MasukElaris’ POV
Two long years passed after that wedding morning, and Cassian maintained his distance from me completely, choosing to live in the west wing of the estate while treating me like a total stranger whenever our paths happened to cross in the quiet hallways.
He never sat down to eat dinner with me, he forgot my birthday twice without sending as much as a card, he ignored our wedding anniversaries entirely, and he made sure we were never left alone together in the same room for more than a few awkward minutes.
Even though my husband wanted nothing to do with me and blamed me for everything that went wrong, I continued to fulfill every single duty expected of a proper Virelli daughter-in-law, managing the household accounts, preparing meals for his family, and taking care of the massive estate without making a single sound or complaining about my situation.
One afternoon, Cassian's grandmother sat at the table in the main dining room while I brought her a fresh cup of tea, and she reached out to gently pat my hand with a warm smile on her tired face.
"You work far too hard, Elaris," Grandmother said softly, setting her teacup down carefully on the saucers as she looked up into my eyes.
"Cassian is acting like a complete fool for treating you this way, but I notice everything you do for this family, and I am truly grateful to have you living under our roof."
"Thank you, Grandmother," I replied, taking a seat across from her and offering a small smile, "I just want to make sure everyone in this house is comfortable, so taking care of the estate is really no trouble at all."
"My grandson inherited his mother's stubborn nature," she continued, shaking her head with a long sigh of frustration, "he still holds a ridiculous grudge over how you arrived in this family, but he will come around eventually because no one in their right mind can ignore your kindness forever."
Cassian's father walked into the room a few moments later, holding a stack of budget papers in his right hand, and he set them down directly in front of me on the dining table.
"Elaris, could you please check over these household expenses for the upcoming charity event next week?" he asked, pulling out a heavy chair and sitting down right beside his mother.
"You handled the catering accounts so well last month, and to be honest, I trust your financial judgment far more than the expensive event planners we hired last year."
"I will look through every single line right now, Father," I said, taking the papers from him and pulling a pen out of my apron pocket, "and I will make sure the final budget stays strictly within the limits you set for the event."
"That is exactly why I enjoy having you around this house," his father said, smiling warmly at me as he leaned back in his chair. "You are quiet, sensible, and you keep this entire family organized, so please do not pay any attention to Cassian's bad mood today."
Before I could say anything back to him, Cassian's younger brother, Julian, ran into the dining room alongside his younger sister, Maya, and both of them pulled their chairs right up next to mine.
"Elaris, did you manage to finish checking my history paper like you promised yesterday evening?" Julian asked, leaning over my shoulder with an eager look on his face. "My teacher told us we need to turn it in before three o'clock today, so I really need your help fixing the final page."
"I already reviewed the whole paper early this morning, Julian," I said, pulling a neatly folded sheet of paper from my bag and handing it over to him. "I fixed all the small grammar errors, and I marked two paragraphs near the end that needed a little bit more detail."
"You are honestly the best sister-in-law in the world," Julian cheered, taking the paper with a big smile on his face, while Maya reached over to grab my hand with an excited look in her eyes.
"Elaris, you promised to help me pick out an outfit for my best friend's birthday party tonight," Maya reminded me, pulling on my arm playfully, "so you have to come upstairs to my room with me right after you finish talking with Dad."
"I will be upstairs in ten minutes, Maya," I promised, laughing softly as she let go of my arm and sat back in her seat.
Everyone in the Virelli family had gradually accepted me over the last two years, treating me like a real part of their home, but the one person who still refused to look me in the eyes was my own husband.
That afternoon, I was sitting in the main living room with Grandmother, Julian, and Maya, talking about our travel plans for the upcoming weekend, when the front doors of the estate suddenly slammed open with a loud bang that made everyone jump out of their seats.
The house butler hurried into the room with short, frantic steps, looking entirely out of breath, while his hands trembled violently at his sides as he stopped right in front of where we were sitting.
"What is the meaning of all this commotion?" Cassian's father demanded, stepping into the room from his office and looking at the servant with a strict frown on his face. "Why are you running around and making so much noise in the middle of the day?"
"I apologize deeply for the intrusion, sir," the butler gasped out, trying to catch his breath while pointing a trembling finger back toward the main entrance of the mansion, "but someone just called to tell us Liora just arrived."
Elaris’ POVWhen the loud knocking sounded at my bedroom door, I pulled my simple robe tighter around my trembling shoulders, tried to hide the red marks on my neck, and slowly turned the lock to open it. Cassian stood out in the long hallway holding a clear file folder in his right hand, and he looked down at me with cold, distant eyes that made my heart drop before he even spoke a single word."Here are the divorce papers," Cassian said, thrusting the thick folder directly into my hands while keeping a clear distance between us, "I slept with Liora last night, I am going to take full responsibility for what happened between us, and I will not let her suffer for another day because of our marriage."I stared at his face in complete shock, but I forced my expression to stay completely blank, took the papers without saying a word back to him, and held them tightly against my chest."Do you really not have anything to say to me right now?" Cassian asked, frowning at my complete lack
Cassian’s POVThe Virelli family gathered around the long dining table to host a welcome-home dinner for Liora, and as the evening went on, I noticed how Elaris remained unusually quiet in her seat near the end of the table while Liora sat beside me looking fragile, timid, and innocent."Liora, try a bit more of this roast," my mother said gently, passing a plate across the table while smiling down at her with a soft expression on her face. "You look so thin after being away from home for two years, so you need to eat as much as you can tonight.""Thank you, Mrs. Virelli," Liora replied in a sweet, quiet voice, looking around the table at everyone before giving me a shy smile. "Everyone in this house is being so kind to me, and I missed all of you so much while I was away.""We are just glad you are back home safe," my father chimed in, taking a sip from his glass while looking toward the end of the table. "Elaris, why are you barely touching your food tonight? You have not said a
Cassian’s POVWhen my assistant called my cell phone to inform me that Liora had just landed at the city airport, I dropped my pen on the table, grabbed my suit jacket from the chair, and drove straight to the terminal without taking any of my security guards along with me. For two long years, the heavy guilt of letting my savior disappear on our wedding day weighed on my chest every single morning, so the moment I stepped inside the terminal and saw her standing near the exit doors, I moved through the crowd quickly and called out her name."Liora!" I shouted, picking up my pace until she turned around, saw me standing there, and threw her arms around my neck while crying uncontrollably against my shoulder."Cassian, it is really you," Liora sobbed, holding onto my suit jacket tightly as if she was terrified I would vanish into thin air if she dared to let go of me for a single second, "I was so scared to come back home, but I missed you so much every single day.""Where have y

Elaris’ POVHis cold words echoed in my ears as the wedding guests cheered around us, and even though I wanted to pull off the veil and run away from the church, I knew that my adoptive parents were watching every single move I made. Everyone in that room thought I was a terrible person who spent months tormenting my sister, but the truth was that Liora ran away completely on her own because she refused to be trapped in an arranged marriage with a man she didn't know.Just two hours before the ceremony began, my mother dragged me into the small fitting room at the back of the mansion, threw Liora's wedding gown onto my lap, and ordered me to put it on without asking any questions."Please don't do this, Mother," I begged, holding the dress in my hands while tears filled my eyes, "Liora left because she didn't want to marry Cassian, so you should just tell him the truth instead of forcing me to pretend to be her."My mother stepped forward and slapped me hard across the face, send
Cassian’s POVThe Sterling Mansion was packed with guests, but the noise felt like a blur as I stood near the entrance with my father, waiting for the bride to appear. Two years ago, someone pulled me out of a burning car in the middle of a rainstorm, and even though my vision was blurred and I couldn't see her face, her voice remained clear in my memory. When the Sterling family presented Liora as the girl who saved me, I gave my word to marry her to repay the debt, so I was standing here today ready to keep that promise.Suddenly, Mr. Sterling hurried down the staircase with a pale face, and he grabbed my arm before pulling me into a private study while my father followed behind us."Where is Liora?" I asked, looking around the empty study as the door clicked shut behind us. "The ceremony is supposed to start in ten minutes, so why are you looking like this?""She's gone, Cassian," Mr. Sterling gasped out, clutching his chest while Mrs. Sterling began to cry softly into a handk
