25. Gift in a Red Bow Tie

I had hoped it enlightened her against the false pretenses her brother had fed her. I was at the veranda when the guys came over. 

“So, it’s all good?” Beck was the first one to ask. They had their place in the house with easy access to the main. 

“Yep.” I sipped my whiskey. I and liquor were not best friends. I wanted a clear head, and it wasn’t a help.

“Yet you’re here.” Linden joined in, and so as Devin.

“A lot is going on her head. That sick son of bitch fed her with so many lies, and I have to prove it to her, even if it takes forever.”

“Easy. Just be honest to your wife,” Devin pointed out.

“Easier said than done,” Beck replied. “She’s not ready for the truth.”

I groaned to stop him. They didn’t know the whole truth, except Beck. For Linden—not entirely. 

Devin hadn’t wholly earned my trust. He was in bed with my mortal enemy—the Greer might still have influenced him. I
