“I CALLED Lexa earlier to check on her and Lexus,” Heart informed her mother while they were walking down the hallway. She was about to leave, as Lumeng was going to accompany her to the bus stop. She tried to keep herself strong and not show any weakness to her father. She wanted things to go smoothly with his operation.

She was pleased because, initially, when they were at the Legazpi hospital, her father was supposed to have surgery the next day, but it had changed due to their lack of funds. Conrad had made it to Manila.

“What did Lexa say, dear? Are they okay? I left some money there for them. I told them to manage with it for now. How are they doing?” her mother asked while they walked, their arms wrapped around each other.

“Lexus didn’t go to school, Mom. He said he’s quitting.”

“Oh my God! Is he out of his mind?” her mother asked angrily, coming to a stop.

“I’m frustrated too because he’s taking the lead in decision-making.”
