Hired

"Look at him! Isn't he hot?" Hearing those words made my ears ring. The ladies here at school are trying the best that they can to catch someone's attention. And that someone isn't the kind of person I am interested with nor will I even get the interest of knowing him more even if I meet him. I came here to school to focus, to study, and to graduate, not to flirt.

"Dorothy!" A baritone voice called my name so I turned to face him. A tall, dark and handsome guy walked towards me with his hands inside the pocket of his pants. His resting face shows off how bored he looks, and he's wearing a hoodie jacket even though it's still summer. He wore his hood to cover his head and his skin weren't shown much. Armand Hilario, the mysterious guy in our classroom has again showed himself back after being absent for a week.

"What is it?" I asked. It's so rare for an introvert like him to talk to someone like me. He never talk to anyone unless it's something very important.

"Will there be quizzes today?" He asked when he finally stopped and stood in front of me.

"No, as far as I can remember. But we still need to prepare for a surprise quiz, you know." I slightly smiled to show a little interest in talking to him. I don't want him to feel that no one wants to talk to him. I'm a little afraid of talking to introverts because some say they are sensitive. I don't want to hurt his feelings.

"I see. Thank you." He coldly said and passed by my side. My eyes followed him as he was walking away from me. Don't tell me he'll be absent again?

Entering the college life isn't easy for me. There are a lot of things that I need to learn, and there are things that I must take care first before minding the others. Priorities comes first. Studies come first.

I worked part-time in a restaurant for me to be able to help my mother, who does laundry as her job. I never get to meet my father, for my mother told me that he already died because of a sickness. The only goal in my life is to be able to help my mother, so she won't have to work anymore. I wanted her to cool-off and chill. I don't want to see her suffer anymore.

"He's really hot, isn't he?" I groaned when I heard those words again. Ladies inside the library are talking about that one guy. I don't even know who it is but it's really making me puke. They've been murmuring and gossiping about it since I got here and I got enough of their nonsense.

I decided to walk out of the library and looked for a good place to stay for the vacant time. I was reading my notes while I was walking so I really wasn't able to focus on my way.

"Hey, watch out!" I felt a warm touch on my forehead. A loving and sincere touch, enough for me to feel safe and protected. Slowly, I shifted my gaze on the guy who stretched his arm, preventing my poor forehead from getting hit on a tree branch. He formed a smile, and his eyes were sparkling, showing how relieved he was after he was able to save me. I heard the ladies giggled and squeeled, and they started to gather around us. Which makes me think that this guy, this handsome creature with a perfect face, was the one they've been talking about since then.

"Are you okay?" He worriedly asked but I was too stunned to speak. He chuckled after seconds before he tapped my head. "Next time, be careful."

And he walked away with the ladies tailing him. I wasn't able to get his name and I wasn't able to thank him. I felt my cheeks flushed the moment I think about him. I will definitely remember him. If I see him again, I will have the courage to thank him and ask for his name.

When I got home, I heard continuous cough so I rushed inside and saw my mom sitting on the floor.

"Mom, are you okay?" I worriedly asked. She didn't answer, and continued to cough. I wanted to take her to the hospital but she doesn't want to. I know she's only worried about the expenses but I can't leave her like this. There might be some complications needed to be treated right away or it'll get worse.

"Mom, we need to take you to the hospital. You might be having an illness that only the doctors can see. I have to take you there as early as we can to avoid it from worsening."

She shook her head. I heaved a sigh as I massage my forehead. What am I supposed to do? I can't just let her! I don't know what may happen to her if I wouldn't be here, especially if I go to school and she'll be left here alone. No one will be helping us. We only have each other.

"Mom? Mom!" I suddenly got panicked when she passed out. I brought her to the nearest hospital fast by a taxi. I can't stop walking around in circles as I waited for the doctor to come out. I felt my body trembling. I can't help myself but bite my nail. I don't know how many hours have passed when finally the doctor came out and told me that some tests are needed to be carried out because after doing a physical exam, the doctor suspected that mom might have pneumonia. After hearing those words, all I could think is how and where I am supposed to get money for the tests. The money I earned on my part-time job will not be enough for the expenses here and also at school.

A thought flashed in my mind. I have no other choice but to stop going to school and find a better job where I can earn a greater amount of money for my mom's treatment. I formed my hands into fists. I'm sorry, mom. But I need to do this. For you.

I can find more opportunity in the city so I decided to look for a suitable job there. I walked around the city, looking for hiring. It's been hours and I haven't had my lunch yet but still I haven't found any available job. I squinted my eyes on the huge screen in a building when a certain 45-year old man was shown on news. The reporter asked him about what is making him successful. The man was known as Danmar Bertrand, who is a famous billionaire. Everybody knew him. He's known because of his success and hardwork. I looked up to him since I was still a kid, and get inspired by his story. I made him my role model to become successful in life soon. And someday, I will meet him. I smiled at the thought. Yeah, dream big, Dorothy.

I continued walking around the city when I stopped and stood infront of someone's gate. There are lots of ladies and they're in chaos. Here I am, behind them, curious why.

"I am the one suitable to be the maid here!"

"No! I should be!"

"Oh, come on, we all know I am!"

My jaw dropped. They're all fighting for the job as a maid? I noticed that the ladies here don't seem to be in need of money. Some of them here were even my rich schoolmates! What in the world are they even doing here, applying as a maid in a...

I scanned my eyes all over the place and I gasped at the sight! What an enchanting castle! Isn't this the place where the famous billionaire lived?

I stepped back. Oh no, Dorothy. What are you thinking? Are you planning on applying as a maid here? But there's nothing I can do. I need money for my mom.

"Goodness, it's getting out of hand." I heard a man spoke behind me so I turned to face him. My eyes widened when I saw him! The famous billionaire! Danmar Bertrand! Am I really seeing him now? He isn't inside a tv screen, a billboard, a painting and anything else? Is he really in front of me?

He has two men in black beside him, and another two behind him. Seemed like they are his bodyguards. He was looking at the chaos and even shook his head. He seemed to notice me so he shifted his gaze on me. I was too stunned to speak, all I can do right now is to stare at him. Knowing his age, he still has the charm. He doesn't even look that old. He's still young, and he's even more handsome in personal.

My forehead creased when the famous billionaire showed a slight surprise on his face when he saw me.

"You... Are you also applying as a maid?" He asked. I gulped and stood straight. What should I answer? This is my chance, right?

"Uhm, I... uh.." I stuttered. Goodness, Dorothy! Don't lose this opportunity just because you can't speak clearly in front of the person you admire!

"You're hired." He seriously stated, which made my jaw dropped. A-am I hired? For real?

Please, tell me this isn't a dream!
