CHAPTER 5
As soon as Yza entered he hallway, she felt like her heart was about to explode when she saw the door to Adamson's room. In the end, she chose to obey orders and follow rather than lie. She nervously bit her finger as she took small steps closer to the young man's room. She took a deep breath when she stood in front of the door before attempting to knock on it. Was it her fault earlier for thinking he had left the country? Apparently, he didn't leave and was doing something foolish inside his room with a woman. And then, they forgot to close the door, so she assumed there was no one inside. Was there still someone inside? "Damn you! This isn't enough! I want more of you, Adam!" She heard the woman's voice screaming, causing Yza to flinch. There was the woman. She didn't immediately hear a response from the person she was talking to. After a while, her employer spoke. "But I don't want more of you. Get out. I don't want to see your face anymore. I paid you more than enough for a lousy performance, so don't try to act as if you own me because I don't even know your name. You bitches are just my bed warmers, easily being bedded and get paid. Out now, woman." That's what she heard from the young master. There was no emotion in his voice. It was a low, purposeful tone. Having sex with a stranger? Good Lord. "Fuck you! Fuck you!" the woman screamed, and she heard the click of the woman’s heels. The woman was hissing like a snake. Yza quickly ran away because she might get slapped. She didn't want that. She even had a cut on the corner of her lip, and she didn't want to be tricked again. "Damn!" The woman struck herself against the wall out of frustration. Why was the woman angry now when a while ago she was all over the bed? It seemed like she still wanted more from Señorito Adam but he didn't want the lady anymore, which is probably why the woman was erupting like a volcano. There was no doubt that the woman really wanted Adam because he's so handsome and wealthy. She thought that there was no word in the vocabulary to chase after women or get serious about them for this guy. His mind seemed to be focused on something else, not settling down, in Yza’s psychological analysis. When she regained her composure, she approached Adamson's room again. She knocked twice. "What?!" the young man shouted, and then he opened the door, and she wanted to run away even more when she saw the anger in his green eyes. She was shocked, and her soul probably flew to purgatory at this very moment. She had sinned because of her eyes; she wouldn't go to heaven but to purgatory. She saw something indecent and a handsome snake, and a woman's butt hole down to her rectum, including her hemorrhoids. Holy God. Yza blinked and lowered her head. "Yza," Adam's appearance suddenly softened, and his voice became calm, "I thought you were that woman. Come." "I-I'm sorry to disturb you. I-I was just..." She stuttered, genuinely scared. Adam turned his back and pushed the door open, "I-Is it okay if I stay here, Señorito?" She thought she would be bitten by the snake. Look up, Yza, instead of the snake. She told herself. "Don't be afraid. I thought you were that woman. Come in." He invited her, so she moved, even though she was hesitant. Maybe he would realize that she's just a child to hurt for her foolishness. There was some mercy in her boss, she believed. On the table, she saw her smashed phone and felt embarrassed to pick it up to fix it. Maybe later. "Here's your Lola's salary. And I want you to fix my things in my luggage. I'll be leaving early morning. Won't you get tired doing it? You're still bruised and wounded," he said, glancing at her arms with scratches from the woman earlier. "I-I'm not tired, Señorito," she replied, holding her hands in front of her, shivering from the air conditioning while he was still sweating. Is she going to refuse the order? It’s embarrassing. He is giving her grandma’s salary, and she’s acting like this? Maybe she’s just assuming she’ll be mistreated. “Okay,” he nodded and placed the money back on the table, then walked into the walk-in closet. “Come here, Yza,” Adam called from inside. Yza obeyed, peering cautiously through the partially open door, thinking she might see something scandalous again. She saw him putting on a white T-shirt, and for some reason, he looked exceptionally handsome in her eyes. He had a very masculine presence that could intimidate anyone. He shows great resemblance of a great warrior who can defy demonic villains. His stance tells everything. His straight back is really something. She gulped as he turned to her while pulling down the hem of the shirt he was wearing. “Get in,” he said when he noticed her peering through the door. She smiled slightly, and it seemed like Adam’s eyes smiled too, but she wasn’t sure. Did he? She couldn’t help but hide her lips because he looked like he was going to kiss her. That would be a disaster. And she’s imagining things too much. Yza ignored Adam’s gaze and tried to compose herself. It looked like he knew what he needed, so why have a servant if he couldn’t do simple tasks? Oh, she’s paid and she doesn’t care about his laziness. He’s rich. When he turned away, she examined the cabinet filled with Adam’s business suits. Her mouth twisted as she considered what he should wear. He was the boss, but what if he yelled at her for not liking her taste? She struggled to reach a light pink long-sleeved shirt but couldn’t. Adam handed it to her without a word, licking his lips with a strangely enticing smile. “I couldn’t reach it. Everything here is American-sized,” she explained. He nodded slightly, “You can step onto something so you can reach it,” he suggested. He even pulled a wooden stool ladder over for her. He sat back down, seemingly keeping an eye on her. She didn’t pay much attention, picking out clothes one by one. She chose three long-sleeved shirts and glanced at him. His mysterious gaze made her gulp, and the corner of his lips rose slightly. She pulled her gaze away, but it was hard to do that. There seemed to be a magnetic force in his eyes that could hypnotize people, especially women. Even an innocent girl like her felt a sense of admiration for him, even as he was up to mischief. “Who is Dan James, Yza? And why does he call you Alexa?” Adam’s voice filled the room. “P-Pardon, sir?” she stammered. She didn’t look at him but continued what she was doing until she heard him get up and walk towards her. Startled, she turned to find him behind her, holding onto the closet door. His face betrayed that he was waiting for her response, so she answered, “D-DJ is my friend.” “The truth. Who is he?” he emphasized, and she fell silent. She bit her lower lip, feeling his gaze on her even if she couldn’t see it. “Um, he’s my childhood friend and a suitor.” “Do you like him?” he inquired. She nodded. “Yes. He’ll be my boyfriend when I graduate.” When she glanced at him, he remained silent, lips pursed, eyebrows furrowed as if deep in thought. Then, he left her in the closet, closing the door almost forcefully. She breathed a sigh of relief. She felt like she might run out of breath because of his intense gaze and curiosity.Yza was frozen in her seat when she heard a familiar sweet voice fill the entire function hall after the wedding."I thought I wasn’t ready, For my heart to beat again But suddenly, you came into my life…"She stared at her husband as he walked out from behind the improvised stage. He had said he was going to the bathroom, but here he was, about to sing. His eyes immediately sought her face and then showed a very light but heartwarming smile. She automatically felt very emotional. Who wouldn’t be moved if someone as handsome as him serenaded her in front of everyone on their wedding day at the church? And in fairness, his voice was beautiful. He had a hidden talent for singing, but just like his personality, it was very hidden and hard to reach. And with this Tagalog song, the first words that came out of his mouth seemed to fill her heart with love—love for her and for the two-month-old babies in her womb. Everything was given to her by God. If the challenges they went through were t
Yza furrowed her brow as the taxi driver dropped her off right in front of the condominium where she was staying, after she got out.The condominium across from AD condominium? She only learned the name of that building now, despite having lived across from it for such a long time. She walked inside and the guard greeted her with a smile. “Are you going home here, Ma’am? Not to the other side?” The guard joked, to which she just smiled. What a gossip. When did Adam start living there? Was that the new place her grandmother mentioned where her husband was staying? So, they were right across from each other? She couldn’t help but feel a little giddy at the thought that maybe Adam had been secretly watching her, out of her sight and knowledge.“I’m heading to my husband’s place,” she told the guard and showed her name tag, which he quickly looked at.“Ah, to Sir Adam. Go ahead, Ma’am. He told me that if any beautiful woman comes by, I should let her in right away.” The guard said, but it
53Yza was momentarily stunned by the woman in front of her. Her brain couldn't process the simple instruction the woman had just given her, telling her that Adam wanted her to go to the main building of the company again. What could he possibly need from her this time? She had just come from there. She had also just been here. It seemed like her husband's mind was slowly unraveling."Ma'am Yza?" The woman in front of her called out since Yza had been staring blankly for a while."H-Huh? O-Okay, I'll go," Yza replied, still not fully aware of what she was saying. She glanced at Tiffany as she sang while looking at her computer."Bring back the sweetness of love, let the heart that loves be heard again..." Tiffany sang, her shoulders shaking with the rhythm."Awwooohhh..." her friends joined in, causing Yza to laugh softly before standing up."Do I have to go, Tiffany?" Yza bit her finger nervously. She suddenly felt uneasy, thinking of facing Adam again. It reminded her of when she fi
52Yza went straight to branch five after talking to Adam, but several hours had passed, and her anger still hadn't subsided. She felt like she was going to explode from the mix of anger, jealousy, hurt, and love. She didn’t know why she felt this way, but it was as if her feet were pulling her back to the main building so she could slap him without stopping. She felt that her attempt to throw the vase there wasn’t enough.Frustrated, she bent over the desk and started crying again, so she grabbed her hair in frustration.“Are you okay, bf?” Tiffany asked her from the table across. She was surprised, but Yza shook her head repeatedly.“I’m not okay. It was so wrong for me to go to his office. I was so... disgusted. I’m angry because he didn’t say anything. He’s still closed off to me.” She started crying again and buried her head in the desk, crying quietly.“He doesn’t love me anymore. He thought that money could ease the pain I feel. He doesn’t love me anymore, Tiffany. He loves som
51The taxi window automatically rolled down as it reached the guardhouse entering the ADL Motors building—main branch."guard..." Yza said to the two guards, who immediately stood upright when they saw her face."Ma'am Elyzabeth Alexa," they said in unison, making her furrow her brows. Why did they recognize her?"Go ahead, Ma'am," the man said, so she nodded, though still confused. The driver continued driving into the driveway while smiling. When she got out at the main entrance of the building, she immediately saw a billboard with Adam’s face on it. He had that fierce look. So arrogant, yet so cowardly and childlike in his actions and decisions.Deceptive! Her head heated with anger. As she entered the building, she froze in shock upon seeing her own face on the large tarpaulins around the area. Why was her picture up there? Elyzabeth Alexa Brina-de Lorenzo, CEO of ADL Motors. What kind of nonsense is this? Her eyebrows furrowed, and it seemed like smoke was coming out of her nose
Yza was getting some fresh air on the apartment balcony. It had been months since she last did this, ever since she and Adam got married. Now that she was back in the apartment, she would often step out for some fresh air in the evenings to relax and clear her mind from overthinking.Lately, she's been very emotional and doesn't even know why. Maybe it's because she misses her husband, who seems to have completely forgotten about her.She was starting to fall into deep thought again. She was supposed to be relaxing, but stress filled her mind instead. She missed Adamson so much, and there were times when she wanted to call or text him, but she wasn’t sure if his number was still active. On top of that, she felt embarrassed. She didn’t want to seem desperate, especially since he distanced himself from her.She wasn’t proud, but she was discreet when it came to handling situations like that. She glanced at her phone again. She was looking at the only picture of Adam she had, and once ag
