn't help but smile at her conflicted expression."If your mommy doesn't like strangers, how about I just walk you to your building?" he offered, trying to make things easier for her.Basia tilted her head, looked at him, and then smiled sweetly and nodded."Okay, then tell me which building you live in."Kane picked her up, gesturing for her to show him the way. With one arm around his neck, Basia pointed with her other chubby finger to a nearby building."There," she said, her voice clear. Then she rested her head on his shoulder, completely at ease. She sniffed, thinking how good her new handsome mister smelled—warm and nice, even better than Caleb's.Basia's eyes darted around. She thought that if her handsome mister could be her dad, her mom would be happy, too. He was so gentle; he'd wipe

"Help me with what?" Kane asked, his voice filled with delight.Basia pointed to a small pond nearby, where a red rubber ball was floating."Ball," Basia said, a little pouty, her words coming out so quickly they sounded like a foreign language."The ball ran away. Basia can't reach it. Handsome mister, can you help Basia get it, please?"Kane found the girl's way of speaking charming. Remembering her initial shyness, he nodded."Okay, I'll get it for you. You have to be a good girl and not run off again."He squeezed her cheek, then lowered her to the ground and walked toward the pond.Kane took big steps and quickly reached the pond, but when he turned around, he saw Basia waddling behind him with her tiny legs.He turned back, picked her up, and brought her back."Stay here, good girl." He gave her a stern look, to make sure she understood not to run off while he got her ball.Basia nodded obediently. As she looked at the pond, a look of distaste appeared in her eyes. The expressio

Gabriella once thought that once Aria was dead, Kane would quickly forget her and be with her instead. But what happened? He was still obsessed with that woman! All these years, no matter what she did, she was only met with his mockery and contempt. She couldn't understand why he couldn't just forget a dead person."Imprisoned?" Kane looked as if he had just heard the biggest joke."Gabriella, when it comes to self-deception, you're the one who's completely in denial!""Did you really think I'd accept every woman who throws herself at me?" Kane sneered, giving Gabriella a cold side-glance."Even if Aria is dead, in my heart, she's the only woman I'll ever acknowledge.""Everyone else..." Kane paused, giving Gabriella a look of pure disgust."Even if you stripped naked and stood in front of me, I'd have no interest. It would just make me sick."Gabriella's body trembled. Everyone else? He was just saying that to insult her!"Kane." She took a deep breath, her eyes welling up with tears

"Mom, please don't say that."Aria's grip on Elena's hand tightened. She looked up at her and smiled."It's all in the past. We should both move on with our lives."Elena was stunned. Aria didn't sound like she was just saying this out of spite."Aria, have you really made up your mind?"In the last four years, Elena had seen what Kane had done, and she felt it would be a shame for such a good man to be let go."Yes." Aria nodded, still smiling."Basia does need a dad, but it can be someone else.""Someone else?" Elena looked at her with a puzzled expression. Then a look of shock crossed her face."You don't mean Caleb, do you? You like him?"Elena knew that Caleb had been taking good care of Aria and her daughter. She had also heard Basia call Caleb "Uncle Caleb," but she never imagined it would come to this.Realizing the misunderstanding, Aria quickly explained,"No, Caleb and I are just friends. He's Basia's godfather, and that's all.""Really?" Elena wasn't entirely convinced. As
