The Runaway Bride
RAYMOND
I stared at her with so much curiosity filling my mind. Why did she run away from getting married to me back then? Did she find me unworthy of her? Was that why she ran in the first place? Maybe she didn't like my status as an illegitimate heir of my family..
It wasn't also my choice to get married to her, but I wanted to fulfill a dying wish.
I continued to watch her sleep as different questions filled my mind. Vera used to be a very beautiful woman, I've seen her once before, her skin was as fair as snow and her hair was soft as silk and shiny.
What has happened to her? She looked so pale, worked out and old. What did Francis Coleman do to my betrothed?.
I clenched my fists hard, thinking about all the time she spent together with him..
I did my findings about him, he was not a good man. Francis Coleman was involved in cyber fraud and other illegal business activities. How could Vera fall in love and elope with a man as cocky as him?
Her face seemed so small, and she was very thin. She obviously didn't have a good life with him or even enjoyed her marriage with Francis Coleman. He must've made her go through a lot.
Even after everything, she was still so beautiful. I couldn't help but stare at her and get lost in the sight of her fairy looking face. Vera might've lost her dignity for getting married to a coward, but I won't let her suffer more once she accepts me.
I moved my hand slowly towards her face, trying to get a better feel of her soft skin. Her hair covered a part of her face and I slowly pushed it backwards.
She snuffled in her breath, she seemed so stressed out and seeing her feel this way provoked me the most. I must make Francis pay for what he'd done to Vera.
Picking up my mobile phone and leaving the bedroom, I stared at her one last time before leaving as I wondered how much longer she was going to sleep.
A message from Collins popped up from my phone screen and I read it briefly. I had a meeting to attend which would take me two hours before I came back to meet her.
Hopefully, Vera will be awake then and I'll have a chat with her. The marriage agreement must be accomplished, especially now that she is back to fight for her inheritance from the hands of her step mother and sister.
Immediately I reached outside the bedroom, I met Collins waiting for me with some files in his hands. I took a single document out of the file and I read it as we both strolled off, heading downstairs.
“Collins, are these all true?” I asked him and he nodded. “Yes, they are. And there's even more.” He explained.
“What?” I was stunned, it was unbelievable.
“Boss, Mr Coleman has even penetrated into our company with the help of his father's relationship with your father, and I know that he is up to no good. I've sent someone to investigate and find out his motives” Collins narrated to me.
I couldn't believe that the cunning man had the guts to try out my company with his fraudulent actions. I wasn't going to make it easy for him. I promise.
With my fists clenched tightly, I smiled briefly as I read the front page of the file completely. “Francis Coleman is going to regret ever trying to mess with me after he's messed with my woman” I said.
Collin's eyes were fixed to my face as he carefully watched my mood as I spoke. He was trying to figure out my plans, but I had too many and he couldn't tell what they all were.
“Collins,” I called out his name and he quickly answered. “Don't you think it's better if I meet Mr Coleman myself? To at least make him a business offer in the company?”
“W– what? Boss, this man is a fraudster” Collins yelled out immediately.
I looked at him and I smiled. “Yes, I know. And I've seen his capabilities. I think it's just better that I offer him this, so he doesn't have to stress himself into falling inside my trap. What do you think?” I asked him.
He shook his head, feeling uncomfortable with my words. “Hmm, boss, you know what's best. If you think that getting into business with him is the best, then I'll support you. When do I set a meeting?” He asked him.
“Tomorrow, as soon as possible. Contact him right away if you may. But I need to be facing Francis Coleman tomorrow” I declared.

VERA
I woke up feeling a bit of pain in my head and ache on my body. Glaring around where I was laying, the atmosphere seemed peaceful but I couldn't recognize where I was—which sent a little bit of fear into my heart.
I stood up from the comfortable king-sized bed I was laying on and I walked barefooted towards the window. I stared outside and I realized that it was already evening. The bright atmosphere of the bedroom didn't allow me to notice.
Outside the mansion looked extremely huge and beautiful, reminding me of my family villa which I abandoned years ago. I wish I had a way of contacting my family and going back there.
Just by thinking of it, I felt my heart ache sharply and I held my chest quickly. “I will never forgive you, Francis, for doing this to me” I vowed, my voice stuttering into a teary tone and I knew that I was about to cry. I quickly controlled myself. I had to get over it.
Even though I've lost everything and all my inheritance was probably in the hands of my evil stepmom and her daughter. For the past few years, I never imagined that I would ever think of getting my inheritance back after being with Francis.
I loved him so much which made me turn a blind eye to all of that.
My hands were holding tightly onto the window pane but I just had to let go. I recalled that I still didn't know where I was and I had to find that out immediately.
Still walking barefooted, I head outside the bedroom trying to go downstairs
Although I didn't know my way around or where I was heading, I just continued to walk down the long hallway filled with so many different bedrooms. I finally found the staircase and I sauntered downstairs to the huge living room.
The place was totally empty. Even though I could recall that a man appeared to me right before I passed out, I didn't know who he was and why he brought me here in the first place so I just had to leave. I wasn't ready to face another problem in my life as I was yet to figure it out and plan my next move.
All I wanted to do right now is to visit grandpa's tombstone at the graveyard.
Vera's POVThe first thing I heard was the continuous beep of a machine. My eyes fluttered open slowly, the white ceiling above making me sqùint. I blinked again, my vision adjusting to the brightness around me. I felt cold air touching my cheeks, the light smell of antiseptic in the air.I was so confused, trying to remember where I was and how I got here. Then it hit me. The white walls, the machine, the faint smell of antiseptic, I was in the hospital. But why?Just then, a rush of my memories came back. I had been with Reymond at home, eating, talking, laughing and just enjoying a meal as a married couple when I felt the weakness in my hands, then my chest had gotten tight, my vision became blurry and I couldn't feel my hands again. Then darkness. The last thing I saw was Reymond's panicked face.Speaking of–My eyes drifted to my side, and there he was.Reymond.Asleep in the chair beside my bed, his head laying backwards on the chair. He looked tired and exhausted. He was in hi
Diana's POVI stood frozen, the chill of the evening breeze enveloping around me like a cool blanket. There she was, my mother standing at my doorstep with tears in her eyes. She held her purse to her chest like she had a huge sum of money in it and was trying to protect it at all cost.I wanted to tease her or laugh but this wasn't a laughing matter. She would only cry more."Diana," she said, almost in a whisper. "Why haven’t you been answering my calls? I was worried."I rolled my eyes. I'm not in the mood for this at all. "If you came here to scold me or tell me how disappointed you are, don’t bother. I already know."Her face fell. Her eyes were full of emotion as she stepped closer. "No, baby, no. That’s not why I’m here. I just… I needed to see you. I needed to be sure you were okay. I'm your mother after all." Her voice cracked, She was shivering too, and just like that, my walls crumbled. I couldn't leave her like that. I opened the door wider and stepped aside. "Come in."S
Vera's POVI stood in front of the glass-paneled building Reymond had dropped me off at. It had several floors above, the morning light reflecting off the sleek tall glass building. I took a moment to take a deep breath. I was so excited and nervous at the same time.I pushed the glass door open and entered the building. The place was really beautiful and elegant. It had cream marble floors, a long desk sat at the far end with a woman seated behind it, typing on a sleek keyboard. Then on the other side was a door leading to the other sides, I guess.Framed photos of models in different, unique poses covers lined the walls. Places they also featured in magazines, shows and events were also lined up in picture frames on the wall.At the other side were chairs, a long roll of chairs for people to sit down. From the look of things, the woman sitting there was the receptionist given she was the only person I saw so I approached her.“Good morning,” I said as I got to the desk. The recept
Vera's POVAnna's eyes sparkled the moment I told her I was pregnant. Her face lit up, and she reached across the table to hold my hand. She couldn't stop smiling and her smile put me in a very happy mood. She was basically more happy than I and Reymond combined, the parents of the child. It felt so good to have her back "Vera! That's amazing news! Oh my God, congratulations!" she said, grinning from ear to ear.I laughed softly, feeling warmth spread across my chest. "Thanks. I haven't told a people yet, but I just... I wanted you to know.""I'm so honored! This is big, girl! And Reymond? He must be over the moon!"“Yes, we both are.”Anna squeezed my hand again. "I'm happy for you. You deserve this happiness. After everything you've been through.""Thank you," I said quietly, smiling at her.“I'm sure it's going to be a pretty baby girl just like You.”Woah. I had not even thought about that“Let's not go that far, Anna.”“Okayy.” We laughed. Dinner continued after, with laughter
Diana's POVThe walls of my apartment felt like they were closing in, I saw curled up on the couch, a half empty glass of wine in my hand. I have been consuming a lot of wine lately and I couldn't care less, it calmed me down. My phone lay face up on the table, still and silent. I had called Francis five times now and he was still ignoring my calls. Each ring that ended in voicemail felt like a knife being twisted deep into my chest. I tossed the phone aside and sighed. He was a coward, I couldn't care less if he picked my call or not.“Bastard,” I hissed. “Spineless, weak coward.”All this because of that silly video. I had counted on Francis to handle Vera, to bury her and everything she stood for. Instead, he left me so alone and was angry, how stupid of him. And Reymond? I am going to get you back for what he did.We made a promise. He had sworn that no matter how bad things got, he won't expose me. That video was supposed to be between us and now he uploaded it and ruined my repu
Vera's POVThe internet had a way of making things feel unreal until they weren’t. For the past few weeks, I’d carried a huge weight I couldn't name, one that pressed against my chest every time I opened my phone and saw that message of losing my modelling contract. But now… the silence is gone.It was replaced by something else—relief. Real, honest relief.Reymond had posted the video. And just like that, the truth was out.People had seen the part where I had defended myself against Diana. The damage to Diana’s lie was slow and sharp. And best of all, my name was finally cleared.I sat at the edge of the bed, my phone in my hand. Notifications kept pouring in, but I ignored them for now. All I could do was sit there and breathe.Reymond came into the room, towel in hand, drying his face. “You saw it?”I looked up at him, smiled, and nodded. “Yes. I did. Thank you.”He crossed over to me and knelt down, resting his head on my thighs. “Don’t thank me. You didn’t deserve any of what Di
Reymond's POVI left Francis’ place after I sent him the video. Every second I spent watching the video again while he sat there in stunned silence only made my blood boil more. I had to grip the steering wheel tighter on my way back home, trying to stop the heat rising in my throat.Diana had crossed every line. And Francis, I couldn’t even begin to understand how he sat with that kind of guilt. He looked like a man who had watched the ground disappear beneath his feet. Good. He should feel it.When I walked into the house, I found Vera curled up on the couch, a blanket wrapped around her like a baby. She looked up, her eyes red but clear. Not crying anymore. Just waiting.I dropped the keys on the table and walked straight to her."You don’t have to worry," I said, bending down in front of her. "I’m going to get you that contract back."She blinked, confusion flashing across her face. "Rey, it’s gone. They terminated it. Francis made sure of that.""Francis is also the one who’s goi
Reymond’s POV“Is this the kind of image we want representing the Andreas family brand?”I stared at it, anger rushing to my head.No. Not because she looked bad but she looked incredible and sexy. But because the board would never understand. They saw scandal in everything.I didn’t call her. I couldn’t. Not with the way we left things. I will talk to her when I get home. When I got home, she was in the bedroom, standing near the mirror, brushing her hair. Peaceful. Cold.“Vera,” I said. She didn’t answer.I stepped in. “What’s the meaning of those images?”She didn’t even blink. “Not now, Reymond. I’m tired.”“This isn’t just about you,” I snapped. “A board member reached out. You’re the CEO’s wife. You can’t be doing this kind of modeling.”She turned. “There it is. The control. The ego. Trying to turn me into what you want.”“I’m trying to protect you.”“No, you’re trying to silence me. Again.”I pulled out my phone and showed her the text. She barely glanced at it. “I just need y
Diana's POVThat stupid person that ordered me hadn't sent me a message yet. I kept replaying everything in my head. From Reymond showing me evidence of me and then that text message. The message came in at 11:47 a.m."Meet me at the Glass Orchid restaurant. 12:00 p.m. Don’t be late. Come alone."No name. No details. Just instructions, like someone had the right to order me around.I stared at the text for a minute before throwing my phone on the bed. The audacity. After what Reymond did in our last meeting, I wasn’t in the mood for unknown text orders. But curiosity got the better of me. That, and wanting to destroy Vera were the only things I derived joy from. After that, I got a call from my mother.I didn't say anything when I picked the call, I waited for her to talk.“Hello, Diana. How are You?”“I'm fine, mum. Why are you calling me?” I said, sounding uninterested. “You're my daughter. I'm just checking up on you.” “Last I remembered, you didn't support me so except you want
