Mattias launched one of the purple smoke bombs back at the werewolves and they yelped and fell back. None of them were about to risk losing their minds or going mad, and in that brief moment of confusion, Mattias escaped, leaving their sights completely.

The cage bounced violently against the uneven ground as two men carried me deeper into the forest. I had stopped struggling and yelling a while ago, mostly because my arms ached from gripping the bars and I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of seeing me wear myself out.

When the cloth came off my head, the first thing I noticed was the camp. I'd expected some kind of fortress, but this wasn't that at all. It was a sad, almost pathetic scattering of tents and shacks patched together from scrap metal, wood, and torn tarps.

Smoke curled from a few dull fires, and I caught the sour smell of stew mixed with wet dirt and sweat.

Small children darted between the shelters, their thin faces lighting up with curiosity when they saw the

  • The Billionaire Who Bought Me The Moon   Chapter 40 - Superman's Got Nothing On Me

    # Chapter — The RescueThe van's engine roared to life, and the driver sped up so fast that everyone in the van leaned sideways, then forward, almost falling out of their seats.Samantha forced her hands over her ears, trying to drown out the noise of gunfire and kidnappers shouting over each other as they slammed doors and loaded bullets into their weapons."Move it, princesa," Marcus snarled, his fingers digging cruelly into her arm hard enough to bruise. The noises only got louder, the rival gang had been eerily quiet before, but they shouted on top of their voices now. "Contact left!" A sharp military-sounding voice yelled from out of the darkness. Out of the tiny, black tinted windows, Samantha could see armed men coming out of the shadows like demons, their rifles blazing as they shouted in accented English. "The girl! Give us the girl!""She's worth ten million to the right buyer!" another roared. "Hand her over or we'll take her from your corpses!"Marcus yanked Samantha har

  • The Billionaire Who Bought Me The Moon   Chapter 39 - She's A Fighter

Samantha's eyes shot up to the ceiling, searching frantically for her hero to come down and rescue her. Meanwhile, the men froze with their guns halfway raised. Marcus's jaw tightened as he scanned the ceiling like he could see through it, his eyes following the sound of the chopper as it grew louder above them."Shit," the scarred Canadian muttered, lowering his weapon slightly and sighing. "Not the fucking police. I'm not going to prison again man.""Could be FBI," another voice added nervously. "That might be federal equipment up there.""Or SWAT," the quiet one said, cocking his rifle with a sharp click. "Jesus Christ, what the hell were we thinking, kidnapping a freaking billionaire's girlfriend. The entire world's military is about to be on our ass cause he probably fucking bought them or something."Marcus snarled, his face twisting with rage. "Enough with your bitching. The cops won't shoot at us if we use her as leverage and put her in the line of fire. Grab the girl. Now!"

  • The Billionaire Who Bought Me The Moon   Chapter 38 - Small Rocks, Children's Shoes, and Mechanical Birds

They'd abandoned her after making her appear on their humiliating video. Samantha's mind raced a mile a minute as she thought about the dozen things that could go wrong if she got caught. But it didn't matter. She wasn't going to die here, she had a family to take care of! The jagged piece of concrete that she'd hidden underneath her foot was her secret weapon, her only chance out of this godforsaken prison. She'd cried desperately, trying to keep quiet while still scratching at the bindings for what felt like hours, every single scrape sending lightning up her arms until they hurt so bad from the effort, that she felt like they might fall off.She felt her palms get sweaty with nerves, but she never gave up, until finally! Finally, the ropes began to give, little by little, a thread would snap, and every time it felt like she was closer to freedom. Her heart beat quickly, with one last push of effort, the last strand tore, and her right hand slipped free. It was trembling and so sti

  • The Billionaire Who Bought Me The Moon   Chapter 37 - What's She Worth To You?

The photo of Samantha's bruised, trembling face looked back at him as though someone had pressed a hot iron straight into his chest. Her wrists were bound to the chair and her head tilted down in defiance despite everything, her body shaking. They'd made her look so small and breakable. And beneath it, the words:Fifty million. Twenty-four hours. Now Jason had paid more than that for a private satellite, for a jet, for scraps of land he'd never set foot on. He'd even bought the moon for Samantha, all without breaking a sweat, because there was much more where that money came from. But this wasn't about money, this was about the arrogance of a few money-hungry strangers to put their hands on what was his. Why would anyone put a price tag on her, as though Samantha could be bought or sold by anyone but me?His knuckles cracked against the edge of the desk, tearing his skin, but he didn't feel it. Instead, he kept his eyes glued to his phone until it buzzed again with a message from the

  • The Billionaire Who Bought Me The Moon   Chapter 36 - No Other Fucking Suggestions

The phone rang twice before it went to voicemail.Jason frowned with irritation, lowering the phone slowly from his ear. He stood at the floor-to-ceiling windows of his penthouse, forty stories above Manhattan, watching the city below him shine like a thousand lights. It made no sense for Samantha not to respond the last 5 times he'd called her. Sure, they may not have left off on the best of terms, even though he was sure he'd just given her the best sex of her life, but...He glanced at the clock glowing from his nightstand, 11:17 p.m. She was supposed to be packing by now. Maybe she would be grumbling in the adorable way she usually did, about how he was a control freak for sending his assistants into her house to leave designer gifts. But there was nothing. She didn't call back, or even text. There was just complete radio silence.Jason tried to call her again, now pacing across the marble floor toward the tall glass windows. The line was connected for half a ring, then cut. He
