Amelie’s POV

I was a ball of nerves. I wanted to protect these children with all of my heart. I know they wouldn’t want for anything material with Carrington, but they deserved a home and love. I hoped one day they would accept me as a mother figure. I wanted to give them everything in their childhood that I missed out on. It was terrifying to wait for their decision. I couldn’t force them to choose me, and the lack of control had me on pins and needles.

“I want to live with you, Princess and Naffin,” Eliza squealed through her toothless grin.

Eliza jumped out of her seat and ran over to me. She hopped up on my lap and hugged me. I smiled so hard that a tear rolled down my face.

Logan sat quietly. He stared down at his plate. Then, slowly, he started to speak.
