When we were a few blocks away from the office, I shifted slightly in my seat and glanced at Sebastian.

“Hey,” I said softly. “Could you drop me off here instead? Just… not right in front of the building.”

His brows lifted slightly. “Why?”

I hesitated. “You know why.”

Realization flickered in his eyes, followed quickly by something unreadable. He pulled over without another word, easing the car to a quiet stop near a café across the street from the building.

“Right,” he muttered, like he was reminding himself. “We’re not… supposed to be seen together.”

I hated how that sounded.

I reached for the door handle, pausing when he spoke again.

“I’ll see you inside.”

I met his eyes, gave a small nod. “I will.”

I stepped out, shut the door gently behind me, and didn’t look back as I started walking toward the building. Every step felt deliberate. Like I was walking away from something I wasn’t even allowed to hold.

Celeste The next morning, my phone buzzed just as I was finishing my coffee. A message from Sebastian: I’m on the way. We’ll drop Amara off at school first, then head to the office. I stared at the screen for a moment, my heart skipping a beat. He was going to pick us up. Me. And Amara. It felt strange. New. Like something I wasn’t quite used to yet. I typed back quickly, trying to keep my heart steady. Okay. See you soon. Amara was already dressed, humming as she packed her little backpack with the same careful determination she had when she tucked in her picture book last night. She glanced up at me, eyes bright with sleepy excitement. “Will Uncle Seb come with us?” I smiled, brushing a stray curl behind her ear. “Yes, he will.” When the doorbell rang, I took a deep breath before opening it. Sebastian stood there, looking like he belonged—like this was exactly where he should be. In that moment, it didn’t feel complicated or heavy. Just… right. Amara ran to him witho

CelesteBy the time we finished breakfast, the sun was already high, casting long shadows on the sand outside the hotel. It felt too bright, too final — like the day knew something was ending, even if none of us wanted to say it out loud.We didn’t linger.Sebastian offered to drive us back to the city — casually, like it wasn’t a big deal. Like it wasn’t a small miracle that he was still here at all.I said yes before I could second-guess myself. Now we were back in the car, Amara buckled into the back seat, humming softly to herself as she flipped through a worn picture book she refused to leave behind. The one with the bear who learns how to fly. Sebastian had given it to her last night. I hadn’t even seen him pack it.The road curved gently along the coastline as we pulled away from the resort, the ocean slowly disappearing in the rearview mirror. No one spoke for the first few minutes.Sebastian drove with one hand on the wheel, sunglasses on, his other arm resting near the conso

CelesteThe first thing I felt was warmth.A tiny, steady weight curled against my side — one that belonged to a little girl who had a habit of kicking blankets off and stealing them back within the same breath. Her hair tickled my chin, and when I shifted slightly, I caught the soft sound of her breathing. Deep, even. Peaceful.Amara.My eyes fluttered open, adjusting slowly to the golden sliver of sunlight slipping past the curtains. For a moment, I didn’t move. Didn’t think. Just let myself be there — still, suspended in the kind of quiet that only happens early in the morning, before the world fully remembers how to spin. And then I felt it — another presence.I turned my head.Sebastian.Fast asleep, just inches away on the other side of Amara. One arm tucked beneath his pillow, the other resting gently across his stomach, his chest rising and falling in an unhurried rhythm. The stubble on his jaw was a little darker in the morning light, and a lock of his hair had fallen slightl

Celeste By the time we reached the room, the laughter had faded, leaving only the soft hush of waves and the crunch of sand beneath our steps. Tristan smiled. “Goodnight, little girl. Sleep tight.” Nicholas leaned down dramatically and whispered, “Dream of unicorns. Or pirates. Or pirate unicorns.” Amara giggled sleepily, half-hiding behind my skirt. “I’ll bring the car around tomorrow,” Tristan said, glancing at Sebastian. “You’re staying?” Sebastian nodded once. “Yeah. Just for the night.” Something tightened in my chest. Nicholas gave me a long, knowing look—more subtle than usual—and then followed Tristan down the path, their footsteps fading into the dark. And just like that, it was just the three of us again. Inside the guest room, Sebastian sat at the edge of the bed while I helped Amara into her pajamas. She was fighting sleep, her little eyes fluttering open and shut in stubborn protest. “Will you stay?” she mumbled to Sebastian, her hand catching his wri

Celeste“Insufferable,” Nicholas muttered again, his grin stretching wider as if he’d just uncovered the scandal of the century. Before I could reply, Sebastian’s hand brushed lightly against the small of my back, steady and deliberate, guiding me toward the long table. The lanterns flickered against his profile, sharp and calm, as if Nicholas’s antics didn’t touch him at all.“Come,” he said simply, pulling out a chair for me. The movement was so natural, so effortless, yet Nicholas immediately perked up like a wolf catching the scent of blood.“Oh, look at that—chivalry is alive and well. Are you sure you two don’t want to just announce the wedding right now?”I shot Nicholas a glare, my face heating, but Sebastian only raised a brow at him before resting a hand on the back of my chair. His composure was infuriating—like he knew exactly what he was doing to me, and worse, to everyone watching.Tristan muttered something under his breath about Nicholas never shutting up, while Amara
