By morning the mood had changed. They were jolted from their sleep by the shimmering sunlight. It struck their faces, Zara opened her eyes first, yawning as she laid beside sleeping Nat on the bed at the balcony. Nat woke up too as if on cue.

“Good morning queen”

“Morning my King” she said

He reached out to kiss her, his breath felt clammy like her tongue in the morning.

They sat at the royal dining table, intricately trimmed with gold and a matching mirror on the wall. Breakfast was fruits and pancakes with syrups and coffee. They ate in silence.

“It must have been very interesting growing up,” she said. “All this interior, the decor, it’s fascinating”

“Wait till I give you a tour of the grounds” he said proudly. “There’s a range and a garden”

“You have a range?” she exclaimed, surprised. “Oh my god! I love horses” she was suddenly childish. Nat smiled

“There a lot for you to ride on apart from my cock” he said

“I’m anticipating” she rolled her eyes, still smiling.

“My guard would take you there. I hope you don’t fall and break a leg”

“If I do, you could fix it for me in bed”

“You mean twist it further”

“Dang! Daddy! stop that. You should be gentle with that heavy stick sometimes”

Nat gave a deep evil laughter.

“Not when I’m alive and young. I ruin holes”

“You ruin my hole; Point of correction. Not just any hole”

“Sure” he raised both hands up as if to show that he couldn’t argue that.

“This is good” she gulped her coffee. Her plate was littered with leftover syrups. “Imma go use the bathroom” she said as he was there reading a newspaper.

As she entered the room, she saw his phone beep with a notification sound. She didn’t give it any attention but then it beeped again and again up to 4 times and now she was curious. It was a message from Nina, It read:

“Nat fucken answer your call. Why are you ignoring me? Your son has an event to attend soon. Johnny’s been asking about you all week. I’m tired of giving him excuses. You better be there!”

She concluded the message with angry emojis.

Zara stood there suspended in the air almost about collapsing. Anger froze her insides. She was aflame with hate for him. He had been lying to her all along. Had manipulated and betrayed her. Nat, her precious Nat, the brain-shifting dick Nat, colonizer of her vaginal territory has a wife and a son?

She quickly wore her clothes from last night, the black silk dress he had bought her, held her heels in hand, took his phone and walked back downstairs with a motion of rage.

“I’m leaving” she said with a squeezed up  face

Nat quipped. “To?” he was equally bewildered

She showed him the phone

Nat took a glance at it and was speechless. He put his hand on his forehead in gross disappointment.

“Shit!” he said.  He had fucked up this time. There was no framing. It was the truth in the open.

She felt used like her senses were toyed with. Disgust and irking disdain roiled hot in her.

“I can explain Zara, I was gonna tell you. Look! listen to me. It’s not what you—

She cut him in “I’m done with you”. She could not bear the sting of betrayal. She walked away.

“At least I could drop you. It’s a really long walk to the gate of the estate” Nat beckoned on her in a plea.

But she didn’t listen and kept walking. He reached out to Harry and told him to drive her home.

“Yes sir!” Harry humbly bowed. It was obvious that his boss and this woman, who only god knows what had occurred with both of them last night at the balcony, had gotten into a fight.

Zara was gonna turn away from the offer  but as she stared at the Cadillac Escalade, she had no choice but to hop into it. Perhaps this would be the last time she would ride in his car. She had to relish it.

Nat stood there lost in the shock of the moment. Zara looked at the trees hurdling past from the window and weeped.

“Teasing with your ex, and right in my face too,” Zara screamed.“What the hell?” he looked at her like she was a madwoman, struggling to make sense of her enraged fury.“Danielle, or whatever, you calm her,” he said.“Hey!” he pointed his fingers at her, his eyes wide open.“You need to calm down,” he added, walking gently toward her at a slow, catlike pace.“Don’t come near—or else—” she held a knife from the counter toward him.“Stop. You’re being dramatic. Danielle is an ex. She’s in the past.”Zara shrank. She dropped the knife and went toward the bed.“I hate her,” she said. “She’s a bitch. She speaks with such subtle mockery.”Nat watched her. Fear glared on his face. He went to her and took her hand.“I get that. It’s okay to feel insecure. But throwing a glass? That’s insane.”Zara got up angrily.“You’re the one that’s insane!” She went to the bathroom and locked herself in for about an hour. When she emerged, she had water on her face and her nightgown on.She sank onto he

The Gulfstream 500 was one of his toys. It was meticulously crafted and lavishly adorned. The woodwork was rich—certainly mahogany, coated in a glossy polish. The cabin was warm and wide, with plush in cream-colored leather seats. Nat had his aviators on, jeans and a leather jacket paired with a face cap. Beside him sat, of course, Zara, his billionaire wife. She had initially balked at the trip, especially at the sudden announcement but he had persistently persuaded her, insisting she was needed for his personal assistance. “Personal assistance indeed,” she teased.Besides, the conference itself, The Titans Forum—a gathering of business magnates, titans and trailblazers in their fields was a good place for her to make contacts. Zara dropped her handbag by the side table and adjusted her sunglasses. She had a simple short gown, and a wide vintage cap.Now they were choosing from a variety of displayed wines. “We’d have the Pinot Noir,” Nat told Julia, his private jet chef. She wa

After so many months, she decided to visit the nearby gym. She was motivated by a bold enlightenment—a dawning sparked by her last FaceTime call with her siblings. It wasn’t that she hadn’t noticed the rolls of fat clinging to her sides, or the tugging, labored sway of her buttocks due to her added weight; it was that she needed someone to point it out—to confirm that her hypothetical observations were indeed true.“Isla, I’m headed to the gym,” she called, grabbing her jug of water, dressed in her gym outfit—tight grey sweatpants and a shirt that outlined her body shape. Her face, free of the creases and grease of makeup, made her look young, ethereal, and pretty.Isla didn’t reply. Dinner with Dame Vivienne Wolfe, Nat’s mom, was more like an interview of a prospective suitor. She had longed for a for a suitable partner for far too long for her only precious son—one who fit into their echelon and social class. Her thoughts were always attuned toward marriage, imagining the wedding and her grandchildren, rather than viewing any of his girlfriends as just girlfriends; they were potential wives.Nat had always been an explorative son. He had dated women from across the globe. Once, an Ethiopian girl—slender, tall, with a surprising curve of breasts, her face startlingly symmetrical like art. She had been nubile, a model who once placed in the top two at the annual Miss Africa pageant. Then, a Japanese woman, striking with sharp features, her hair a wavy blonde burnish, who held Nat as if he were her baby. She had appeared fifteen years older than him. His mother had feared a scandal. His house, large and foreboding, was more than appealing to Zara. They passed the w

She sat before her laptop, FaceTime turned on, waiting for the call to connect. The FaceTime chime assured her that it had.Zara smiled as she saw her siblings—John and Jean. They were twins who had just graduated from high school.“Sis!” Jean exclaimed, flashing her teeth to reveal silver braces. She wore a long curly wig, a pink crop top, and a miniskirt. Oh my God,” Zara said, placing her hands on her chest. “Oh my God! I’ve missed y’all so much,” she added, her voice soft and almost tearful.“We’ve missed you more,” they echoed comically, mocking her babyish tone.John, a straight-A student and classic nerd, had a calm, harmless demeanor, but beneath it lay a scrutinizing, hawk-eyed watchfulness.
