Chapter 58

By the time I’d finished eating I felt a million times better. The soreness inside me had faded, as had my fear of being alone. Tomichii was back and Katrina was nowhere to be seen, another companion having escorted her off somewhere.

As soon as Tomichii had appeared he had sat down in front of me and ordered himself some food as well. We’d eaten together and he’d told me how much progress Kioshi was already making with their research and adaptation of the system that had healed me since I’d given them samples of my blood.

I gave him one of the only genuine smiles of the day as we both sat back, one appetite sated at least.

“It’s good to see you well, my sweet,” Tomichii said as soon as I put my knife and fork down. “I was concerned. You put so much effort into your unveiling.”

“I rested well after, and you were all such darlings at my unveiling. I’m sure it wasn’t as much of a.. well... You were all wonderful and everyone has been so nice to me today…” I trailed off, not sure what to
