Synopsis

The road to success isn't an easy one . Especially when you are poor and meet a rich spoiled jerk . The first time we saw each other was when I saved an old lady from being crushed by his car . After saving the old lady his car slashed the rainwater on the hole of the ground was splashed on me , making me a public laughing stock , just his presence gets me to my nerves . I had enough problems , a jerk like him was all I needed to make my life turn upside down . Four years passed . I finished university and graduated with top grades as a lawyer and bodyguard . Just when I thought that I could finally start my plan of becoming successful , our paths crossed again . This time he had become the arrogant devil with a cold face . Fate is being unfair by making me suffer in the hands of this devil once again . The leader of a huge empire died without naming the name of the inheritor to his fortune . In order to protect my family and give them a better future , I had no choice but to comply with his wishes and help him sit on that throne . How could I , a normal girl , help the heir to a multi-billion company sit on the chair of the leader ? Turns out that the devil needs a lawyer to play in his favor . After he had succeeded, after we each got what we were aiming for , we would go our separate ways . I never wanted to be entangled with him . Meeting him was a mistake from the very beginning . When our collaboration came to an end , he was supposed to let me go but instead of gaining my freedom , I got locked up again . Can I ever escape this man ?

Chapter 1

How it all started

【2010年7月23日（金）】静岡県・三島市

“我慢強く生きる覚悟を　わたしにください――”

そこまでのフレーズを書いた後、キヨミは顔を上げる。アズサと目が合う――その日の数週間前、三島市立の図書館で初めて言葉を交わしたばかりの先輩である、彼女に見られている。

「アズサ」

鏡を見たら恐らくクマだらけのやつれた表情で、キヨミは年齢が一つ上の彼女を呼び捨てする。そうするよう彼女が言ったからだ。

“アズサでいい。ううん、それ以外許さない。もしアズサさんとか、アズサセンパイなんて言うなら、殺すから――君の首を絞めたあとで、その可愛らしい舌と、可愛らしい両目をとって、ずっとホルマリン漬けの宝物にしちゃうんだから。どう、うれしい？　それとも、キモイ？”――（キヨミはもちろん、「キモイ」と答えた）

アズサは|微笑《ほほえ》む。微笑んだときだけ、彼女は聖母のようになる。いったいその聖母の口から、いつ「殺す」なんて言葉がつむがれたのか。ひょっとしたらすべて幻聴だったんじゃないか。そう思わせるような表情になる。

「また貴重な時間をつぶして、なにくだらないことやっていたの。まさかとは思うけど詩を書いていたとか？」

キヨミの行いは、ぜんぶバレている。こういうとき、ヘタに「ごめんなさい」なんて謝らない方がいい。謝られることは、「さん」や「センパイ」付けで呼ばれることの次にアズサが嫌うことだ。

「まさかと思われた、その通りのことをしていました」

「ふうん。やっぱり。じゃ、お仕置き」

「あっ」

アズサがキヨミの|腋《わき》をくすぐる。キヨミは必死に声を抑えようとする。けれど、|漏《も》れる。あ、あひゃっ。変な声が出る。

「かわいい。君はこうしてるときが一番かわいい」

優しい声でアズサは言う。そしてキヨミの頬に、チュッ、と口づけする。周りで生徒が見ていたなら、ちょっとした騒ぎになっているだろう。けれど放課後の図書室には、彼女らしかいない。誰もいなくて良かったと言うより、誰もいないからこそアズサは、こんな行為をしているのだろうか。

「や、やめてっ」

「やめない」

「いひっ、あひゃっ」

そうやって、いつものようにじゃれ合う。まるで幼いころからずっと仲良しだった友同士のように。姉妹のように。そうではない、「恋人同士」。たしかそう、二人の間で約束が交わされたはずだ。

ひとしきりくすぐり終えた後、ようやくアズサが、キヨミを開放して言う。

「とりあえず見せてよ、書いたやつ」

キヨミは渋々、ノートに書いた落書きを見せる。

こんなもの詩とは呼べない。文章ですらない、ただの落書きだ。

「“グッバイノーソン、ハローテクノロジー”」

無駄にリフレインした箇所を読まれ、キヨミは、かあっと顔が熱くなる。恥ずかしい。腋をくすぐられるより、頬にキスされるよりもよっぽど。

ノートをバサッと机に放り、アズサはまた口を開く。

「君はね、本だけ読んでればいいの。詩とか、小説とか書いちゃダメ」

「なんで、ですか」

「なんで、じゃない。なんでも。モノカキなんて、卑しいことはしちゃだめ。それは奴隷のやることです。私たちみたいな貴族は、奴隷の書いたモノを読んでればいい。商品として消費し、飽きたら捨てればいい。だからね」

と、アズサはまた、キヨミの腋に手を入れる。あひゃっ。

「君はね、ゼッタイ詩とか、小説とか書いちゃだめ。なるべく多くの本を読むの。わかった？」

放課後の図書館で繰り広げられた、あの、二人だけのちょっとした|戯《たわむ》れ。

アズサがいなくなってからは、それすら|懐《なつ》かしく、愛おしく思えてしまう。死に別れたわけではない。単にアズサはキヨミの元を去っていった。自然消滅のようなものだ。

だからこそ、その消失を永遠に感じてしまう。それぞれが違う世界に分け隔てられたのならまだしも、同じ世界にいながらもう会えないということほど、深い|訣別《けつべつ》はない。

そしてアズサは、キヨミから奪っていった。大切な、大切な、感情というものを。そして「あの子」に関する記憶を。

「あの子」が一度キヨミに託しながら、アズサが奪っていったそれ。感情、心、あるいは魂とでも呼ぶべきものだろうか。

胸にぽっかり穴が空いたよう、という慣用句もある。しかしキヨミにとってみれば、もう9年近くもその穴が塞がったことはない。

まるで無感情の人形のように、ただただキヨミは、人生を擦り減らし続けていた。

感情、心、あるいは魂とでも呼ぶべき何か。

それらが今、キヨミがなくしているもの。
