Mona's POV

The first thing I felt was the headache. It throbbed behind my eyes, dull at first, then it became sharper the moment I tried to sit up. I groaned softly and dropped back against the pillow.

"What..."

My voice sounded strange, like I'd only just woken from a very long sleep. I blinked at the ceiling before slowly looking around my room.

I was in bed. The curtains had already been drawn open, allowing the pale morning light to spill across the room.

Mona's POVThe first thing I felt was the headache. It throbbed behind my eyes, dull at first, then it became sharper the moment I tried to sit up. I groaned softly and dropped back against the pillow."What..."My voice sounded strange, like I'd only just woken from a very long sleep. I blinked at the ceiling before slowly looking around my room.I was in bed. The curtains had already been drawn open, allowing the pale morning light to spill across the room.My shoes were gone and my phone rested neatly on the bedside table. And lying over the blanket, folded with surprising care, was a black suit jacket.I frowned. It took me a second to recognize it.Adonis's.My fingers brushed against the smooth fabric. "...Why is this here?" I searched my memory but found nothing at first. Then...a flash came forth. The swimming pool. Cold night air and strong hands catching me before I fell.Another flash. >> "What did you drink?"My breath caught as aother memory crashed into me. I remembered

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Whether I do or don't

Adonis's POVI had noticed she wasn't in the house and wondered where she had trailed off to. Then I saw Vivian come into the house from outside and my instinct told me she must have been with Mona so I decided to go check out myself, while pretending to scan the estate ground.Outside, the night air was chilly. Was she cold? I sighted her from a short distance and behind my mask, my eyes squinted. What was she doing?I noticed that her movement wasn't exactly right, she was swaying from one side to another. I had already calculated her moves and knew there was a possibility, she'd fall into the pool so I started moving fast toward her. I got there just in time as she was about to fall into the pool, and pulled her back. She crashed into my chest before she even realized she was falling. My hand locked around her waist on instinct while the other caught her arm.For a brief moment, she simply stayed there. Looking up at me. Her eyes met the silver mask, wide and unfocused, as though s

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    A Familiar Stranger

Mona's POVI couldn't sleep. And that was becoming a habit I didn't like. Blackwood Manor was too quiet at night. During the day, there was always something to distract me—the servants moving around, Grandfather asking about my day, the endless questions I still had about this strange place I now called home. But when the lights dimmed and the corridors became silent, my thoughts became louder. I even found myself thinking about Vivian and I didn't know why. She had only arrived a few hours ago, but somehow, she already seemed like she belonged here more than I did.Well, maybe because she actually did. She knew the manor, the servants, grandfather and more importantly, she knew Adonis. I pushed those thoughts away and walked downstairs in search of a glass of water. At least, that was what I told myself. The faint sound of voices stopped me before I reached the kitchen. I slowed down.It was strange. The kitchen was usually one of the quietest places in the manor. The servants worked

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    An Unexpected Guest

Mona's POVBreakfast at Blackwood Manor was much quieter than I expected. Grandfather was already seated when I walked into the dining room. Mrs. Harper stood nearby while two maids moved silently around the long table, placing dishes one after another.Adonis sat opposite Arthur, dressed in a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled neatly to his wrists. A newspaper rested in one hand while the other held a cup of black coffee. No milk at all.I frowned to myself. How could anyone willingly drink something that bitter?Mrs. Harper poured tea into my cup before stepping back. "Did you sleep well, Miss Hart?""I did," I lied.No one questioned it. Breakfast continued quietly. Arthur asked me whether I had settled into the manor, and I answered politely while Adonis remained focused on the newspaper before him.The silence wasn't uncomfortable anymore. Just... unusual. I reached for the butter, spread a little over my toast, then paused."Mrs. Harper?"She stepped forward. "Yes, Miss H

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Smiles and Secrets

Mona's POVI opened the envelope and brought out a single folded sheet. I unfolded it slowly and my eyes scanned the sheet in one glance. There was only one sentence.Don't trust everyone who smiles at you.A chill ran through me. I read it again and again, trying to understand the meaning behind the words. My brows slowly knitted together."What is this?"My first thought wasn't fear. It was confusion. The maid had said Mr.Lawson asked for the envelope to be given to me but why would he send me something like this?My fingers tightened around the paper and I turned it over. Could the maid be lying about it being from Lawson? But why?I looked back at the note once more before folding it carefully and slipping it into the top drawer of the bedside table.I wasn't sure why I kept it but I know I needed to meet Mr. Lawson again if he really sent this. The door creaked open and a head poked inside the room."Mrs Harper?"She smiled warmly and stepped inside. "Sorry to disturb but the dri

Mrs. Harper smiled at my question but didn't answer. "You'll meet him now."Curiosity settled uneasily in my chest as I followed her through another corridor of the manor. We passed tall windows overlooking the gardens. Housemaids moved quietly from room to room with fresh flowers while a steward crossed the hall carrying a stack of files. Mrs. Harper stopped before a pair of walnut doors and pushed one open. "This way."I stepped inside. The room was smaller than the drawing room downstairs but just as elegant. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves lined one wall, a fire crackled quietly in the marble fireplace despite the cool morning, and sunlight spilled across a polished oak table in the middle of the room. Two men were already there. One of them was Adonis. He sat exactly as he always did, his back straight, one arm resting on the chair while the other lay across a closed file on the table. He wore a charcoal shirt instead of the black suits I'd seen him in before, yet the silver mask r
