At the mansion, Alina had barely slept. The tears had eventually stopped sometime around three AM, leaving her hollow and exhausted, staring at the ceiling until pale light began filtering through the curtains.

She heard footsteps in the corridor around seven. Expected Mrs. Helen's familiar knock.

Instead, a timid tap. Too light. Too hesitant.

"Come in," Alina said, her voice rough from crying.

The door opened to reveal one of the younger maids. Sarah, maybe. Or Julia. Alina had never been good

Hurried footsteps could be heard. Mrs. Helen appeared first with a pale face."Sir? What's wrong—" Her eyes went wide at the sight of Alina and her bleeding hands."Why didn't you check on her?!" Daniel snapped. "Why did you let her get hurt like this?!"Mrs. Helen trembled. "I-I... when I brought the flowers earlier, Ma'am was fine at that point—""Why didn't you check on her again after that?!" Daniel's fury peaked. "That is your job! To watch over and look after her! Not to leave her alone until she's hurt herself!""Forgive me, Sir—""GET OUT! Bring the first aid kit! NOW!"Mrs. Helen ran out with tears on her cheeks.Daniel knelt in front of Alina again. He took her hands more gently this time.He began carefully pulling out the thorns still embedded in her skin one by one.Alina did not react. Did not flinch. Did not even pull her hand away. She only sat frozen in silence.Like a doll."Why did you do this?" Daniel whispered in a trembling voice. "Why did you hurt yourself?"Mrs

  • The Billionaire's Insignificant Wife    The Public Deception

Clarissa stood in front of her bedroom mirror with a thin smile on her lips. She wore an ivory satin nightgown — thin, tracing the lines of her figure, but modest enough not to appear vulgar in front of a small child. Her hair was left loose with soft waves. Makeup minimal but flattering. A light perfume — nothing too sharp.Everything calculated.Clarissa glanced at the wall clock. Eight in the evening. If he wasn't dining out, Daniel usually came home around this time. She stepped out of her room and walked down the corridor to Junior's room at the far end.Junior was sitting on his bed with a storybook in hand. His eyes were already heavy with sleep but he was still trying to read."Sweetheart," Clarissa called in a gentle voice. "It's time to sleep."Junior looked up. "But I haven't finished the story yet, Mama."Clarissa sat on the edge of the bed. She stroked Junior's head with affection."How about we wait for Papa to come home? We can ask Papa to read it to the end?"Junior im

At lunchtime, Daniel sat in the private dining room of a luxury restaurant in the city center with a glass of wine in hand.Dr. Lawrence Mitchell sat across from him with a pale face and trembling hands."Thank you for coming so quickly, Dr. Mitchell," said Daniel with a smile that did not reach his eyes.Dr. Mitchell swallowed. "Mr. Blackwood, if this is about Mrs. Margaret—""Oh, this is indeed about my mother," Daniel cut in as he sipped his wine. "And about the very... bold plan the two of you have been making."Dr. Mitchell felt the blood drain from his face."I don't know what you—"Daniel set his wine glass down with a sharp sound that made Dr. Mitchell flinch."Don't play games with me, Doctor. I know everything. I know my mother contacted you. I know she asked you to evaluate Alina again, discreetly. I also know her plan to have my wife admitted to a psychiatric facility."Daniel leaned back in his chair with sharp eyes fixed on Dr. Mitchell."What I want to know is: why did

  • The Billionaire's Insignificant Wife    Emma's Fall

"What?" Martin's voice sounded disbelieving. "Daniel, what do you mean? Emma is an excellent employee. She has delivered many successful projects for our firm. I can't simply dismiss her without strong grounds.""The grounds are that she has been interfering in my personal affairs," Daniel answered in a hard tone. "She's been spreading false rumors about my family. Trying to damage our reputation by looking for a lawyer for a case that doesn't exist.""Daniel, I don't understand—""You don't need to understand, Martin," Daniel cut in. "You only need to do what I'm asking. Fire Emma Carter. Now."Martin drew a deep breath. "Daniel, I can't do that. Emma has rights as an employee. There are procedures to follow. I can't dismiss someone arbitrarily without a proper investigation—""Martin," Daniel said in a dangerous tone. "Do you remember who helped your firm land a major contract with Waverly Corporation last year? Who recommended your firm to three large clients that now make up you

  • The Billionaire's Insignificant Wife    Obsession's Grip

Night arrived with a suffocating darkness. Alina sat on the edge of the bed with vacant eyes staring at the window barred with iron grates. She knew Daniel would come. The man had made his promise that afternoon. Daniel's words still echoed in her head like a curse. The door opened with a soft click. Daniel entered with unhurried steps. He closed and locked the door from the inside. Alina did not turn. Did not react. She only continued sitting with her back straight and her hands folded in her lap. Like a statue. Daniel walked closer. He stood in front of Alina and looked at her with an expression that was difficult to read. "Alina," he called softly. No response. Daniel knelt in front of her. He lifted her chin gently so that she faced him. Alina's eyes were vacant. Looking through Daniel as though the man did not exist. "You didn't rest?" Daniel asked as he stroked Alina's cheek. No answer. Daniel drew a deep breath. Trying to suppress the frustration that was beginning

  • The Billionaire's Insignificant Wife    Glimmer in the Darkness

At the Hayes family residence, Richard sat lost in thought in his private study. His phone was still clutched in a trembling hand. The call with Alina had ended only minutes ago. But his daughter's words still echoed in his head. Especially the last sentence. "Everything is fine." Richard closed his eyes. He drew a long, shaking breath. He knew that tone. He had heard it thousands of times since Alina was small. The forced quality. The voice made artificially cheerful. Words that tried to reassure but only deepened the worry. Since Alina was five years old, every time she said "everything is fine" in that particular tone, it meant things were actually not fine at all. When she fell off her bicycle and her knee was bleeding but she didn't want to make Richard worry. When she was bullied at school but didn't want to report it because she didn't want to cause trouble. When the grandmother who adored her passed away and she tried to appear strong in front of Richa
