BETRAYED BY HEAVEN

I opened my eyes, and here I go again. I could see the same view of the place I always visit. I could hear the sound of the machine beside me, helping me to know that I still have heartbeats. I looked around a bit and saw that Mama Lynette was sitting next to me. Her head was leaning beside my bed. She was sleeping.

I tried to remember the reason for my being hospitalized again. Then, everything suddenly flashed back into my mind.

“I saved the boy…” I said to myself.

Because of that, Mama Lynette opened her eyes and looked at me. I woke her up. She immediately held my hand. “You’re awake!” She exclaimed with all happiness.

I smiled and looked at her. Then, she immediately went out to call the doctor. After a few seconds, the doctor came in with a nurse beside him. They were carrying a folder in their hands. Then they entered and smiled at me. The doctor immediately used his stethoscope to check my condition, then he noted something in his folder.

“You’re getting better now, Miss Lorenzo,” He said while looking at me.

I smiled and replied, “Thanks…”

“But, there’s something we want you to know,” He added and instantly he looked at Mama Lynette. They both nodded. I looked at them in confusion about the signs they were giving to each other.

“What is it?” I asked.

“After being hit by a vehicle, you lost too much blood. You experienced too much stress and blood clots in your abdominal area. Your life was in danger,” He added.

I slowly touched my tummy when I realized that it was already flat. I looked at them and tears started to flow from my eyes. With a stuttering voice, I asked… “W-Where’s the baby? H-How about my baby boy?”

The doctor sighed. Mama Lynette covered her eyes and cried. “I’m so sorry, Miss Lorenzo. But the child didn’t make it.”

“No… That’s not true!” I exclaimed in tears after hearing the news. I tried to remove all apparatuses inserted in me and tried my best to get out of the room. I don’t believe that my baby died that instant. They are just lying! I successfully delivered the baby and he’s in the incubating room. Yeah! That’s what it is!

The doctor and nurses tried their best to stop me from leaving the room. Then, I suddenly felt something injected into me which made me fall asleep.

“Mama?”

I heard an angelic voice as if it was calling me out. I know it was not how I was called but I could feel that he was calling out to me.

“Mama!”

I tried to look where the voice was coming from. Then, in the distance, I saw a boy running to approach me. He hugged me tight and there was an unending joy in my heart. We were still hugging each other when suddenly, the gates were opened. Then he slowly removed his hands from me. He started waving.

Why are you doing that gesture?” I asked.

He remained silent while waving. Then, he started walking away from me. I tried to reach his hand but there was something that holds my whole body to move. I watched the boy enter the gate and as soon as he was finally in, the gates were closed and disappeared.

I opened my eyes again.

“Vanessa? Are you awake?” Mama Lynette asked while looking at me.

I sat in bed and remained silent for a while. She looked at me worriedly. “If you want anything just tell me,” She said.

I looked at her out of deep thought. “Can you bring my boy back?”

Mama Lynette looked at me and started shaking her head. “You know that I can’t do that, Vanessa.”

I know that tears are flowing from my eyes but I didn’t pay attention to it. “He was a handsome boy, Ma. I saw him in a dream,” I replied.

She came closer to me and showed interest in what I was about to tell.

“You saw him? Then, what happened?” She asked and sniffed.

“We were hugging each other. But, the gates went open. And he entered the way there. He finally left me alone,” I replied.

“No, dear. You are not alone. I’m here!” She said while pointing her hand towards herself.

“Tell me, Ma. Is this the payment for being a mistress? To suffer this kind of pain?” I asked.

Without a word, she hugged me and started sobbing. I just closed my eyes and sighed. I asked myself to move on and forget all the memories I had from the past. But, I didn’t expect that even the only reason that makes me strong was snatched away from me.

Mama Lynette looked at me and touched my face. “We can win this, Vanessa. I’m with you. No matter what happens, I will stay with you. So, please, don’t give up!” She said while looking at me.

I just nodded. I don’t have enough strength to say any more words. I just want to be in silence. The one who did this to me was there happy and will soon have a family of his own. He forgot that he still has a responsibility to his first child. And now, because of neglecting me, he still has a happy life while me, living broken-hearted.

“How did you even know where I was?” I asked.

“Oh, before I forgot. There was a man who brought you here, his name was Mr. Hudson. He was a good man! He already paid for the hospital bills including the surgery. He told the hospital to trace your identity and they contacted me,” She explained.

I raised an eyebrow while listening to her. “He’s such a good man, indeed. But, you haven’t met him? I should say thank you,” I replied.

“I haven’t. The nurses told me that he already left after paying the bills,” She answered.

After all this tragedy, there were people that will still choose to be good than abandon responsibility. And, Mr. Hudson is one of them. I didn’t even get the chance to appreciate his help.
