I wait until it is almost dark before we leave. Since she signed the papers, she had curled up into a ball on one side of the room. Occasionally, her shoulders would shake like she was crying but I didn’t care. Ever since Zion announced his marriage to her, I wondered why and kept a close watch. He wanted the Henderson deal. A deal to help him expand the franchise into the political scene. But the founders needed something to come with the deal. An Old Money name, because it speaks trust. It wasn’t hard to get White Ashton to do some shady business with me, especially after finding out he has lost almost all his family wealth because of his gambling addiction. My plan was in motion, and soon, Zion will lose everything including his precious company. I knew she would be easy to break from the moment I saw her. That need to put her family first and make decisions that are best for them, would be her demise and my victory. “It’s time to go, get up” I tell her. She stands up but doesn’t look at me. I can see a streak of dried tears on her chin and it makes me wonder what Zion saw in her. She was weak, and the Scots doesn’t do weak. The commotion at her house was exactly what I needed. It would make headlines. Zion would be portrayed as weak, a man who couldn’t keep his bride and he will feed on it. “You silly girl, where have you been? Her father scolded, the minute she walked into the garden. Some of the guests were still present, thinking the bride had escaped. They were in for a good show. “Hello, Mr Ashton” I stretched my hand out for a handshake. He looks at me, wide eyed. “Nate, what are you doing here?” “Only to bring my wife home” I smiled. Where was Zion? It wasn’t like him to take the insult of an eloped wife and leave. Ah, there he is. He walks up to us, dolled up in his perfectly tailored suit, one made for a groom. His eyes were filled with hate. His hair a disheveled mess from having run his fingers through it countless times. I’m lucky we look nothing alike. “What did you say?” He seethe “Get your things” I throw at Simone. “Do not move an inch” Zion orders. “I’d be careful how you talk to my wife” I was smiling. This shit was funny. Zion took a step forward, his face fighting to keep his emotions intact. It was obvious he was losing control, just like he always did as a child. “What is this, Nate?” White Ashton asks me. “Simone and I are married. And I have papers to prove that” “Simone is mine” Zion shouts, his hands moving to smack my face. I step away and his hand slashes the air. The guests are whispering, bringing out cameras and typing away on their phones. Good, I didn’t even have to lift a finger. “GO GET YOUR THINGS” this time, I wasn’t nice about it. Simone scurries off, leaving the men to handle this. “Get these people out” Zion orders, realizing his mistake. Only, he is too late. By now, there are rumors spreading out on social media, one he would need to address. By the time the garden is cleared, Zion is on his third glass of wine. I couldn’t blame him, his need for possession and control could be overwhelming. “There is nothing to explain” I say calmly. “Simone and I are married, and will remain so” “Youu” Zion points a finger at me. “You had no right” “Oh but I do. I mean I love to play with your little feelings” “Is this your plan for revenge?” He laughed. “Marry a girl I’m barely interested in? You’re a joke” “Exactly why I married her. You need a reputable name. You need the old money name to get you places. Now, I have her, you will have to fight for it” “Oh please, I could get that anywhere. I was merely helping them clear their debts and keep their family’s fortune” “Well, let’s see you get that then.” I say, turning to walk away. “How do you think the family’s fortune declined?” I asked Colour drained from White Ashton’s face as he remembers all the bad deals he made because of certain pushes. Pushes that came from me. “I’ve been watching you Zion. I’ve been watching you watch her, and I’ve been watching you plan. You need her and you know it. “ “I will kill you” Zion seethes. His face was red from anger and all the wine he has been drinking. “You already tried that. Look how it turned out” I turned to White who is still visibly shaken. “Tell my wife to meet me at the garage.” He leaves, too stunned to speak. “I will raise hell on you, and you will wish you stayed dead” Zion threatens. “I look forward to that” I respond, walking away to the place where I first met my wife.Nate It was supposed to be quick, a little peck on the lips to spite Zion. But then, my lips touched hers, and my restraint snapped hard. I felt anger that Zion and her father had her in their team, and that she tasted so good. Better than I imagined, she tasted like sweet wine, sweet intoxicating wine. I told myself to stop, to let her go, then my teeth scraped against her upper lip, and she let out a small moan, all the reins of restraint I held onto tightly finally snapping. Her mouth opened, inviting me in, and our tongues touched, twisting and sucking hard on each other. We were both fighting for control, nobody willing to give it up. She let out a small moan again, and like a crazed man, I drew her closer, my hands holding her to me tightly as I dug my fingers into her waist, caressing her small frame. It must be because I’ve not kissed a woman for so long. That is the excuse I tell myself as I felt my bulge painfully increasing. I wanted her to touch me, on my
Simone Five words. That’s all he has said to me this evening, just five words. I don’t even know why I feel angry, it’s not like we care about each other. But whether or not we are just pretending, a wife deserves to know where her husband has been for an entire week. “It’s been two weeks” father noted as he stood close to me. “I know. I’m working on something” I said, trying to keep my tone flat. “You don’t have the luxury of time” he says.“You hate her that much?” I finally mustered the courage to ask as I looked up at him, He didn’t respond, just looked at me, his eyes warning me to restrain whatever I had to say. I finally looked away, wiping the little tear away, before it drops and ruins my makeup. We stood in silence for a long minute, one that felt like torture before I asked. “What happened to Alex?” “What?” Father finally gave a reaction. His face was shocked, and I could see his mind working fast for a response, a lie. “Why are you suddenly interested in him? W
Nate All week I had felt an ache in my chest, one that I had refused to acknowledge. At intervals, it would come up, making my heart beat fast. It came up in the meeting with Todd, the young man who had loosened the lights that almost maimed or killed me. As he talked about all he gathered, and handed me a piece of paper containing one single name, Alex Camden. I didn’t know what to do with the name, but the name had always come up in a conversation between White and Zion. Todd had heard it countless times and the last conversation was a heated argument about tracking him down. Who was Alex? Why did they talk about him in hushed tones? And why was it important they find him? I had tried to find him but my sources fell short, so instead, I had travelled to take care of my overseas trading investments. The investors kept talking, pulling out sales record and comparing different markets, but I wasn’t focused. And I felt that ache in my chest again as her text had come, aski
Simone “That’s so pretty” Helen smiled at me, as I continued crocheting part of gramps birthday gift. “Is it?” I asked, raising the front part of the pillow case I was making up for her to see. “It is” she nodded. The blue yarns glistened under the sun and as I saw the little green design I had inserted at the edge, my heart did a little backflip. I had no idea why I had bought green yarns. But as I saw them now, I knew why. It was because they reminded me of a pair of green eyes, that always stare at me intensely, making me question my choices. “I’m sure gramps will love it” Helen said. I tilted my head over, considering if I should ask the question already at the tip of my tongue. I did anyway. “Do you know where he is?” She stared at me a second too long, before she answered. “On a business trip” “Ah” I quipped. Things have not been the same since I found out he had Gary tail me. We never texted and he was barely home. I texted him once, he never r
Simone “Do you really hate me?” His voice was raw, as if broken, and his words came out like a plea, as if he didn’t want me to hate him. But how could I not hate him? When he was the reason I started to doubt myself and question my choices. How could I not when he had always been mean to me? I remember the fear that gripped me when Chloe called that Father was sending mother away. It was always his way of threat to keep me in check. He knows my mother will lose it if she is away from him, and it was his weapon to use me his as he likes. Like a maniac, I had run to him, begging him, promising that I would do anything, so he doesn’t send her away. Then, he threw the file at me, the one that had ruined our family. This was all Nate’s doing, he had fed on father’s greed. I was angry, but within me, I knew that anger wasn’t directed at Nate. He saw an opportunity and used it. I was angry that my father had let his greed control him and now I have to pay for it. With
Nate “You can’t do this to me” her voice was straining, one hand clenched at her side as she held her phone with the other. I stood at her door which I had barely opened but because of how focused she was on her call, she didn’t notice me. “Father please” she begged, desperation seeping into her voice. “I’ve done everything you’ve asked so far” I stood still, my mind working fast. What could he possibly be holding over her to make her beg this much. The Simone I’ve come to know was prideful and would never beg, even if it meant she had to crawl on her knees. I finished my breakfast but she wasn’t downstairs yet. What could have possibly gone wrong? I heard her before I saw her. She was dressed, her three piece navy blue suit a clear representation of that pride she wears so elegantly. Her makeup was slightly done, and I felt my heart twist at how beautiful she looked. I wanted to taste her lipstick, the peach color fitting her fair skin perfectly.
Simone My eyes fluttered open and the light almost blinded me. Where am I? Am I married already? Is this Zion’s place? The green eyed man. “Oh my God! I’ve been kidnapped”. I quickly checked my hands but they weren’t tied. I need to escape. “You’re awake. Good” someone said. I turned aro
Simone I stared down at my wedding gown, admiring the beautiful flowers on it. Father made sure I got the best dressmaker to design my wedding dress. It disgusted me. “It’s not so bad you know” my sister chimed from where she sat at my bed. “Easy for you to say, you are not the one getting
Nate “Hey Nate. Zion says to rot in hell” My chest tightened as I bled, staggering on the road. I couldn’t breathe..the knife still plunged deeply into my chest. “Yo man” I heard someone say as he tapped the person next to him. “We need to get out of here” the person says. “Hell no.
SimoneThe heels of my shoes dug into the floor as I ran across Gramps garden heading to the main house. My legs hurt so much from running but I didn’t stop myself.“Your husband needs you” what shape could he possibly be in that he needs me. A sudden wave of guilt filled me up again, but I quickl
