ELARA’S POV

“Sir, you can’t be here!”

Two security guards rushed forward, arms outstretched, trying to stop Leon from crossing the hallway. He pushed past one of them.

“I said I need to see her!” His voice cracked.

The tension in the hospital air tightened around us.

“What’s going on here?” Nate appeared from the admin desk, brows furrowed. “Why are you holding him?”

“He was trying to force his way past—”

“He’s with us,” Nate cut in coolly. “He’s her… guardian.”

The guards hesitated. “Oh… uh… our apologies, sir.” They backed off.

Leon didn’t even glance at them. He turned to Nate, red-eyed, out of breath, wrecked. “Nathaniel. What happened to her? She said she went out alone. I told her not to not without her security. And now she’s been shot? Where is she? What did the doctors say—?”

“How did you know she was here?” Nate’s eyes narrowed. Oh please tell me he’s not about to start interrogating him right now?

“Joan called me,” he replied. “What’s going on with her? Is she going to be

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    206: YOU HAVE ME

ELARA’S POV Camille snorts. “If you were more like Leon, maybe you’d actually get a chance. Then I wouldn’t be around to ruin anything for you.” “Please,” Nate scoffs. “I’d never be like that actor of yours.” “Actor?” I ask, glancing up from Camille’s bleeding shoulder. Nate tucks his phone into his pocket with a dramatic sigh. “Yes. That Leon guy gets more fictional and suspicious by the day. His moves are absurd.” “You’re just jealous,” Camille hisses, leaning into me like she didn’t just get shot twenty minutes ago. My arm is numb from keeping pressure on the scarf, which is now soaked through. “Last time I got hit,” Camille says casually, “Leon commissioned a garden shaped like my face. Full aerial view. Even had blush-toned peonies for my cheeks.” I blink. “Wait…what?” “Yeah. Took two weeks. Drones flew overhead spelling ‘Get well, my war goddess.’ He cried in the middle of a lavender maze while I got stitched up.” I don’t know if I’m horrified or deeply impre

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    205:

ELARAS POV Before I can process what happened, Nate shoves me under the table. A split second later, chaos erupts. Screams. Glass breaking. A stampede of heels and chairs scraping across marble. “Fucking son of a bitch.” Camille’s voice cuts through the air. She’s gritting her teeth, hand pressed to her shoulder, blood already staining the sleek lines of her dress. My heart hammers. I shove Nate’s arm off and scramble out. “Camille!” I shout, my heels sliding against the polished floor. She’s trying to sit up, pale but composed. Nate’s guards are flooding the room now, weapons drawn, securing the exits. I don’t care. I push past all of them and drop to her side, kneeling next to the growing pool of red. “Oh my god Camille. Are you okay?” “I’m going to be,” she mutters, digging through her purse. She pulls out a silk scarf and presses it firmly to her shoulder. “It’s just a graze.” A graze? That’s not a graze. That’s blood. A lot of blood. Nate crouches beside us,

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    204: FRIENDS

NATE’S POV “That little bastard airing my business,” I muttered under my breath, glaring at Camille. “Oh, loudly,” she smirked. “But it’s not what you think, Natey. He’s just trying to affirm I’m not investing in a risky partner.” “Investing?” My brow rose. “The last time you and I did business, I was just a director.” “Oh, don’t play dumb with me, darling.” My jaw clenched. Darling? I didn’t even have to look to feel the switch in Elara’s energy. But I still looked. Yep. She heard that. Her lips parted slightly, whispering the word like it was poison. “Darling.” Shit. I needed to shut Camille down fast. There was nothing going on between us never was, never will be. She was a close business contact, yes. Someone I helped back when she was nearly killed by her own family. But this? This was a mess I didn’t plan for. “Jacob Hale already told me you’re a forty percent stakeholder in the new company,” Camille continued, smiling proudly. “So don’t even deny i

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    203: ARE YOU JEALOUS?

NATES POV The minute I walked back into the room after my call, Elara was no longer on the bed. She was standing by the window, her back turned to me, legs bare beneath the oversized shirt she was wearing. My shirt. For a second, I forgot how to breathe. I never thought I’d see a day like this again her in OUR space, in my clothes. In my life. I wished I could freeze the moment. Pretend this was normal. Pretend it will stay like this forever. Then she turned, catching me off guard. Her brows lifted. “What are you doing?” I looked away too quickly, then forced myself to meet her gaze again. The morning light hit the hazel of her eyes, igniting flecks of gold that tightened something deep in my chest. I swallowed the lump rising in my throat. What was I supposed to say? That I was just staring, not checking her out? Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Nate. “Uh—” I cleared my throat. “Were you…” “Get dressed,” I cut in before I could fumble it worse. “I want to take you s

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    202: ONE TIME THING

ELARA’S POVI woke up to warm breath brushing the edge of my cheek.Something or someone…. was too close.Way too close.I reacted on instinct, snapping upright with a gasp and shoving hard against the weight next to me. A body shifted under my hands, jolting with surprise, and then—“Ow shit, Elara!” a voice grunted. “It’s just me!”My eyes flew open.Nate.Not an intruder. Not a threat.Just Nate.Bare chested. Disheveled hair. Sleepy, heavy lidded eyes fixed on me. His lips were parted like he was mid-thought, and his face… way too close. He blinked, then grinned slowly, that familiar irritating smirk forming as he inched closer.“You were about to kiss me!” I accused, narrowing my eyes.He raised his hands in surrender. “I was trying to kiss your forehead, psycho,” he muttered, still grinning. “You looked peaceful. Beautiful. I couldn’t help it.”“Well, next time try helping it,” I hissed. But his eyes dropped slightly lower.I followed his gaze… and then froze.Oh.My arms flew t
