Chapter 5- Daddy's Angel

Chloe's POV

I could not say that I had not thought of that possiblity of Ethan wanting custody of my daughter, but I tried to push that to the back of my mind and focus on what was most important. But now he had thrown it in my face, I couldn't help the fear that I felt. I didn't want to lose my daughter. She was the most important thing to me in this world.

"I have been taking care of her by myself well enough!" I argued with him.

"Are you sure? Because you don't look like you have it all together right now."

Arrogant bastard!

"Ethan, please."

He shook his head. "I will see you tomorrow."

He then left without sparing me one more glance.

What would I do if he decides to take her from me? He had the money and connections after all. I took a deep breath. At least, he would help her. Her life was the most important to me at this point.

The next day came quickly, and like Ethan promised, he came to move Ari to a new hospital.

I had packed Ariana's things and had gotten her ready. I held her hand, and she followed me, carrying along her small white teddy bear. When we came outside, I saw him standing by the side of his car, looking all gorgeous as usual. My mind went to the time I met him five years ago. He had instantly caught my interest and messed with my womanly desires. I shook my head, knowing I should not be thinking that, this was all for my daughter, and he was engaged.

Ariana left me and went to hug him, and he crouched down to carry her into his arms, smiling at her. I was surprised at his reaction, as he seemed more stoic yesterday.

"Hello Angel, how are you doing today?"

"I am fine. My mommy said that you are moving me. Why?" Ari asked, staring at him curiously with her cute big eyes.

Ethan was taken aback by the question at first, but he was quick to regain his composure and smile. "I am moving you to another hospital where they will take very good care of you, and help you get better soon."

"I thought you were going to take me to your home."

He smiled. "I will. As soon as you get better. I promise you." He shot me a meaningful glance, and I felt the pang in my heart. I really could not bear the thought of my daughter being away from me.

He picked her up, and I could easily tell that he was already fond of her.

"Be careful with her, she is really smart." I said to him, trying to mask the pain in my voice.

"I believe it."

He opened the back of the car for her and gently placed her inside, making sure she was comfortable. He seemed to be really dedicated to her. For a moment, I wondered how it would be if he had been in her life as her father all along. I quickly shook my head at the thought, reminding myself that he was engaged again.

After he made sure she was fine, he came out and he bumped into me when he tried to turn. He looked at me for a moment too long and I looked away before it became awkward.

"I will stay at the back with my daughter." I then said without looking at him.

In between our journey, Ethan stopped in front of a shopping mall. I wondered if I should ask him why he stopped. I was not his favorite person at the moment, and he probably might not fancy talking to me. In the end I decided to ask. After all, he had me and my daughter in his car.

"Do you want to get something?"

He turned back. I could tell that he wanted to say something harsh to me, but his gaze softened when he saw Ariana staring at him.

"Yes. For Ariana. Please wait here." He then turned to her with a smile. "I will be back soon, angel."

"Okay." Ariana answered, excited about what he was going to buy, but she didn't ask.

A few minutes later, Ethan came out, carrying a huge pink teddy bear. I was sure that it was even bigger than Ariana. Her face lit up as she saw him.

Ethan then opened the door and gave it to her. "This is for you, Angel."

I frowned, looking at the object. There was a heart design imprinted in the center, with 'Daddy's Angel' written on it. He gave me a look, and I felt like he was giving me subtle signs, reminding me that he was going to take my daughter from me. Did he finally accept her as his daughter? He was making it look like he was competing with me. I didn't say anything to him anymore, and just sat still until we got to the hospital.

By then, Ariana had fallen asleep. She got easily exhausted, and I liked when she fell asleep, because she would sometimes be in pain if awake for too long.

Ethan came to carry her, while I tagged along.

We were given utmost attention, and Ariana was quickly admitted, given one of the biggest rooms. Ethan demanded for only the best care. It made me happy to see my daughter finally getting the care that she needed, but I it also saddened me that I couldn't be the one to provide for her.

Ariana stayed there for a week, before the doctors permitted her to go home for a while, before she comes back for chemotherapy. She even seemed a lot better than before, but I knew that she wasn't okay yet.

The problem now was that Ethan insisted on taking her to his house instead of mine.

"So you fucking mean that? I am perfectly capable of taking care of her on my own! Besides the agreement was that you will only take her when she is well." I seethed angrily to him after he placed Ariana in the car.

"But you will always need me when she falls sick?"

"Look, I appreciate your help. I really do, but you cannot take her from me."

"If she is indeed my daughter, then I am not offering you 'help', I am only doing my duty as her father."

I rolled my eyes. I could already tell that he already believed her to be his daughter. I could see it in his eyes from the way he looks at her.

I sighed. "Fine. I will come as well."

"You will come live with me?" He asked, with one of his brows raised. He was obviously not expecting that from me.

I knew that it was wrong, as he had a fiancee, but I was going to stay until we finally come to an agreement. I even believed that his fiancee would support me being with my child. Maybe I could talk to her and get her to talk to Ethan for me.

When we got to his mansion, Ariana came out first, struggling to her carry her new teddy bear plus her old one. Ethan had also gotten her some more plush toys and barbie dolls, and even a doll house.

"Let me hold that for you, Ari." I said, offering to carry the big teddy bear, and she gave it to me.

"Do you mind holding this for me, Ethan?" She gave him her old teddy, and Ethan readily took it from her. "These two are my favourite. Mom bought this for me the first day I went to the hospital. I also have some back at home that Aunt Bonnie got for me."

Ethan smiled tenderly at her. "You deserve it all."

Ariana grinned. "Come show me and my mom to our rooms. Mom seems tired. Is she sick too?"

"Ari..." I called, but Ethan already turned to me, his gaze narrowing. He seemed to be examining me. "Don't worry, I'm fine."

He then returned his gaze to Ariana, and she filled his ears with stories of their life back home, not failing to ask him about his own.

When we got to Ariana's room, even I gasped in surprise. The room was big and beautiful. She even had a pink swing and slide inside. I saw a fancy pink and silver tiara on the table, together with a wand. Ariana who was a fan of princess cartoons would definitely love it.

"Woooah!" Ariana exclaimed. "This room is for me?" She asked Ethan, her eyes filled with both excitement and disbelief.

"Everything is yours, Angel."

Ariana's smile suddenly fell, and my brows furrowed, fearing that something was going to happen to her.

"Why do you not like my mom, Ethan?" She asked curiously.
