Chapter 5: Third Wheel

Kim's POV

The night had passed at last. I felt anxious that I was not able to sleep well, thinking of what Catherine had told me, especially when she informed me that her older brother agreed to meet me. I was convinced as she said that it's easy for her brother to find my dad.

I realized that maybe it's time to have someone who would help me to find him. For I spent two weeks already looking for him in this city, but I always come home disheartened. I got worried that the longer it took me to find him, it's too late already.

At exactly twelve noon, Cath arrived. She brought food so we could eat lunch together. I was glad to meet her again. She's still jolly as the first time I met her.

While eating, I told her the whole story of what exactly had happened between me and her brother.

"So, what did you feel when Mat kissed you?" Cath asked, smiling mischievously at me. But I felt awkward to answer.

I took a glass of water and drank to hide my face as I could feel that my cheeks were getting warm.

"Come on, Kim. Tell me. I won't tell my brother, promise." She persisted when I didn't respond, raising her right hand as she swore. I found it weird as she seemed so interested. Or perhaps, it's only my imagination.

"Um, I-I don't know. It was so unexpected. I was so shocked and got mad. That's why I slapped him after the kiss. You know, it was my first kiss and he stole it just like that."

"The more that you ask for compensation," She proposed with a mysterious glint in her eyes. However,  I couldn't read what was on her mind. Nevertheless, I didn't bother to ask.

After we finished eating, I stood up to wash the dishes while Cath took her suitcase. I was so busy in the kitchen that I didn't notice what she was doing until she called me.

"Kim, try this dress on." I heard her say.

I turned my head and saw that she was smiling brightly at me while showing me a midnight blue tube bodycon dress. She volunteered to lend me a dress for my meeting with her brother since I only had shirts and jeans with me.

"Wait, I still need to dry the dishes," I responded.

"You can do that later." She insisted as she rushed towards me and excitedly pulled me into the bathroom.

After some time, she was looking at me with a satisfied grin.

"Wow! You look hot, Kim! It fits you perfectly." She exclaimed with admiration. Then, she pouted. "Your body is enviable, huh? I couldn't wear that dress as it doesn't suit me."

The dress looked elegant but a little daring because of its plunging neckline and slim fit type. And yes, it suited my sexy figure. Fortunately, we're of the same size except that my busts were fuller than hers.

My face flushed in embarrassment. "Um, thanks for the compliment, Cath. But I don't feel comfortable. It shows too much of my skin." I mumbled as I gaze at myself in the full-length mirror.

Cath laughed out loud at my remarks before she responded.

"I know right. I just wanted you to try that dress on. I noticed that you're a conservative type as I saw your clothes in the closet so I brought another one. Wait here. I'll get it." Cath revealed with a pleased smile on her lips. Then, she winked at me before she turned and walked out of the bathroom, leaving me astounded.

Not long after, she came back holding a draped satin off-shoulder navy blue knee-length dress.

My forehead creased when I noticed its color. "Is blue your favorite color?"

"No, why?" She answered while handing me the dress.

I simply smiled as I shook my head. Then, I changed my dress. After a while, I pulled back the shower curtain and went back in front of the mirror.

"Oh my! You're fabulous like a model. Any kind of dress suits you well. If you looked hot in the bodycon dress earlier, now, you look, you look innocent."

"Because the dress is nice. I like it. It's soft and comfy." I humbly remarked. I really liked the dress, especially its sweetheart neckline and A-line silhouette, making me comfortable to move.

-------

We're all set at exactly five in the afternoon. Mateo would pick us up in the lobby of the condominium at 5:30 pm.

"Good heaven! You look wonderful, Kim! Your hazel eyes are simply amazing with those lashes." Cath praised my beauty, staring at my face in the mirror.

I smiled gently. "Thank you, Cath. Because you put makeup on me."

"Honestly, even without makeup, you look beautiful." She asserted, turning her eyes on her watch. "Oh, it's past five already. Let's go."

We arrived at the lobby at 5:20 pm and before we could sit, we saw Mateo coming. He was walking handsomely towards us. My heart skipped a beat when I saw how good-looking he was, dressed in a well-fitting navy blue suit. My brow arched a bit, thinking that Cath intently lent me the navy blue dress to match the outfit of her brother.

"Mat, you're ten minutes early, huh?" Cath greeted her brother with a teasing smile on her lips.

"I had business around the area that's why I arrived early." He explained nonchalantly, turning his head to me.

My heart raced when our eyes met. Perhaps, I was anxious to see him after I accused him of being a con artist.

Nonetheless, I forced a smile and greeted him. "G-Good afternoon, Mr. Anderson."

"Hey, why so formal? You can also call him Mat or Mateo." Cath suggested, chuckling at me.

"Let's go." Mateo urged us to leave.

"Take care of her, Mat. Have a good talk." Cath stated, making me caught off guard.

"H-Huh? A-Aren't you coming with us?" I asked, astounded.

"Of course not! I don't want to be a third wheel, you know." Cath explained as she winked at me. Then, she immediately turned and left. I wanted to follow her and pull her back. However, I saw Mateo twitching his brows.
