Victoria's POV

My new mansion with Alexander was a monument to impersonal taste.

As I walked through the dressing room, my eyes fixed on my own reflection in the full-length mirror. My hands instinctively went down to my flat stomach, pressing against the thin silk of the robe.

"This stomach has to be pregnant," I whispered to my reflection, my fingers clenching the fabric.

"That imbecile doctor doesn't know what he's talking about." I leaned closer to the mirror, searching for any sign he might have missed.

"You are pregnant, Victoria. You will give the man of your life an heir. Isn't that right, my future baby?"

For a moment, I could almost feel a presence there, a promise of what was to come. But then reality imposed itself, and my fists clenched against the very emptiness.

"Damn doctor!" I hissed quietly at the reflection. "But I'll try with another one. I'll find someone who isn't completely incompetent."

It was then that the cell phone rang, breaking the oppressive silence o

Alexander's POVHer slap hurt less than the humiliation of having let her get that close. But the pain served a purpose. It confirmed my facade was working. It was dangerous. It was unpredictable. As soon as Victoria's haughty footsteps faded, leaving only the echo of hatred in the hall, my face gave way.The mask of coldness dissolved into an expression of pure exhaustion.I ran my hand over my face, feeling the roughness of the beard, the warm sting of the slap."Damn it…" The murmur came out like a sigh of temporary defeat.Paris, with its chosen solitude, its exhaustive training, and its meticulous plans, hadn't prepared me for the immediate toxicity of being under the same roof with her again. She was sharper, more venomous, feeling like she owned the game because her father held the strings to my company. I needed to recalculate, and fast."And I hope Lila is doing her part now," I continued, looking out the window as if I could see through the city to the Morgan Holdings offices.

  • The Billionaire Replaced Me With My Assistant    Chapter 158

Victoria's POVThe mansion was too silent, a silence that weighed irritatingly. Seated on the white silk sofa I hated but kept for status, I tried to focus on the tablet.Financial reports from my father's companies, emails from advisors, social media notifications where I was perfect. But nothing held my attention. The emptiness around me was palpable. The sound that broke the silence was not welcome. It was the insistent, whiny crying of Liam. He was at my feet, pulling on the hem of my linen pants with his little hands dirty from juice."Mommy, play! Mommy, up!"I looked down. His light eyes, so much like his, stared at me with an expectation I had no intention of meeting."No, Liam. Mommy is busy," I said, my voice sharp. I gently nudged his little foot away with the tip of my shoe."Go play with the nanny."He cried louder, a frustrated scream. Irritation rose like lava in my throat."Where is he, huh?" I whispered to nothing, not addressing the boy, but the ghost of the father's

Sophia's POV Michael turned over again in his sleep, his back to me, unaware of my presence. With my heart hammering against my ribs, I navigated through his unlocked phone. My hands trembled so much I almost dropped the device. The first thing I saw was the call log. Dozens of them. Incoming and outgoing. All to the same name:Vanessa Sterling.A wave of nausea rose in my throat.'Sophia, how can you do this to him? After everything he has proven? You are the worst woman in the world.'I promised myself that, after this, I would never invade his privacy again. But the promise disintegrated when my finger touched the messages icon. Most were work conversations: suppliers, the office, bank alerts.Nothing out of the ordinary.I was almost convincing myself of my mistake, about to return the phone, when a new notification popped up at the top of the screen.'Vanessa: Hey, are you awake? I can't sleep.'My finger froze. Then, driven by an impulse that felt like fate, I tapped. The conve

Sophia's POV I closed my eyes tightly. The rage was a volcano about to erupt; tears of pure fury burned behind my eyelids. Richard's face, smiling as he said he had killed my mother, was etched onto my retina. 'Sophia,' a cold, logical voice echoed inside me, the voice I had cultivated over these three years. 'Think. Think clearly. Your instinct is to strangle this man with your bare hands right now, but the plan you've been crafting since Irina's death will reward this calm. He wants to see you lose control. He knows you have the upper hand, that's why he went for this low blow. Those Japanese investors are watching everything. And he could be bluffing, just to hurt you, or to hurt Eleanor through you.' I took a deep breath, the air entering my lungs feeling as if it were cut by blades. I opened my eyes. The tears had dried, leaving only a cold, determined glint. "I expected more from you, honestly," I said, my voice steady, almost disdainful. The cruel smile vanished from th

Sophia's POV"What is it, Richard? Aren't you going to invite me to sit down?"My voice cut through the air of the restaurant, sounding much calmer than I felt inside.Richard was paralyzed, my hands still on his shoulders. His eyes were bloodshot, the whites marked by red veins. His lower lip trembled almost uncontrollably, as if he were facing not me, but a ghost from his worst nightmare. Two huge bodyguards who had been standing nearby took a step forward. Richard thrust his arm out in a brusque gesture, ordering them to stop.He brought a linen handkerchief to his face, wiping a thin layer of sweat that had broken out above his lip. When he spoke, his voice was barely a whisper, almost inaudible."What are you doing here!?"I completely ignored him. I turned to the three clearly Japanese investors, who were watching the scene with politely neutral but curious expressions.I gave a slight nod and began to speak in fluent Japanese,a language I had learned in my days as an assistant

Sophia’s POV "Mark, thank you so much. Really. I swear I don't even know how to thank you. This is... crucial." "Sophia, stop it. You don't have to pay me. Don't even think about it." His voice carried an emotional weight. "After everything you did for me, when that board tried to take me down, when Irina set up that whole plot to push me aside... You were the only person who didn't turn their back. Not everything in life has a price." "I know, Mark. And that's exactly why I insist," I replied, keeping my tone gentle but non-negotiable. "Your work has value.Your time, your risk, your expertise. I won't turn our loyalty into an excuse to exploit you. And more importantly: I don't want you, at any point, to have to put yourself at risk for me without that being recognized. That's not how I operate." I heard him let out a long, deep sigh on the other end of the line, a sound of resignation mixed with worry. "Alright. You win. But listen…" His voice lowered, becoming more grave.
