24. A Night Before The Civil Marriage

It was our Bachelorette night, and I found myself sitting on an elevated platform in the ballroom of the estate, surrounded by a few friends. However, my mind was unsettled, and it felt as if my heart was being torn apart.

Tomorrow, I will be marrying my kidney donor. An event which should have brought me joy, but it didn't. Instead, I found myself continuously staring at the door and gazing out the window, almost hoping that Emma would emerge from the shadows, even though her presence wouldn't change the fact that I was getting married and would never be with her.

As the night deepened, it became clear to me that I was asking shooting stars for a dance in the daylight where wishes shy away from the sun's truth. Like, I was dreaming of snowflakes in the desert of reality where wishes melt before they touch the ground.
