Maxwell POV

I had declined the damn ball.

I remember staring at the glowing invitation on my desk that morning, feeling absolutely nothing. Five years ago, the idea of missing a gathering like that would’ve been unthinkable. I lived for rooms filled with power, wealth, and people pretending they mattered. But now? The thought of stepping into a ballroom felt like peeling open an old wound. Too many faces. Too many memories. Too much noise.

So I told my assistant to send my regrets. As always, the world could function perfectly without me.

Or so I thought.

I was sitting on the edge of my bed that evening, shirt half-buttoned, reading a report I couldn’t care less about, when my door opened without a knock. Only one person entered my room like she owned it.

Victoria.

She glided in with that intoxicating smile she used to win men twice her age. Her perfume hit me first—sweet, expensive, suffocating. She placed herself beside me, running her manicured fingers along my jaw like she had som

Amelia POVMy skin crawled long after Ethan’s words stopped echoing through the room.I lay stiffly on the bed, staring at the ceiling, but all I could see was that man’s face—Maxwell’s face—twisting, reforming, distorting in my mind as every terrible possibility Ethan described replayed itself. The room felt too quiet, too heavy, as if even the air was holding its breath. Ethan thought I was asleep. He’d kissed my forehead, whispered something I didn’t have the strength to respond to, and eventually left, the soft click of the door sealing me inside my own head. But I couldn’t sleep.I didn’t even blink. My pulse throbbed in my throat, hot and sickening, as Ethan’s words looped over and over.He followed you home.He cornered you.I got there just in time.He tried to force himself on you.A shiver tore through me—violent, involuntary. My stomach twisted. I pulled my knees to my chest, wrapping my arms around them as if I could squeeze the nausea out of my body.I wasn’t just disgust

Ethan POVThe moment we stepped inside the house, the silence wrapped around us like something alive—thick, heavy, suffocating. Amelia didn’t speak. Didn’t look at me. She carried Luke upstairs without meeting my eyes once, her movements stiff, mechanical, as if she’d left her body somewhere back at the gala. And I… I followed like a ghost. My pulse hammered in my ears, drowning out everything else. Each step up the stairs felt heavier than the last—as if I were walking toward a sentence instead of a bedroom. Amelia tucked Luke into bed gently, brushed his hair off his forehead, and kissed him goodnight with trembling lips. She didn’t tremble like that before tonight. She didn’t tremble like that unless she was scared. When she straightened and turned toward the hallway, I felt the smallest crack open in my chest. I wanted to reach for her. Wanted to anchor us back to something—anything that made sense. But my hand stayed at my side, useless, frozen. She walked into our room without w

  • The Billionaire’s Forgotten Bride   Chapter 86- Someone I know

Amelia POVThe house was unusually quiet. It was late—past midnight—and Ethan had stepped out hours ago to “handle something in the study.” I’d assumed it was a work call he’d forgotten to turn off for our family day. But as the silence stretched longer and longer, a knot began forming in my stomach.I slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Luke, and padded down the hallway. That’s when I heard it.A sharp, muffled crash. Then a voice—low, furious, unmistakable.Ethan.My pulse kicked up as I crept closer to the study door. A second voice rose in response—older, deeper, equally angry.Sylvester.I froze where I stood.I’d never personally witnessed Ethan and his father fight, but I’d sensed something strained between them from the very beginning. Ethan stiffened whenever Sylvester was mentioned. Sylvester looked at me with a strange cold calculation—as if measuring what role I played in something unseen. And Gus… Gus always seemed caught in the middle of something none of us fully un

Amelia POVThe moment the plane wheels kissed the Los Angeles runway, my stomach tightened—not from the landing, but from everything this city stirred in me. Luke’s small hand clutched mine as he pressed his face to the window.“Mommy,” he whispered, eyes wide, “is this our new home?”“No, sweetheart,” I murmured, brushing a curl from his forehead. “We’re just here for a little while.”He frowned in that thoughtful, too-mature way only Luke had. “But why did we come? Are we going back soon?”Before I could answer, Ethan spoke from beside us—smooth, calm, and controlled. “We’ll go back,” he said, reaching for Luke’s backpack. “As soon as Daddy finishes some things here.”Luke nodded slowly, trusting him. But my heart sank a little, because Ethan’s tone sounded exactly like it had yesterday—assuring, but withholding something. Something he wasn’t ready to say out loud.Los Angeles greeted us with bright sun and warmth that felt strange after weeks of winter back home. As we stepped out

Amelia POVThe morning light poured softly through the kitchen curtains, casting warm gold streaks across the countertop. I hummed quietly as I buttoned Luke’s shirt, his small laughter bubbling through the air. His joy was infectious — the kind of sound that made everything else fade, even the restless dreams that had haunted me through the night.“Hold still, little monster,” I teased, straightening his collar. He giggled and wriggled away. “Mommy, it’s perfect already!”I smiled, running a hand through his dark curls — so much like Ethan’s, yet something about his eyes always tugged at a part of me I couldn’t name. “There,” I said, smoothing his shirt. “Now go grab your bag before the bus comes.”As he darted off, I turned toward the sound of a low voice drifting from the study. Ethan’s. I wouldn’t have thought much of it if not for the tone — firm, hushed, and clipped in the way he spoke when it was something serious.“Yes, for all three of us,” I heard him say. A pause. “Book the
