Harriet’s POV
The second day after going back to the past has arrived.
How and why I returned back, and how long it will last, the answers to this questions remain mystery as of now.
I was given the second life to live and the time is so short, I should not waste it by doubting and hesitating.
So I moved up from my bed, take a shower and prepared clothes that I will wear.
As I opened my cabinet, I saw few beautiful dresses. I wore two of those yesterday and there are few choices left.
‘I think I need to buy new dresses.’
I suddenly wondered how much money I have in my bank account at this time. Even if I have enough money to buy dresses before, I did not buy. It was because I feared if a time when I’ll be kicked out of the house and I need money to feed myself.
So aside from avoiding wearing dresses and dolling because Madell told me to, I just saved all of my wealth in my bank account.
Now, there’s no reason to feel anxious about money.
I chose the white dress.
The chairman bought this for me when we we to Chile for business trip. I was so excited to wear this, but could not because Madell will throw a fit once she saw this again. So I kept it hidden.
I wore the white dress and stood before the mirror. I put a light make-up to match my dress, and when I am ready, I went out of my room.
I planned of meeting the chairman before going to the company.
This will be the first day I will work as Zion’s secretary.
The meeting yesterday is about chairman’s Sorren retirement from his position in the Fantell Architecture Firm. And so he won’t be coming to the company from today onwards.
‘This is really different from the past.’
On my way to the chairman’s office inside the mansion, I met one of the member of Fabroa family. It is the chairman’s son and Zion’s father, Finn Fabroa.
Both of us stopped from walking when we saw each other.
Standing in front of him, I bowed my head a little to show some respect, even if I don’t want too. As of now, I don’t have a choice.
As I looked at the ground, I remembered the sin of this man.[“She is the only one who went in and out of my father’s room. Harriet killed my dad! She killed him for money!”]
Sir Finn testified to my murder case because and initiated that I killed the chairman. He gave wrong testimonies to the authority which pointed me as the real killer and that’s why I was given a death sentence as my penalty.
His lies, therefore, is an evidence that he had something to do with grandpa’s Sorren death.
“Why? Is it because the chairman does not want to give his company to his son?’
Sir Finn moved forward. I thought our encounter for today will be peaceful, given that he kept his mouth shut before walking. However, that was just a silly hope of mine.
“Aside from being the chairman’s favorite,” he said then stopped his pace. “Now, you are going to work as my son’s secretary.”
I tilted my head to look at him. Sir Finn was talking without looking back at me, as if staring at my face will disgust him.
“You are dreaming so high, Harriet. However, you will never be the wife of the next owner of Fantell Firm. If you are thinking that you can get Zion, don’t ever dream.”
Bit by bit, he looked back, observing me from head to toe.
“My son will marry someone who’s on the same level. And she isn’t you.”
He did not give me the chance to answer because he already walked away.
‘I am not the woman for Zion?’
I chuckled sarcastically.
I would definitely make sir Finn eat his own words, the moment he found out that I am actually the daughter of a billionaire.
‘Just wait and see.’
I tried to ignore these heavy feelings inside my heart and walked. But as I remembered what happened last night, my feet stopped again.
[“I don’t love you anymore.”]
I clamped my fingers into white-knuckled vise-grips as I remembered the lie that I said last night.
I hate Zion.
I hate him for abandoning me and for believing that I killed his grandfather.
But even if I knew what’s the right thing to do, which is to forget him, there is still a part in my heart that drowning into a depth of pain.
‘Is dying not enough for me to stop this foolishness?’ I asked myself.
Even so, my decision to unlove Zion will never change. Maybe, lying that I don’t love him anymore is the first step.
‘I can do it. I can remove my feelings for him.’
After reminding of myself about what things to do and not, I continued walking on the way to the chairman’s office.
As soon as I walked inside, I opened my lips and about to greet the chairman. But I saw him talking over the phone, and so I stayed at the side, waiting for him to finish.
“Alright. I will send someone to check it,” the chairman said.
The corner of my lips soared up as I stared at his back.
‘Grandpa Sorren is really alive,’ another thought that made me slight teary.
If not because of him, I won’t hesitate to leave this house the moment I came back to the past.
“Okay, okay. I’ll count you for that,” he bid last before dropping the call and looking back at me. “Harriet!” he greeted then stood up.
“Good morning, chairman.”
“You are prettier than the morning,” he complimented. He looked at me from head to toe and added, “Secretary Harriet is also beautiful today.”
“Thank you so much,” I replied. “I actually came here to see you before I…”
“I’m sorry, Harriet,” he said, cutting my words.
“Yes?”
“I got a call from our branch in New York. We need to do some quality check for Heydiko project. I informed them that I will send someone to check it personally.”
Heydiko project.
As far as I can remember, Heydiko is a big project that fell into a huge crisis because of sir Finn’s fault.
‘So it is this time.’
“I would like for Harriet to go there and check it.”
“Yes?!” I gasped, quite shocked.
Didn’t the chairman send sir Finn to that project in the original project? Why did grandpa Sorren think of sending me instead?
‘I can’t be away for too long because I had to watch Reese and prevent her meeting with my real father.’
“B-But, isn’t today my first day working as Zion’s secretary?” I made an excuse.
Sitting on the chair, the chairman gave me a bitter sweet smile.
“Did you already forget the condition you told me yesterday?”
The condition I asked?
Of course not.
“In exchange of working under Zion, you asked me to bring Cassius back.”
“...”
“But when I asked you why, you could not tell me the reason.”
I bowed my head and bit my lips.
The real reason why I wanted Cassius to come back is to have someone by my side. I need a trustful person who will help me stop the chairman’s death in the future.
I cannot say that reason to grandpa Sorren.
“I will be honest with you, Harriet,” he said in the midst of heavy silent. “It is impossible for Cassius to come back, even if I wanted him too.”
I saw him shook his head while wearing a sad smile.
“That kid won’t like to come back.”
I can feel his longing towards the grandchild whom he did not see for a long time.
Just what is really the reason why Cassius stayed away from his family?
“So if you really want him to come back,” the chairman said, looking back at me. “Go to New York.”
My already round eyes went even rounder.
“Go to my grandchild, and try to convince him to come home.”
Cassius Fabroa. In the age of 26, Cassius graduated in architecture from Harvard university. Due to his talents and intellect, many companies offered him opportunities. But Cassius accepted none. They said he’s wasting his life for declining every blessings he encountered. But unknown to many, Cassius actually does not need to work so hard in order to feed himself. An orphan who’s living alone in New York, that’s what everyone, who knows him, think of the young man. About his real background? No one knows. They just see him as a weird guy who is spending all of his time looking around the city and sketching big buildings. They pitied him, thinking he has no goal in life. In Cassius simple way of living, no one will think that he is actually the grandson of a billionaire, Sorren Fabroa, the owner of Fantell Architecture Firm.“Do you still suffering from that dream again?” the doctor asked Cassius. From the white glossy floor, Cassius tended his eyes to his doctor. The light from the s
A throbbing headache welcomed Zion in the morning when he woke up. Sitting up on the bed, he groaned, “Ahhh~ D*mn it.” He knew his alcohol limit, so he rarely gets drunk because he will stop drinking before that happens. However, made a mistake last night for drinking too much. After massaging his pulsating forehead, he looked at the blank space. ‘What happened last night?’ Zion recalled the events bit by bit inside his head; how did get home and who helped him. Soon, he shut his eyes and roughly washed his face with his dry palms. “Oh sh*t,” he cursed with a growl. In a flash, Zion remembered everything that happened, and he felt so embarrassed, he wanted to jump in a hole and stayed there for long days. He recalled not calling Harriet to pick him up from the bar, but also, he tried to kiss her. Not only that, he even told her: [“Why did you do that? You like me, right? Why are you suddenly pushing me away? You love me.”] Zion buried his head onto his palms even more, thin
My second day in New York…“These are the companies where we will get the materials for the Heydiko project,” the contractor said as he gave me the list.I accepted the documents and checked each of the company which will supply the materials.‘As expected…’ “I will check it thoroughly and inform this to the chairman. I’ll get back to you tomorrow.”“Okay, ma’am.”With the important documents, I went back to the hotel I’m staying at. I got so tired that I just collapsed on the bed with a grunt and then stared at the ceiling. It is just my second day in this foreign country, but this weak body of mine feels so tired.Tilting my head, I looked at the document on the table beside the bed.In the original future, sir Finn made a mistake during the Heydiko project and that’s why the company had to deal fix the results. We bought the materials from J&F company before a scandal about the organization arise in the public. The project was forced to stop and because of this, many lost their job
During my 18th birthday, the chairman said that he wanted to give me a grand party. Although I am adopted child whose name does not registered to the family, grandpa Sorren sees me as his own granddaughter. I told grandpa that I don’t need a grand part anymore. Because I was so sure that his real granddaughter, Madell will make a mess once she heard about this. But the chairman insisted. The preparation for the party took a bit long. The tailor finished the dress that I will wear and they already invited the guest. Only few people will attend the party; the Fabroa family, some of their relatives, chairman’s friends, my classmates and teacher from school, and Zion’s friends. I was so excited that time. Even if that isn’t my real birth date, I am so excited to celebrate my birthday with the people will be my new family. Two days before the celebration, Madell went to me and said that there will be changes in the party’s theme. “Hey. Whose Disney character will you portray?” she ask
If Harriet looks like someone who’s losing her mind right now, she doesn’t care anymore. Right at this moment, she only have one goal: to drive the people out of the mall as soon as possible. She ran, passing through the crowd as if a desperate escapee who was getting chased by a monster. The beast who’s chasing after her, it is the time itself.Every ticking of the clock, the lives of many would come closer to death. Not long after, Harriet arrived at the mall’s entrance where there are two security guards.Harriet was catching her breath so hard. She had to lean her hands on her weak knees and gulped few times.Cassius, who was on her tail, also arrived at the place. He looked at the guards, who’s looking at Harriet and waiting for her to say what she needs.“Hey miss, are you alright?” one asked.Harriet raised her hand, shaking her head while catching her breath.“Calm down, miss,” the second one said. “Calm down first before speaking. Not wanting to waste more time, Harriet gulpe
Cassius went to sleep while thinking about Harriet, and he woke up, still having her in his mind.At first, Cassius thought Harriet has ill intention after she said that the chairman wanted Cassius to go back home.He knows that his grandfather won’t force him to come back. Sorren is aware how painful for his grandson, Cassius, to remember the past. Therefore, the old man won’t possibly force him to fly back home.So why would a mere secretary desires to have convince the second grandson of the chairman to go back?Is it because she’s blinded from power, so she wanted to use Cassius so that she can get enough cognition when he became the heir?Cassius thought it is Harriet’s intention. But his perceptions changed after hearing what Harriet said last night.[“Someone will kill your grandfather. I am not sure who, but it will happen. So I can’t trust anyone and only think of you. So Cassius. Please come back with me.”]His breathing stopped for a second when he heard about the news. The
Harriet’s POV I felt pain all over my body. “Hmmm,” a groaned left my throat. With all my my might, I forced my eyes to opened. Darkness. I saw nothing but pitch of darkness around. I turned my head around with every deep breath I take, as I feel suffocated in a dusty place. ‘Where am I? What happened?’ I shut my eyes tightly, although another darkness awaits me if I do. Seeing nothing, I tried to calm down and recall my situation. ‘The building collapsed. I went back inside to get the document.’ The document! Where is it?! ‘Wait. I should not only think about the documents.’ “Cassius,” I mumbled. That’s right. I saw him came back inside. Before the whole building collapsed, Cassius pulled me into his arms and… ‘Oh no. What if… What if something happened to him?’ I saved a lot of people from death. I did. But because of me, someone like Cassius, who supposedly not here, got in danger. “Cassius!” I called in the middle of the dark. It is my fault. If only I did
Cassius saw waterfall cascading over embankment. It was a fast-rising flood between house, deceptively slight at first, tugging trippingly at the feet and ankles, but quickly sucking and battering at legs, chest and shoulder. The color of his world turned brown, gray, black and white. It did not resemble in the least of the wide vast blue ocean he held dearly in his head. There are not blue-green wave cresting elegantly in the tentacles foam in the seashore, but only a massive water; dark, strange, violent without kindness, a cruel thing coming onto the land like a monster, picking its feet and charging at everyone with a roar in its throat. He could hear the disturbing sounds of crunch of squeal of wood, concrete, metal and tilled, as if a huge black of mountain water came all at once and destroyed everything; like solid gain compressor pulverizing the neighborhoods, villages and town. There was this strange sound, difficult to describe. It wasn’t the sound of the sea which will ma
