Chapter Four

“Wh_what are you doing here?” I stood up from the bed. My legs went weak, almost making me slump. The nurse quickly rushed to me, her hand wrapping around my shoulder.

“You were about to abort my baby?” Elijah growled, the anger written clearly on his face.

“I_ I wasn't… I was about…”I didn't know why I was stuttering, but I couldn't just find the right words to say.

“Pick up your bag. We're leaving”, he said, before leaving me in the room to dress up.

I walked out of the exam room, my eyes scanning the reception area. I saw him standing close to the door, his hands in his pockets. He looked angry but yet handsome…just like he did that night. I walked over to him, my head cleared.

“How did you know I was here?” I asked, my eyes struggled to look at his dark ones.

“That's not the issue. You're not getting rid of this pregnancy” he glared at him, his voice cold.

I hated how he talked to me, I hated how he looked at me…like that night meant nothing to him. Did he not get haunted by the memory of me screaming his name in pleasure at him like I did? Or did his skin not burn for my touch or yearn for my love …because I did.

“You have no right to tell me what to do with this baby, Elijah. I will do whatever I choose, and you won't stand in my way.”

His eyes burned with intense anger, but I didn't let it deter me. I wouldn't let him control me like a fu**ing puppet.

He strolled towards me. “You move one step towards that room and I swear you'll regret the day you came into this world”. His nose flared. Why was he so angry?

“I_ I'm getting an abortion”. I could already feel my resolve slipping away. He has to be dominant about everything, doesn't he?

“No you're not!” he spat back.

“Why are you suddenly against it?! Weren't you the one who sent your wh*re to throw me out of your office? You didn't even give me a chance to speak to you. You fu**ing left like I was just another wh*re under your rug, Elijah” I seethed, my own anger coming to the surface. “You fu**ing left me alone when I needed you!”

“I didn't push you out. I told her to bring you in, but you were too blinded by your own jealousy to notice that she was lying to you”, he argued back.

I wanted to break something so badly. How did he even know all this?

“You're not getting rid of this child, Maya. We're keeping the baby”

“I_ I can't do that. I'm not capable of being a mother to this child alone, Elijah”

“Who said you would be alone?” He said, staring at mine intensely. I knew he could feel it…that tension. But it was more than just sexual tension this time.

“What do you mean?” I said, my voice as low as a whisper.

“You're getting married to me?”

“What?”

“Yes. I won't let you take care of the child alone. We will bring him up together, you and I as a couple.”

“Just like that?” I asked in shock.

“Yes” he confirmed.

“But I don't even know you. You don't know me either!” I said. My heart beat wildly against my chest.

“We can get to know each other after marriage”

“I don't know, Elijah. Getting married is a big step…even for us”,I said. I mean, it was just a one-night stand three weeks ago, yesterday I found out I was pregnant with his child. Now he wants to get married. ”I don't think we're ready for that” I continued.

His expression turned serious immediately. “We don't have a choice. We have to get married for the sake of the child”

Suddenly I felt frustrated. He wasn't even listening to me. “This is not fair. You can't just dictate to me”

“I'm not dictating. I'm only protecting you. You need protection, don't you?”

I felt a jolt of surprise take over me. “How do you know I need protection? What are you talking about?”

His expression turned grim immediately. “ I have my ways of finding out things, Maya. You didn't think I would just offer you a marriage without knowing who you truly are”, he gave me a look.

I backed away from him. The way he looked at me suggested he knew more than what I thought he knew. A wave of skepticism washed over me.

“Who are you, Elijah?", Fear immediately washed over me. Was he part of the men that burst into my house and pointed a gun at my head. He didn't look like any of them. I would have recognized him.

Maybe he was their leader?

“You don't have to be scared. I know what you're thinking. I'm not one of them” he said, his gaze softened.

“Then who are you?” I asked, the fear evident in my voice.

“You just have to trust me, Maya. I'm at your side” he said in a soothing voice, but I couldn't fall for it. I wouldn't fall for him. But when I looked at him, I could see the sincerity in his eyes.

“No, no, I can't believe you. I don't trust you”.

He came closer, his hands quickly grabbing my arms. “Hey! Look at me!” I didn't. I continued to struggle to be free from him. They were here. They had finally found me.

“Maya!” he shouted, his voice finally bringing me back to my senses. I looked up at him, my vision blurred by tears. “You're safe here. I promise I'm not one of them. I won't let anyone get their hands on you, okay?” He said, his eyes telling me he was waiting for my answer.

“Y_yes” I answered.

“You're mine alone” he looked at me again.

“Yes” I answered more boldly this time. I had wanted to be his from the first day he touched me.

“We're getting married…today” his eyes watched mine, not asking for validation, but he wanted his instructions to be clear.

“Okay”

We walked out of the hospital, hand in hand. I looked up at him, a look of admiration spread across my face. Maybe Elijah was my prince charming.

Suddenly, his phone went off, revealing the caller ID. The wallpaper on his phone made me suddenly stop.

Lizzy. I could recognize her face any time. I looked up at him, but he was already looking down at me, a worried look on his face.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

I looked down at his phone, but the picture was no longer there. It has been replaced by a graphic wallpaper.

It couldn't be. Lizzy was dead. I could not keep allowing her to affect me even after her death. Elijah has nothing to do with Lizzy Volkov.

Elijah's pov“Elijah, there's something you really need to see.” I hear Vikram speak into the phone, his voice tinged with a slight annoyance. My jaw twitch, wondering what next he had found about Maya.Vikram is my personal investigator who had showed me that Maya was the woman who had killed my mother three years ago, and ran away like nothing happened.I didn't just take his words for it. Her innocent face, they didn't look like someone's that would pull a trigger in someone's head, much less someone they had worked for, for over five years. And so I ordered Vikram to redo his investigation again and again, and to find more proof. And at the end of the day, all evidence pointed to her. She didn't just kill my mother, Maya stole her assets, ran away, thinking no one was watching her.I vowed to myself to make her pay for everything she did to my mum. “Come to the office,” I responded back into the phone, my voice gruff around its edges.Lizzy Volkov, was my biological mother, and t

"Why do you keep staring at me that way? You think I'll confess to a crime I didn't commit if you stare hard enough?” I asked coldly, my body launched lazily on the sofa, eyes distant. My voice feels too sore like I haven't talked for the part three months, and that's not a complete exaggeration. I've been literally mute for the past two weeks since Elijah brought me back home from the hospital.I could feel my life slipping away day by day, there was no essence for living anymore, and I hated how a night of pasion made me into this. I should have known better…trusting a man.Elijah stares at me, his expression unreadable. Gray eyes like steel with an intensity locked on me, too attentive, like he was trying to read what was running through my head. “You haven't touched your food.” He pushed the plate of pasta to me, but I turn my head away from it.“Talk to me, Maya.”That one word from his lips feels like a slap. It used to send thrills down my back, but now it only opened old wound

Light sears into my eyes, a jagged blade cutting through the dark. I’m nowhere, just a void, my body is a lead weight, and my limbs like stone. A beep stabs the silence, rhythmic, close, dragging me up from nothing. Something pinches my arm, sharp, tugging. My throat’s is suddenly ash, my head a fog of half-formed shadows. Where am I?, I ask myself. The air’s wrong—sharp, cold, like metal and bleach. A hum buzzes, low, under the beep, and I blink, slow, the world a smear of white and gray.“Mrs. Tyler?” A voice, brisk, female, slices through. “Can you hear me?” I try to focus, but my eyes are heavy, the shape of her blurring—a woman, white coat, clipboard clicking. My name—Tyler—lands like a stone, familiar but distant, like it’s someone else’s. I can’t speak, my tongue a dead thing, so I just stare, my chest tight with something I can’t name.Water…“You’re in the hospital,” she says, nurse, her face sharpening, too bright for this cold place. “You’ve been in coma, a few days. The VIP room was a shithole- it looked liked it had been used too many times by scumbags and dirty whores. But it would be enough for this night. He just needed to let off some steam. The door slammed shut as he pushed Tasha _or whatever she had called her name to be, against the door. A moan escaped from her lip as his lips found her sensitive bud underneath her flimsy clothing.“F*ck…please don't stop,” she moaned out. Trisha grabbed his head, smashing her lips against his, as his hands found the waist band of her panties. Already soaked with her juices. She clawed at his shirt, shredding it off him like a starving animal hungry for its prey. Her dress was a scrap of cheap red silk, unlike his expensive own. It was too tight, so he yanked it up, baring her half naked body to him. His hands grabbed her tits, pressing her harder to the door. “You want this, don't you?” He growled as his hands continued to rub on her nipples, eliciting a soft moan from her. She nodded, unable to spit

My mum smiled at me as she drew near.“Maya, you're finally here,” she said immediately she came closer, engulfing me into a warm hug. Then I released myself from her embrace.“Where's this, mum? Why-why are you here…you're dead.” As soon as the words left my mouth, reality struck me hard in the face.If my mum was here with me, it only meant one thing.I am not a living being anymore.“Maya, you shouldn't be here. Go back home,” my mum said as she looked at me softly. Home?I realized that as I stood in this space, there was no pain, no betrayal…no Elijah.I wanted to stay here, in this place where there wa
