“Of course, this hospital accepts breast milk donors. If you want to donate, just go to the baby care unit on the fourth floor. But before that, you have to take a health test.”

Elizabeth gave a faint smile. “Alright, nurse. Thank you.”

After finishing the administrative process, she walked toward the health examination room and then went up to the fourth floor, as directed by the cashier earlier.

Elizabeth knew very well where the baby care unit was. Alex, her son, had once been treated there. When he was born, Alex had to stay in the incubator because he swallowed too much amniotic fluid. The tiny baby was born with bluish lips and without a cry.

Since then, the nursery had become a familiar place to her. Almost every day she brought breast milk for her child.

This hospital… held too many memories.

The place where Ibnu was born.

And the place where he took his last breath.

Elizabeth’s chest tightened. But she quickly took a deep breath, trying to stay strong. At last, she arrived in front of the nursery door.

“Excuse me, Nurse,” she said as she stepped inside.

Three nurses were on duty. One of them turned. “Yes, miss. Can I help you?”

Indeed, Elizabeth’s appearance still looked like a teenager. Not many would think she had already given birth.

“I want to donate breast milk,” Elizabeth finally said.

“Oh, please come in.”

The nurse smiled warmly. Elizabeth stepped inside. The room was full of tiny baby cribs. The sound of crying came from several corners, yet one of them sounded so much like Alex’s cry.

Her eyes burned. She almost burst into tears, if only the nurse hadn’t spoken. “So you want to donate breast milk?”

Elizabeth took a deep breath, then nodded. “Yes.”

“What a coincidence. There’s a baby who really needs breast milk. The baby was born premature and cannot be given formula,” the nurse explained.

“Oh, which one is the baby, Nurse?” Elizabeth wanted to know which child would become her foster baby.

“This one.” The nurse pointed to an incubator.

“He was born weighing only 1.2 kilograms. It has been a week, but his weight hasn’t increased at all. His mother has never once come here. Usually, only his father and grandmother visit,” the nurse explained.

Elizabeth froze, staring at the tiny baby who kept crying. Slowly, she smiled. Unconsciously, her fingers slipped through the small opening of the incubator, touching the fragile cheek.

The baby opened his eyes and looked at her.

“Hello… how are you? My name is Elizabeth,” she said softly.

The little lips trembled as if in response.

“I pray your weight will increase soon. So that you can leave this box and see the morning sun. Sunlight is very good for newborns.” Elizabeth’s smile bloomed, her voice full of affection.

The baby, wearing only a diaper, kept staring at her.

“Sorry, whose breast milk is this?” one of the nurses suddenly asked in doubt. It seemed impossible for such a young girl to have breast milk.

“This is mine, Nurse,” Elizabeth answered firmly.

“Your breast milk?” The nurse was surprised. Her two colleagues also turned toward her.

“Yes,” Elizabeth replied with a gentle smile.

“But… how do you have breast milk?” another nurse asked.

“I’m married, and I have a child,” Elizabeth answered softly.

“Oh, I see… we thought you were still in school,” said one of the nurses, embarrassed.

Elizabeth only smiled at that.

“Here, Nurse. The milk.” Elizabeth placed a bag on the table and took out several frozen breast milk pouches.

“All of them are labeled with the date and time.” The nurse checked the labels carefully.

“Yes, I stored them in the freezer. When I pumped, I didn’t know who I would give them to.” She showed eight neatly frozen milk pouches.

“Wow, that’s a lot,” the nurse said in awe.

Elizabeth smiled faintly.

“But… what about your own child, if the milk is donated like this?”

Elizabeth fell silent for a moment. Then her voice broke softly. “My child passed away… a week ago. That’s why I keep pumping. I still have too much milk.”

The room suddenly fell silent.

“We’re so sorry… please stay strong,” one of the nurses said with sympathy.

Elizabeth only nodded.

“Oh, by the way, a few days ago I had the flu, so I took some medicine. I’ve written the name of the medicine on the label. Other than that, I don’t have any infectious or hereditary diseases. I’m healthy. Here’s the medical certificate from the test I just took downstairs.” Elizabeth handed over some of the labeled milk pouches and the health certificate she had just received minutes ago.

“If this milk can’t be used, just throw it away.”

The nurse nodded. “Alright, miss. We’ll consult the pediatrician. But usually, medicine like paracetamol is fine.”

Elizabeth smiled. “Alright then. I’ll take my leave.”

“Yes, miss. Thank you.”

But before going home, Elizabeth returned to the incubator of the premature baby. She smiled warmly and slipped her finger inside once more.

“Goodbye for now, little one… I’ll come back again.”

Meanwhile, Nathan came to the hospital to see his son’s condition.

He had spent the whole day looking for a breast milk donor, but the results were very disappointing. He was almost in despair, not knowing where else to search.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Nathan,” greeted one of the nurses in the nursery.

Nathan only gave a brief nod. His eyes were fixed on his son who was sleeping peacefully. “I haven’t found a breast milk donor for my baby,” he said wearily.

But strangely, the tiny baby seemed so calm.

The nurse smiled. “It’s alright, sir. Earlier this afternoon, a mother donated breast milk here. We told her that her milk would be given to your baby.”

Nathan’s eyes widened. “Is that true?”

Mawar, Hermawan, and Nathan finally arrived at Martin and Julia’s wedding. Their presence was immediately greeted by Mery with overwhelming enthusiasm.Mawar gave a thin, sarcastic smile when she saw the socialite’s face. Mery had always acted sweet and overly friendly, but after learning her true nature, Mawar no longer had any intention of maintaining the closeness they once had. She had always been disgusted by hypocrisy. The wedding was held quite luxuriously. The presence of the conglomerate family only made Mery even prouder. Hermawan and Nathan were well-known businessmen, while Mawar was widely recognized as a prestigious fashion designer.“Mrs. Mawar, I didn’t expect you to come. I honestly wasn’t sure you’d attend a small event like this,” Mery said in a tone meant to sound humble, though it was filled with false modesty.“Who said small? I think this wedding is already very extravagant,” Mawar replied with a mocking smile.“Well, compared to the elite parties you usually at

“You seem to be having so much fun. You didn’t even notice I’ve been standing here for a while.”The handsome-looking man smiled softly while watching Elizabeth.“Doctor John.”Elizabeth ignored his question and immediately called his name.“Thank goodness. I thought you had forgotten who I am.”Doctor John let out a light chuckle.Elizabeth laughed a little as well.“How could I forget? You’re someone I could never forget.”She smiled shyly as she said it.To Elizabeth, it was nothing more than a harmless joke. But for Doctor John, her words warmed his heart in an instant. He even felt a bit flustered.“Promise me, don’t ever forget me.”It felt like falling in love all over again. They hadn’t even been apart for long, yet he already missed her terribly. He had tried calling her so many times, but her phone was off—and that disappointed him.“The roses here are so beautiful. This is my first time seeing a rose garden like this. They’re gorgeous and well taken care of.”Elizabeth show

After spending quite a long time crying and lamenting her fate, Elizabeth finally stepped out of her room and headed to baby Noah’s room. She thought the handsome baby had fallen asleep from waiting too long. But she was wrong. Noah was happily playing with his own hands and feet, as if he had been waiting for Elizabeth to appear.“Sorry, Noah. Mommy took so long.” Elizabeth smiled and kissed his chubby cheek. The handsome baby laughed widely, showing his red gums. Her heart instantly melted. “Come on, let’s go downstairs,” she said while planting another kiss on his cheek. No matter how bad her mood was, Elizabeth never showed it in front of Noah. Whenever she was with the little boy, she tried her best to be a warm and cheerful mother.Noah smiled, waving his hands excitedly.“What a smart boy.” Elizabeth carried him and went downstairs.“Eliza, come join breakfast,” Mawar called as soon as she saw them passing by.“Yes, Madam.” Elizabeth answered softly. Once again, Elizabeth felt a deep, piercing pain. She wanted to end the call, but Julia kept talking. The woman sounded friendly on the surface, yet every word she spoke revealed how much she despised Elizabeth.“I will work at Mommy Mawar’s house after I return from here. I promise I will repay the debt. If I can’t repay it by working as a maid, then I will repay it with money. How I get that money is my business,” Elizabeth said, holding back her anger and emotions. She felt completely toyed with by Martin. Her hatred grew stronger with every word Julia said. It became clear that Martin truly thought she was a fool.“You’re planning to sell yourself?” Julia asked, pretending to be shocked.Elizabeth let out a cold, sarcastic smile. A seductress like Julia was used to doing filthy things, sleeping with married men until she became pregnant. No wonder her mind was filthy too. She must think Elizabeth was just as low as she was.“I’d rather die than sell myself. How I earn my money is

“Martin, my phone battery is dying. When I get to Pekanbaru later, I’m planning to look for a new one. The case is also worn out, so I had to tie it with a rubber band to keep it from falling apart.”Martin went silent at Elizabeth’s explanation. He even wondered if there were still shops selling batteries and cases for an old phone like hers.“My battery is about to die,” Elizabeth added, wanting to end the call as soon as possible. Every time she heard Martin’s voice, the ache in her chest grew sharper, pulsing painfully.“Darling, what are you doing? Fix your clothes first. The event is about to start.”Elizabeth heard a gentle, lilting voice calling for Martin. It was clearly his new wife.“I’m still on the phone with Elizabeth,” Martin answered honestly.“Oh, give me the phone. I want to talk to her.”Julia smiled as she said that, and it made Martin happy. It meant Julia no longer minded the money issue from the other day.“Hello, Elizabeth,” Julia greeted softly.Elizabeth took

“Baby, where are you now?” Martin asked in an exceptionally gentle voice. In the past, Elizabeth would instantly smile every time Martin called her that. But now, that same endearment made her stomach twist, leaving her nauseous and wanting to vomit.“I’m stopping at a food stall,” Elizabeth answered carelessly.“Have you reached Pekanbaru?” Martin asked again. From Jakarta to Pekanbaru, traveling by bus would take about a day and a half, simply because of the long distance.“Not yet, Martin. Still on the road.”“Where exactly are you now, baby?” Martin grew even more curious. He wanted to video call her to confirm her location, but Elizabeth’s old-fashioned phone always became the perfect excuse. He used to love the fact that Elizabeth used such an outdated phone. It allowed her to remain unaware of everything he did behind her back. But now, he regretted never giving her an Android phone.“I’m already in Pelalawan Regency. I’m in the Sorek area now,” Elizabeth explained in detail, a
